I can't believe I've just had a £500 bill for the last quarter.

We've moved house recently and have bought a tumble dryer we haven't exactly been careful but still surprised.

How much do you pay and how many bedrooms/appliances do you have?

4 bed house. Old house so difficult to heat, SAHP so I’m cold weather heating on all day. Lots and lots of washing, drying and dishwasher. £240 a month

Ninoo25 · 11/04/2018 12:04

That’s for gas and electric btw

PeanutButterSquash · 11/04/2018 12:06

Isn't that about £40 a week? Not much for both, tbh. Especially if your usage is high.
3 bed flat, £28pw direct debits but usually in credit in the summer (gets used in the winter though). 1 adult DC and 3 younger dc. Only have a washing machine.

snash12 · 11/04/2018 12:06

3 bed terrace, anything from £90 (peak summer) to £180 (mid-winter) for both.

Belmo · 11/04/2018 12:06

£92 a month, 3 bed terraced house. Heating on all the time although we don’t have a tumble drier.

snash12 · 11/04/2018 12:06

a month

DullAndOld · 11/04/2018 12:07

that is approx £38 a week.
I pay about £30 a week to heat two rooms, no tumble drier.
No gas, just electric.

HRTpatch · 11/04/2018 12:08

4 bed house.
2 of us...heating on 6-9 am and 4.30-10pm.
Showers everyday...washer on about 8 times a week. Dishwasher on daily.
Yearly we pay just under £1000

£153 a month - 3 bedroom old detached house, which is drafty and hard to heat. There's only 2 of us.

adaline · 11/04/2018 12:11

Approx £60 a month for both. Two bed terrace but we don't have a tumble drier, plus we use the wood burner for heat in winter as opposed to the heating.

Animalsoffarthingwood · 11/04/2018 12:13

Seems like a big variation in what people are paying.

My mil and fil reckon they pay £80 a month for a similar size house and they have much the same appliances.

It's our electricity bill that seems to have gone through the roof. The actual gas usage is quite low considering we've had ye heating on loads.

3 bedroom Victorian house with very little insulation and we pay £85 pm for Gas and Electricity. I think it’s worth going on a fixed DD plan as you won’t get the huge quarterly bill over winter when the heating is on and you cook and have lights on more. I have heating on roughly 50-60% of the day in winter (I have it off totally May-October usually) and I use my washer and tumble dryer every day. I do turn lights off a lot. We have a fairly normal amount of devices.

LittleGoose000 · 11/04/2018 12:16

4 bed 3 storey, washing machine and tumble drier used most days. Heating set at 20c all the time, averages around £70 a month.

Schroedingerscatagain · 11/04/2018 12:20

£78 a month for gas and electricity from ovo

3 bed detached with heating on in the day and a tumble dryer used for all washing (4 loads a week)

Pemba · 11/04/2018 12:33

Last year we were paying £99 a month, small 3 bed detached. Heating on quite a lot, washing machine about 3 times a week.

Then we got a new boiler, and the supplier has cut our direct debit to £85 a month, as we are using less. Yours sounds very high, is your boiler very old?

bellsandwhistles89 · 11/04/2018 12:36

Too bloody much, around £130 a month

We are looking to switch utilities soon as British Gas are about to increase their prices ... again.

Fleurchamp · 11/04/2018 12:37

£100 a month gas and electricity- 3 bed victorian terrace (ie draughty).
Heating is on pretty much constantly at 20c october- May.
Washing machine on daily but drier only used 1/2 times a week.

Haberpop · 11/04/2018 12:43

£30 for electricity (no tumble dryer though) we have oil heating and have used about £400 in oil since Nov (when we moved in), oil consumption will reduce in the summer months as then it will only be used for hot water. Three bedroomed cottage, poor insulation, no double glazing but big thick walls.

Haberpop · 11/04/2018 12:44

£30 a month for electricity that should read

Animalsoffarthingwood · 11/04/2018 12:45

I do pay by direct debit but haven't been paying enough.

I've been paying £120 a month, the debit is now £500 so I guess the bill is even more.

According to the meter we've used around 2500kwh of electricity since January.

I can switch to a cheaper supplier but trouble is I've just arranged to have a smart meter fitted, plus I now owe the supplier £500 Confused
