to stop people 'making memories'

DiplomaticDecorum · 13/04/2018 14:16

It's a pissy pants phrase - every time it's mentioned it makes me heave. Just stop, you sound ridiculous, every fucking minute of every fucking day is making fucking memories, it's how we as a species survive.

Bugger off and live in Disneyland with all of the little tweety birdies and pink bollocking princess fluffy crap. Start living life as an educated grown up, stop with the stupid filtered selfies, and stop being so bloody feeble. Hope this has made a new memory for you all. Now fuck off.

and my handsome man came home from work early with flowers and a gift certificate for the health spa for all my hard work as wife and mummy.

When I was small - about 6 or 7, my parents took me on a train ride on the Flying Scotsman. The same year, we went on a week's boat holiday on the Norfolk Broads. They particularly wanted me to experience those things, so I would always have lovely memories of them.

Can I remember a thing? Nope. Grin

Prettylovely · 13/04/2018 17:35

I suggest you make your friends list smaller if it bothers you that much...

lattewith3shotsplease · 13/04/2018 17:35

OP and all the rest that left your comments.

Thank you I am Grin like a Cheshire cat

MammaTJ · 13/04/2018 17:36

The only person I knew who did this had three kids, one not yet in school. She was #making memories all the time. I get it, as she passed away, age 32. All her DC have of her now is memories.

sockunicorn · 13/04/2018 17:37

@AlistairAppletonssexyscarf all the time, money and effort gone into our holidays and these are our memories! Grin

@KellyanneConway haha oh god! we had a similar thing when I misjudged the "guardians of the galaxy 2" film being a 12a and took my (younger) DC. cue months of them calling each other "trash pandas" and "ass wipes" while I said I had no idea where they picked it up to DH Blush

yamadori · 13/04/2018 17:41

I was just chatting to teen dd about this thread and she said "D'you remember that time when I was sick in Tesco's?"

Yes. Yes. I do.

DiplomaticDecorum · 13/04/2018 17:41

Bloody fab - knew I wasn't alone, surprised to find that facebook is blamed for it all, sadly it's plastered all over, and shhh, don't tell mnhq about this, but it was seeing it on here that tipped me over the edge.

Thanks to you all for your brilliant posts, it's bloody good - even the grumpy ones are funny, (probably won't take your advice of leaving facebook though Shock) - and it was going well until I saw the 'nomnom'. Bloody nomnoms can fuck right off too!!

I think it's easy for us parents to forget that often kids really just enjoy the small things, sweets ice cream, being able to play most of the day. Because for us of course all those things are pretty boring.

unicornandrainbows · 13/04/2018 17:47

Don't you all forget to #lovemyman.
This really grinds my gears😀

blackheartsgirl · 13/04/2018 17:47

I took 3 kids away a few years back, had a lovely time, did loads of stuff and borrowed my mums car for the trip. Guess what my son remembers best? Having to cut short our chester zoo trip because 3 year old dd3 was sick as a dog there and we had to take her back to the hotel, my son remmbers frantically opening a carrier bag for his sister to be sick in and having to hold it there whilst I frantically drove round looking for a bin whilst we were crying with laughter over his ewww ewwww reactions. Poor dd

That was our hash tag making memories moment!

KatieScarlett · 13/04/2018 17:47

I am so going to post a photo the next time we are all at each other's throats and caption it #famalamadingdong

MrsLemonadeBrain · 13/04/2018 17:47

I love this more than I love DP! Grin

TheOriginalEmu · 13/04/2018 17:49

Actually you've reminded me of when DS1 went to see the Red Hot Chilli Peppers when he was 17 or so, and came home to tell me it was the best day of his life. I was inwardly incensed - what about all those best days I had lovingly provided? Did that holiday on the beach count for nothing? No, that was all pissed away for a bit of Californication. So - yeah, you're right. Kids don't "make memories" the way we want them to

To be fair, Anthony Kiedis half naked singing under the bridge a few feet away from me was the best day of my life too. and that would include the birth of my kids #sorrynotsorry #memorybankedforfutureuse #im38 Grin

Drainedandconfused · 13/04/2018 17:50

My 2nd exH is always putting Down Syndrome memes and awareness posts on FB, he hasn’t seen our Down Syndrome son since February 2017. He’s a twat.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 13/04/2018 17:51

I think you need some decorative twigs and fairy lights in your life tbh.

haverhill · 13/04/2018 17:51

A friend took her DSS on a fabulous exotic holiday, a real trip of a lifetime. His favourite memory? The cooked breakfast in the Little Chef on the way to the airport.

Witchend · 13/04/2018 17:52

We didn't holiday much when I was small. We went to Great Yarmouth when I was 2yo and 5yo.

Aged 2yo I can remember going to Sooty and Sweep. I can not remember the show-but I can remember the outside of the theatre. It may have been called the Windmill or something as it had sails outside like a windmill.

Aged 5yo I have a few memories.
We got a hired car as the mini (original small one) was a teenie bit too small to take 5 of us, plus my gran, plus her dog, plus luggage for 300+ miles. I waved at a man in the car park that I thought was amazed by our incredibly impressive car. :D (it was very ordinary really but felt huge to us)
There were plastic fruit hanging outside the kitchen.
We tucked our skirts into our pants when paddling with gran in the sea. I thought this was a bit naughty. :D
I believe we went to the swimming pool (with slides and waves) and the fun fair, and all sorts of other things. I don't remember and my older sister remembers even less.

sockunicorn · 13/04/2018 17:52

I've just remembered another of my favourites!!

#boydonegood

So your THIRTY SEVEN year old husband has gone online and bought you a Kylie Jenner lip kit and a unicorn mug for your birthday and hes "done good" enough to get a hashtag status?! I must be doing something serious wrong in my household Grin

TheFirstMrsDV · 13/04/2018 17:53

AlistairAppletonssexyscarf
I am sorry for your loss Flowers
Its important to follow the family's lead and for some that means no trips, no handprints, no photos.
For others it means every day being about making and recording 'memories'.
Personally I wish I had someone to help me with this when DD was dying. I floundered, not knowing what to do or how to do it.
I wish I had more photographs and particularly videos.
I would have loved a fingerprint necklace. I am sad that I didn't have the help I was desperate for.
That said, we had excellent EOL care and I can't fault it, it was just not as developed as it is now.

WilburIsSomePig · 13/04/2018 17:53

OP, I completely agree on every level!

I met a friend at the park today. She's great, but fuck me she spent so much time arranging her kids into Boden poses so she could take a picture to post I nearly fell asleep on a bench.

Picture posted on facebook with a #makingmemories of these poor kids with fixed smiles as they posed for their 456th photo.

Iloveacurry · 13/04/2018 17:56

I eye-roll at this saying too. Especially when using multiple #sayingsomethingcrap ... yawn

JaneJeffer · 13/04/2018 17:57

Ah memories...
