Windrush Petition

Theworldisfullofidiots · 13/04/2018 23:29

Please would you consider signing this petition to provide amnesty for the windrush children who either lived most of their whole lives here or in some cases were born here but the home office has lost their paper work. The home office is a shambles but being successful in creating their hostile environment.
These people have lived their whole lives here because we asked their parents to work here. They had commonwealth status and then the rules were changed .

Signed

peach everyone that needs help is not a "victim". If you don't want to sign it then don't sign it, but you're making out as if you're better than anyone affected by this because you were able to assist your husband in getting his ducks in a row. He needed your help. The other people affected now need help, why are they less worthy?

Bagadverts · 14/04/2018 21:34

Sorry last post was wrong need many more signatures. I don't recall the publicity for the naturalisation.

pointythings · 14/04/2018 21:40

peach I wonder how many older native Brits don't have a passport because they have never wanted/needed to go abroad? People are human. They tend not to think about distant possibilities.

OK, so you pushed your DH into getting himself sorted. Brilliant. Lots of other people didn't get sorted. It smacks of a lack of compassion to say 'oh well, they made their bed' when they are in fact British citizens who should be treated decently. What this government is doing is not acceptable and alongside getting justice for Windrush, this is also about raising awareness of just how racist and xenophobic this government is.

Joolly2 · 14/04/2018 21:49

Signed.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 14/04/2018 21:50

This was my lovely thread. It was all going so nicely, mumsnet at its best - then classic drama triangle turned up - mumsnet is going to prove me wrong and I'm going to change my user name
Yes, people make mistakes and if we are all behaving like adults we can look at the bigger picture which is how the home office under the direction of this government behaves rather than blaming individuals.
Otherwise we are helping to prove the hostile environment true.

Signed and will share. Thank you for bringing this to our attention x

SianRunner · 14/04/2018 22:17

Shall we ignore the weird attempt to derail?

Fabulous response to the petition - now 94,930! Smile

Pebbles16 · 14/04/2018 22:27

Signed. I live near Windrush Square. Seems a fucking joke we can rename our streets and still live with such injustice.

Quote from a tweet : @danielfyork "We all used to sit there worrying about"what if the NF or BNP or UKIP ever got into power" then it's a Tory government who wants to start deporting black people #Windrush "

The appalling reality of the normalisation of this stuff.

OTOH, watch the signatures clicking over: heartening.
But make no mistake, we probably need 250,000 to make our Government's position untenable.

Share with your friends, share with your aunty, share with your MP, we can't let this huge , cruel, thing be done in our names.

Signed. This makes me embarrassed and ashamed to be British

DancingLedge · 14/04/2018 23:21

But be in nodoubt- we are fortunate to live in a country where the expression of everyone's opinion can change the Government s actions- we can do this.

700 to go!

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 15/04/2018 08:22

Only 101 to go! Yes people could have got passports, but those who haven't travelled are likely to be the poorest in society and might not have had the money or time to travel.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 15/04/2018 08:23

8 to get to 100000

100,007 as I type this.

TrickyD · 15/04/2018 08:24

Only 4 to get there! Signed as has DH

Theworldisfullofidiots · 15/04/2018 08:25

This petition needs to keep going. 100000 only gets it considered for debate. What's a realistic target to ensure its actually taken seriously?
