People Looking In Lounge

headinhands · 12/04/2018 09:52

Public pavement runs past house lounge. No blinds or nets. People look in when they walk past. Would you put a sign up in the window saying 'please don't look in'?

People can see in here too . I care more about getting the maximum light in & visibility out than I do about anyone seeing in. If I didn’t I’d put white wooden blinds up so I could tilt them for max light/privacy.

I definitely wouldn’t be putting up a sign asking people to adjust their natural behaviour to suit me. That would be ridiculous.

Faintlinesquints · 12/04/2018 10:56

Definitely blinds or voile if it bothers you that much.

I’d be rather tempted to put a teeny tiny window cling saying ‘close enough nosy fucker’ Grin

Judydreamsofhorses · 12/04/2018 10:57

Our house is like this, although on a very quiet one-way street. We do have blinds, but only shut one set (bay window) because the cat likes to look out. People look in - particularly if the cat is sitting there - but I would rather that than lose all the light. I always look in people’s windows as I pass!

GrannyGrissle · 12/04/2018 10:57

I can't stand nets or the gloominess of blinds so have big plants or flowers on my windowsill and a window box outside. People aren't going to catch a glimpse of anything exciting going on at my house anyway Grin and it means i can have a bit of a nosy out the window too so win win.

ScienceIsTruth · 12/04/2018 10:59

If you don't like it, put nets or a blind up. By purting a sign up there people will be drawn to looking at it, and reading it, and will still look in, because its a bit like saying 'don't look down!' It makes peple want to look.

mostdays · 12/04/2018 11:03

Nets or blinds.
The people at the end of my road have neither in their front room window and we all have tiny front yards so our windows are close to the street- it's a real effort not to glance in when going past. If they put a sign up saying not to look in, I would laugh, a lot, and think they were bonkers.

sheworebluevelet · 12/04/2018 11:09

Worra You don't stare into people's windows because the people inside do have feelings, which should be respected. That's the manners bit.
Maybe the funny looking person on the street sees you staring, or not. They shouldn't have to make themselves less noticeable or they are considered fair game.
It's rude to stare regardless.

UatuTheWatcher · 12/04/2018 11:10

I have the Ikea voiles and they are brilliant. Let in light while stopping people from looking in.

We have different colours in different rooms to match the curtains and decor.

IrmaFayLear · 12/04/2018 11:15

The best time for a walk is about 4pm on Boxing Day, when everyone’s in and you can see what they’re up to before they’ve drawn the curtains. Family board games, rows of grey heads squashed on sofas, and a couple of years back we spied no fewer than three televisions tuned in to the Two Ronnies marathon on UK Gold.

I love living tableaux!

OliviaStabler · 12/04/2018 11:18

If you don't want people looking in, put up nets and curtains! Not rocket science.

headinhands · 12/04/2018 11:19

Didn't mean to drip feed. It's not my house. I've said that the neighbours will think she's lost the plot.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/04/2018 11:21

You've lost me OP. Who does the house belong to?

headinhands · 12/04/2018 11:22

Someone I know said they were thinking of doing this, not as a joke.

Viviennemary · 12/04/2018 11:24

I love looking windows, especially if there is a nice cosy scene inside or the house is nicely decorated.

I'm not usually nosey but eyes get drawn to a lit window at night. A sign would make me more curious and think the person is a loon. Blinds all the way!

echt · 12/04/2018 11:29

But you did drip feed. All of this could have been put in your OP, OP.

Then everyone would have said silly fucker/who cares/Biscuit/ common sense solutions.

Are you a journalist?

Melamin · 12/04/2018 11:29

www.mybtextiles.com/collections/lace-panels

I have an old fashioned lace panel. I like it better than the plain voiles, as people are distracted by the pattern, so do not try and look past it into the room. They are rather expensive and hard to get now as the looms no longer exist - this is about the only company that do it. The do a lovely fabric called Madras too.

I wish I had a big enough window for the Japanese carp. We just have flowers and bows.

Didn't mean to drip feed. It's not my house

Hmm
GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/04/2018 11:31

Oh you're asking for a friend Wink

PlumsGalore · 12/04/2018 11:39

Shutters!

Its instinctive to look in a window as you walk past, you cant help it, asking people not to look only makes them wonder what the fuss is.

RoseWhiteTips · 12/04/2018 11:49

Thought this one was going to be about airports. Haha

RoseWhiteTips · 12/04/2018 11:50

Lounges are to be found in hotels, also.

Alwayslumpyporridge · 12/04/2018 11:53

Your lounge window will just catch people's eyes as they walk past, its human nature and they are not at fault.

Just put a covering up, day and night blinds are great or an opaque covering if nets are not your thing?

Lovemusic33 · 12/04/2018 11:56

If you live in a house next to a pavement then it’s to be expected. Most people just put nets or blinds up. Never seen anyone put a sign up Hmm
