If the council in Windsor wanting to clear homeless out ?

I mean why don't the royal couple open a shelter instead given they are 'humanitarian' ?

I think Americans don't understand what it is to be British in the same way Brits don't really understand what it is to be American. Because we speak (almost) the same language many people are fooled into believing we have a lot in common.

That's not my point. My point is that virtually no-one gets what it is to be royal. And while Harry's British girlfriends didn't work out (for whatever reason, IDFK) Kate signed up to it, didn't she? And to considerably more than what Meghan's about to.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/04/2018 13:23

It wont take Meghan long to realise being a Royal Duchess is boring and claustrophobic, bound by traditions, protocols and rituals that make very little sense in the 21st century ... She will soon realise that just being Duchess of ............. without the HRH (because that will go in the divorce) will still open a lot more doors/opportunities that just being Mrs Rachel Engelson or Ms Meghan Markle ever could

All this has been my view from the start. They barely knew each other before getting engaged, she's already bailed out on one marriage very quickly and when the waste hits the ventilation - as it does at times in all marriages - she'll be offered the lure of becoming (at least for a while) one of the most bankable actresses in the world

It's a shame for the clearly smitten Harry, but I'd say the chance of this lasting is less than zero

LillianGish · 12/04/2018 13:25

Completely agree puzzled.

ElliePhillips · 12/04/2018 13:28

I lost any 'interest' the day it was announced he was marrying a foreign actress.

Why is it a problem that she is 'foreign'?! Until very recently the royal family alimony exclusively married foreigners. Or is it something else about her 'foreignness' that you dislike? 🤔

ElliePhillips · 12/04/2018 13:28

Alimony = almost (autocorrect shame)

NotACleverName · 12/04/2018 13:33

I see some of the armchair psychologists are out in this thread again, over-analysing Meghan based on what they've seen in the press. Must be exhausting, doing that and diagnosing annoying relatives as narcs.

I'd be interested if Joanna came back and explained exactly what is so bad about Harry marrying a - shock, horror, BRING ME THE FAINTING COUCH - foreign actress, too.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/04/2018 13:37

Prince Charles always strikes me as someone who would be far happier just being a duchy and doing his own thing anyway

Somehow I doubt it. He may have whined that "he might as well give it all up and spend his life skiing" - and some of us certainly wish he would - but his record of keeping his head down and his mouth shut is hardly a strong one

LaurieMarlow · 12/04/2018 13:42

I'd be interested if Joanna came back and explained exactly what is so bad about Harry marrying a - shock, horror, BRING ME THE FAINTING COUCH - foreign actress, too.

Exactly. Because when they married English aristos like Diana, that worked out so well.

nursy1 · 12/04/2018 13:44

agog as usual. I love a wedding

Derxa. I love a wedding too. Nobody is cynical about love and hope. How about we have a new bank holiday in June. Wedding Monday. For those couples interested they could enter a lottery. The winners would have designers and caterers desperate to feature in the big telly event it would be. Inevitably it would feature a wide variety of British citizens more representative of “us” than the RF.
Paid for by the state wedding in your nearest cathedral, ( geographically fairer) procession in the ex Royal carriage.
Everyone would love it.

“When hospitals are understaffed and underfunded, school buildings are inadequate not to mention all the rest of the creaking infrastructure in the U.K. it makes me feel a bit pissed off to say the least. I’d be happy to give another £5 a month to fix that!“

I don’t often type this but LOL Grin do you really think that would “fix” it?

nursy1 · 12/04/2018 13:54

Lottie
No but the taxpayer shouldn’t have to fund it all - a good old fashion redistribution of wealth and collecting tax from those that dodge it might help as well. 💰

findingmyfeet12 · 12/04/2018 13:56

None of us know Meghan and to say that's she's "bailed out" of a marriage is laughable.

Do you know what the issues were in her previous relationships?

Bluelady · 12/04/2018 13:59

Apparently the Royal family costs each of us 65p a year, the same as a 1st class stamp. I can't get excited about that as a waste of money. Of course there has to be security, if hundreds of people got blown to kingdom come in Windsor that day, social media would be flooded with wails about why there was inadequate security.

expatinscotland · 12/04/2018 14:10

'Because the Cambridge family are often together, so it is possible that horrible accident or attack could wipe out the whole lot in a oner. Which puts him next. Only when the Cambridge DC are a bit older and the family is not together all the time as you are with small children, will he really stop being the spare.'

The Cambridges are usually not all together, for that exact reason, there's protocol in place for that. There's also soon to be 3 children and Kate's still plenty young enough to pop a 4th sprog.

I hate that I know this

SukiTheDog · 12/04/2018 14:39

It annoys me so much listening to Harry and Wills et al. talking about mental health and other social issues when they clearly have no concept of REAL LIFE and lack of funding/homelessness/poverty/food banks etc. And no, “we” shouldn’t be paying for their security. You’d think Harry would say, actually, we’ll foot the bill outprselves” out the funds they receive already.

ParisUSM · 12/04/2018 14:43

Though to be fair, they did live with a motherwith mental health issues, and went through separation, divorce and then bereavement at an early age. BIt harsh to say they've no concept of real life.

SukiTheDog · 12/04/2018 14:55

Yes, I agree. But the support they will have had cannot in any way correspond to that which is “the norm” in our state funded services sector. That’s their good fortune but financially, the country is on its knees right now. We shouldn’t be shelling out for their wedding.

Bluelady · 12/04/2018 15:00

We're not shelling out for their wedding. They are.

ParisUSM · 12/04/2018 15:01

Totally agree @SukiTheDog just think they've had to deal with their share of stuff so maybe have quite a good awareness of some mental health issues

SukiTheDog · 12/04/2018 15:01

But the security will cost a fortune!

19lottie82 · 12/04/2018 15:02

the taxpayer shouldn’t have to fund it all

Fund what?

All the tax payer is paying for is the police to secure the event. The same as we pay for them to secure numerous other events, so what’s the big difference?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/04/2018 15:05

None of us know Meghan and to say that's she's "bailed out" of a marriage is laughable

Perhaps so; nevertheless she's from a background where marriages are tossed aside almost on a whim, and a family where divorce is commonplace (the latter being much like the royals themselves, of course)

Which all makes me wonder how she'll react to the latest glitzy offer, once the novelty's worn off and the life she's signing up for becomes clearer

SukiTheDog · 12/04/2018 15:09

Well, the security costs quoted in the media jump up and down all over the place but the lowest is quoted as approximately £24 million and the highest at £30 million. If it’s more than £500, I’d say “foot the bill yourselves”. Doesn’t anybody watch TV’s Hospital? No one reading about police shortages linked to increased knife crime? So, we’re happy to have cuts in security for “us” but spend millions on security for Harry and Meghan’s big day? Ridiculous.

findingmyfeet12 · 12/04/2018 15:25

I doubt anyone's prepared for the life of a royal. Meghan has sought fame and fortune all her life through her choice of career so may well be better equipped than most.
