To declare this being officially an adult?

It's my birthday coming up, and I am genuinely hoping for socks.

That's it, isn't it? This is the point when one is absolutely an adult. Non of this turning 18 bollocks.

Just to compound the point, I also make a strange "oomph"ing noise when I get up and I went into a pub the other day and said, with no irony, "Music's a bit loud."

I also have an unexplainable desire for a steam mop.

AIBU?

They're lovely Geeky! Although our fridge freezer's too small to actually use the big one. Sad

QueenOfMyWorld · 11/04/2018 14:38

I get all happy and excited when my black bin is emptiedConfused

SlightlyJaded · 11/04/2018 14:39

Instead of moaning about the rain, I now feel happy for the clematis.
Thinking of getting a 'Which?' account to make sure I buy appliances that are built to last...
Everything in Topshop looks cheap, tiny and ridiculous
Bought a storage system for the boot of my car which makes me happy every time I use it.
Yes yes to steam mop
Bought DH a pressure washer for Christmas (which made him extraordinarily happy)

My only saving grace is that I have tickets to see Eminem in June...

When you look at your life partner, who was once love's young dream, and you realise that you are both wearing comfy fleece tops and trousers with elastic waistbands. And comfy shoes.

scampimom · 11/04/2018 14:47

Choosing shoes based on how far I can walk in them comfortably rather than what they look like.

scampimom · 11/04/2018 14:48

Recently bought a chest freezer to go in the garage, with the day-to-day freezer in the kitchen. I simply do not have the words for how deeply soothing and soul-warming this is.

DoJo · 11/04/2018 14:50

Onestepawayfromtheshoeshine
I already have a second freezer and the theory was always that we would try and run down one to defrost it so that we could still have one full of stuff. Inevitably, we just have two freezers jam-packed with stuff and occasional snowy moments of glory when they both get defrosted in one day.

Worryingly, it never occurred to me that I was an adult when we got the second freezer, but that may have been because we offset the grown-up nature of that by getting a second fridge just for drinks to go with it!

NameChangeTimeNow · 11/04/2018 14:50

GeekyWombat the nest storage is a fab idea! Wonder if they do the same for saucepan lids?

snewsname · 11/04/2018 14:52

I feel grown up on the odd occasion I have a cup of soup in my hands. I don't drink hot drinks normally.

Zaphodsotherhead · 11/04/2018 14:54

The ability to lay and light an open fire in five minutes, then sitting in front of it with a nice cup of tea and saying 'ooh, lovely!'

Also dusting. The mere possession of a can of Pledge makes me adult like nobody's business.

scampimom · 11/04/2018 15:01

I bought special wax for waxing the table. And I find waxing the table vehrrry therapeutic. Wax on, wax off....wax on, wax off...

yolofish · 11/04/2018 15:04

for my 57th birthday in a month or so, my 21 year old is going to buy me the joseph kitchen roll dispenser (not the green one, the grey one). not sure who's more adult, me or her?!

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 11/04/2018 15:07

Being thrilled that I've cleared the house of all available rubbish, recycling and food waste for the binman to pick up the next morning.

Pinkvoid · 11/04/2018 15:08

When I listened to the charts and thought of all of the songs sounded the same and were just meaningless noise.

EyeDrops · 11/04/2018 15:09

Getting excited about having learned to fold a fitted sheet.

Debating whether to buy a steam mop or a spray mop.

Asking for nice saucepans and utensils for Christmas/birthday.

I feel old but very satisfied!!

perroy · 11/04/2018 15:10

The happiest sound is the kettle not the phone bell.

Cliveybaby · 11/04/2018 15:11

@Onestepawayfromtheshoeshine
I asked for a second freezer from my parents a few years ago (think I was 25sih) for my birthday and christmas combined :(

Cliveybaby · 11/04/2018 15:11

And I love it... no regrets!

NKFell · 11/04/2018 15:14

When I was sat at my desk at work with a beaming smile, my colleague asked why I was so happy- I had washed my bedding and knew it was at home drying on the line Grin

SoSobored · 11/04/2018 15:15

One Christmas my husband got me some truly lovely presents. Only for me, you know, pretty things. I was absolutely devastated that I didn't get a steam mop! Confused

myidentitymycrisis · 11/04/2018 15:16

i bought those joseph storage boxes for my 22 yo for christmas.
he is officially now grown up.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/04/2018 15:17

Getting excited about having learned to fold a fitted sheet

I've never bought a fitted sheet. They are the incarnation of the devil as far as I am concerned. That makes me about 90 doesn't it?

PeanutButterCheesecake · 11/04/2018 15:22

I mentioned to my sister in January that I've never received socks for Christmas or birthday, I buy boring practical ones and I'd love some frivolous gifty ones.

Obviously I am a grownup at heart but no-one else has noticed yet.

Woofygoldberg · 11/04/2018 15:23

I officially became an adult when we purchased our own wheelbarrow for the garden. DP said he felt like a proper grown up.

When DP made me the happiest woman in the world and surprised me with a Kenwood Chef Titanium for Christmas Grin- best present I have ever received.

Mistoffelees · 11/04/2018 15:24

I got a teasmade 2 Christmases ago, I think that was quite adulty. Then recently DH and I left a wedding an hour or so into the evening reception so that we could go home for a cup of tea and put pyjamas on. Then again I think I've always been quite old at heart.
