Aibu to think Mumsnet has issues with black women

Just that really, I’ve read really horrible comments about Meghan Markle, Alexandra Burke, Serena Williams talented and hardworking individuals who seem to offend some Mumsnetters simply by being beautiful and successful.
I’m not surprised as happens in RL but I guess it’s disappointing as Mumsnet touts itself as a more educated network than netmums

This thread feels deliberately goady and as a black woman I'm reporting it.

Firstly, why are you called GhanaGirl when you claim to be of caribbean descent? Your story doesn't check out.

Secondly, you've deliberately picked examples where there isn't any racism. Megan Markle gets about the same amount of abuse as Kate Middleton did, probably less. "Pushy?" KM was crucified on MN for years and in the press. Serena Williams is generally liked and Alexandra Burke is irrationally hated in the same MN seem to hate most tv personalities.

And finally, instead of just explaining yourself, you are just randomly egging people on, dismissing and insulting them. This seems like a very dailymail ish way to get people angry about "political correctness".

friendsromanscountrymen · 14/04/2018 19:49

Serena Williams is not beautiful.

findingmyfeet12 · 14/04/2018 19:52

Yes she is.

Discuss.

Catspaws · 14/04/2018 19:54

I think MN reflects society at large, in that a fair number of members do have issues with famous black women and interpret their confidence as aggression and arrogance. Lots of people, even if only subconsciously, think that any behaviour by black women other than absolutely meek modesty is them 'getting ideas above their station'.

It's the same impulse that makes people think black men are scarier and more aggressive than white men.

YANBU, but it's not just MN, it's people across Britain generally.

missbonita · 14/04/2018 20:07

Serena Williams is not beautiful.

What the fucking fuck? Do you have eyes? If so, get them tested.

GorgeousJaws · 14/04/2018 20:08

Serena Williams is not beautiful.

Confused According to you. I think she's attractive.

biscuitraider · 14/04/2018 20:12

I agree, attractive, not the same as beautiful though. We seem to call everyone beautiful these days.

Mightymucks · 14/04/2018 20:15

I think Venus Williams is beautiful because she has such a lovely face. Some people have something that shines from inside that makes them beautiful and she has that, Michelle Obama does too I think.

Mumto2two · 14/04/2018 20:20

Good grief..I haven't ever considered the William sister's attractiveness?! They are just good tennis players to me Confused

VladmirsPoutine · 14/04/2018 20:24

I am a pseudo Canadian/French dish inspired by a Russian President. In other words, that is a ridiculous point to make if your aim is to discredit the OP.

Xenia · 14/04/2018 20:27

yes, I am afraid I go by people's brains and career success not how they loko whether they are white brown or anything. I see them as successful people and looks are neither here nor there and it is dreadful if we go on bout people's looks all the time as it is so superficial.

OohMavis · 14/04/2018 20:29

Serena Williams is not beautiful.

And nobody cares what you think, least of all Serena Williams. Not that you'd ever say anything as unecessary and horrible as that to her face.

Bet you're fucking stunnin' though.

findingmyfeet12 · 14/04/2018 20:41

Are we really debating whether or not an individual person is beautiful? Hmm

friendsromanscountrymen · 14/04/2018 20:41

Why are you getting so angry about it?

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/04/2018 20:44

I am a pseudo Canadian/French dish inspired by a Russian President.

And I am not, nor have ever been, married to Sir Terry.

GorgeousJaws · 14/04/2018 20:44

No anger from me. Just hate the arrogance of stating opinion as fact.

Thegreatestshowwomen · 14/04/2018 21:05

Na not really but it shows shocking discrimination to people called Kate or Katie
Kate Middleton
Katie Price
Katie Hopkins

Bluntness100 · 14/04/2018 21:10

I’m allowed to be racist and how dare a woman of colour challenge me despite having no experience of racism

Reported again,

I don't know what your game is or why you keep accusing me of being racist. It's beyond mind boggling, and if you knew my family situation you'd know why,

You're on here to provoke, attack and goad, for whatever reason, I am deeply disappointed Mnhq have not dealt with this.

ClaraMumsnet · 14/04/2018 21:32

Hello all,

Discussions like this often get heated but we'd like to remind you that Mumsnet is here to make parents' lives easier. While we encourage healthy and robust discussion, we hope that everyone can respect each other and express their views without resorting to personal attacks.

Peace and love.

RunMummyRun68 · 14/04/2018 21:59

ghana excuse me, but you say 'i'm allowed to be racist'??

no you are not!

TitaniasCloset · 14/04/2018 21:59

Bluntness don't worry. I usually appreciate your posts. I appreciate, well, your bluntness.

This accusing everyone who disagrees with you of racism business that has crept up this year, I'm so sick of it. Especially when the accusers are highly educated and have money, the black kids I know are on the front lines of racism and they just aren't interested in chatting about this shit. And the black phds etc who choose to speak for the working classes have no fucking idea.

Racism has had a direct effect on my male children's futures. My daughters are very pretty and charming so slip by.

But no young poor black kids I know are sitting around waiting for racism to happen so they can accuse people. They are too bloody busy just trying to live, so as long as no one is an arsehole they just don't care.

I’m sorry but you should be letting posters know that racism has no place on Mumsnet rather than pandering to them
