AIBU to create new thread in AIBU linking to threads in the feminist board people want to highlight?

Now feminism has disappeared from active, I thought it might be useful to start a meta thread on here where people can link to threads on feminism they wanted to draw to the wider attention.

Such as:

OP posts:

I don't mind either way. I just hide threads as I go along anyway without opening them.

SpiderwebHammock · 15/04/2018 10:02

I'm sympathetic, but YABU. Especially after the fabulous couple of articles in today's Sunday Times (note to self: must buy), going out of our way to sidestep a measure Mumsnet has put in place to take the heat out of the situation (which may indeed only be temporary) feels like it would be taking the piss and risk making it permanent.

Personally I think it's a good time to step back, even if just for a few days or so, take stock, and concentrate on #WTGLWGH. Post in other sections if appropriate by all means, but only if relevant.

No, I just don't think the any board should be hidden from active.

Threads about TRA can be put up for discussion on any board, not just the feminist boards. But a lot do go on the feminist board, because it does effect women.

TrollHunterGeneral · 15/04/2018 10:12

whileStatement

If you do know. Then what's your problem?

It's up to you what you do with what you have read. If you don't care or have apparently unpeaked, that's up to you. Join in the debate, ignore the debate, don't open threads relating to it. Whatever floats your boat.

But why denie others of finding out about the debate? Then they can also make their own minds up too.

WhoWants2Know · 15/04/2018 10:13

I can't believe I didn't realise that they had been removed from active. Won't that just end with people posting in Chat or AIBU instead?

TrollHunterGeneral · 15/04/2018 10:23

As the AIBU was whether to link to feminist board discussions. Here's one

TheyMostlyComeOutAtNightMostly · 15/04/2018 10:27

I think that a general move to put trans threads on AIBU etc (either directly or via link threads) would put MN at existential risk.

Starting threads about Ulster Rugby or the new Gender Pay Gap findings on In The News however should be unproblematic.

Beyond11cisRetinol · 15/04/2018 10:28

This is an interesting (if kinda depressing) thread that I saw...

YABU

Catspaws · 15/04/2018 10:30

YABU. We aren't idiots who don't know how to navigate to feminism Hmm You just want more traffic for other threads, which isn't what AIBU is for.

Beyond11cisRetinol · 15/04/2018 10:30

(Also purposely not linking trans threads. There are plenty of non-trans feminism threads to share here)

Beyond11cisRetinol · 15/04/2018 10:31

(Though it's kinda pointless as people are already only talking about trans-related threads)

MeetTheNewAccountSameAsTheOld · 15/04/2018 10:35

Yes, you are being unreasonable.

Mumsnet pulled the Feminism Chat board from Active for a very good reason.

If you choose to try and circumvent their decision you back them into a corner where the only choice left is to close down the board.

But it's your choice.

Let your own actions judge whether the board stays up or not.

TerranceandPhilip · 15/04/2018 10:35

Ffs. If you don't want to see a topic, just hide it. Feminism chat disappearing from Active is awful

FFS if you do want to see a topic just search for it. How much harder is it to type "mumsnet feminism" into the search bar then it is "mumsnet active?" Feminism chat disappearing from active is what MNHQ have decided. Don't like it? Feel free not to use MN. It's not a human right.

Belphegor · 15/04/2018 10:35

while so why not hide the topic then? I don't get it. I've managed to hide the pregnancy and baby names topics.

I also wish I could hide the billions of "how often do you wash your sheets" type threads but that's another story.

Pratchet · 15/04/2018 10:36

Agree it's awful and I hope MN quietly change their mind. There is no trans hate. The fact that so many threads are about trans is a pretty good indicator of how important this is to women's rights.

R0wantrees · 15/04/2018 10:37

They're not 'trans issues' or motivated by being 'anti-trans'... believing, perceiving or even (by some) deliberately framing all discussion in this way is how fundamental issues which affect us all have been contained and put beyond debate.

Pratchet · 15/04/2018 10:38

Terrance: women may not know that a particular issue is a feminist issue. They see it in FWR and think, yes, that chimes with me - i really am being taken advantage of/discriminated against etc.

PreemptiveFartSquats · 15/04/2018 10:39

Could someone please explain what reason MNHQ gave for pulling the Feminism Chat board from active?

LassWiADelicateAir · 15/04/2018 10:40

YABU. We aren't idiots who don't know how to navigate to feminism

I am a lone voice on FWR saying this. I post a lot on FWR. MN has a list of subjects- pick what you are interested in. I don't understand why posters need to be spoon fed and can't find FWR if it doesn't appear in "Active".

The reason MNHQ did this is perfectly clear yet there are posters dramatising on FWR that MNHQ are shutting women down / want women to go back to the kitchen.

Aridane · 15/04/2018 10:40

This would b the ultimate TAAT(s)

Aridane · 15/04/2018 10:41

Why is Feminism no longer in Active?

hazeyjane · 15/04/2018 10:41

I suppose.

I assumed most people clicked on active convos and used the customise to opt in and out of topics that they don't want to see (which is the point of customise, surely). A lazy approach maybe, but I go to Mumsnet to sit and listen in to conversations that interest me (hence the above approach), and that won't happen if those conversations happen in another room.

I know that not having Special Needs coming up, means I miss lots of posts, because I have to actively search for the topic, so it seems a shame for the same to happen to Feminism as well.

IWantMyHatBack · 15/04/2018 10:43

Could someone please explain what reason MNHQ gave for pulling the Feminism Chat board from active?

Yes, I'd like to know the reason too
