To declare this being officially an adult?

It's my birthday coming up, and I am genuinely hoping for socks.

That's it, isn't it? This is the point when one is absolutely an adult. Non of this turning 18 bollocks.

Just to compound the point, I also make a strange "oomph"ing noise when I get up and I went into a pub the other day and said, with no irony, "Music's a bit loud."

I also have an unexplainable desire for a steam mop.

AIBU?

I realised I was too far gone into the whole 'adulting' when I asked dh today for one of these for my birthday so I could grow purple carrots and potatoes. Confused

I am currently on the hunt to find a new sugar jar thing. Turns out I'm rather particular about what I want.
I have turned into my mother.

Sheepasaurus · 14/04/2018 23:04

I'm 38. I officially turned into an adult about a week ago. I was telling my 6yr old off for something and told her "I'm not angry, just disappointed........"

Does having membership of NT make you an adult? OK... where do we stand on life membership?

DDs (9 and 7) are life members and I'm worried I've prematurely aged them.

DH and I got EH life membership 10 years ago (money from a job/house move) and that was probably a solid, sensible decision. We do a lot of UK days out/holidays/mini breaks and look up where we can go as part of that.

I like to think my 'adultness' peaked some time ago and I'm now heading into a second childhood aka mid life crisis probably

@QueenOfIce I was just about to post that I was having one of those for my birthday!

I would dearly love a Dyson cordless, I love my heated airer and I am filled with joy that I’ll be able to put the washing out tomorrow.

Our day yesterday was a charity dog walk, building a fence in the garden, Grey’s Anatomy and in bed by ten. A most enjoyable day.

Oh, I've just remembered the weeks of research that went into choosing the perfect draining rack. It was painstaking but yielded an absolutely awesome one which I will never stop loving.

I have given up National Trust membership, after about 12 years. Does this mean I have regressed back to teenagerdom or is it just because all the children are now at University and we no longer need free car parks by some of the loveliest beaches in Britain while they bounce about on body boards in the waves ?

When the Archers became more exciting than the soaps. When Terry Wogan made me lol. When I bought my first brand spanking new ironing board (in my fifties after using a pass me down since 18), when dressing gown became more about comfort than glamour and finally, when I mastered again removal techniques. Sad.

My favourite thing about going to a gallery/museum is now the nice cup of tea and sit-down in the cafe at the end.

I’ve started to save potato peelings in the freezer and make soup out of them. I also saved some squashed tomatoes, peeled and froze them for later. I have also chopped up old veg to make stews and soups out of. I hate food waste! I moan at wasting it.
I get excited about drying washing. Not going out without a coat. No! I can dry towels.
I don’t want “stuff” for birthdays.

Twuntsrule · 17/04/2018 20:00

Oh, I'm ancient.

When you talk about memories and realize that they happened thirty years ago. I can make references in decades now.

When you show off photos of your new little cousins on FB (we have weird age gaps in my family) and those who are just friends of mine on FB congratulate me on my grandchildren. Um, no.

When you realize that the only contemporary artists you can listen to are Bruno Mars and Adele (the others are just plain shiite), and you find you appreciate the storytelling in Country music.

I took out subscriptions to both The Oldie and The Radio Times when I was 28. I got the special RT leather folder too. I'm 43 now and that cover still makes me happy on a daily basis. It has recently become available in a new colour. I'm giving serious thought to upgrading.
