To ask how much you pay for gas and electricity?

Animalsoffarthingwood · 11/04/2018 11:59

I can't believe I've just had a £500 bill for the last quarter.

We've moved house recently and have bought a tumble dryer we haven't exactly been careful but still surprised.

How much do you pay and how many bedrooms/appliances do you have?

OP posts:
chaplin1409 · 11/04/2018 14:24

We pay £88 a month electricity and £90 a month between October and April on coal. We live in a 3 bed house and there are 6 of us.

PattiStanger · 11/04/2018 14:27

I posted on a similar thread yesterday about bulb customers and their referral codes and surprise surprise I see that someone's already posted one on here.

Is there some kind of alarm that goes off when anyone on the Internet posts about the cost of utilities?

OP - your kWh rates seem quite reasonable, you'll probably save most by cutting down on consumption.

Waspsarewankers · 11/04/2018 14:30

Around £140 a month that's the total of both gas & electric together. 4 bed house. 3 teens. Lots of tumble drying and heat on quite alot of each day as someone is nearly always home.

Againfaster · 11/04/2018 14:31

45 a month for both. 2 bed flat

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 11/04/2018 14:33

Four bed house. We pay less than £100 per month on a dual fuel plan. Washing machine and dishwasher each on at least once per day. Tumble drier is hardly ever used though.

bellsandwhistles89 · 11/04/2018 14:38

Sorry to hijack the thread, all those on low spends want to recommend who they are with. Maybe good for those on high spends (like myself) who are looking to switch...

SluttyButty · 11/04/2018 14:58

Monthly dd same throughout the year. £60 for electric and £50 for gas. Three bed, three storey. Heating on a lot and tumble drier and dishwasher used daily. But we're a relative new build so it's well insulated.

Grassyass · 11/04/2018 15:04

£275 a month.
We have no gas. Big draughty house with heating on most of the day. Washer on every day, sometimes twice. Electric showers and cooking.
Electric £100a month
Oil 3000 litres last year so about £125 a month
Coal/logs £50 a month.

BabychamSocialist · 11/04/2018 15:05

About £160 a month for them both by DD. Our gas bill is astronomical as we have the heating on a lot and it's quite an old house.

PattiStanger · 11/04/2018 15:07

Bellsandwhistles - there's no one answer for everyone, that's what comparison sites are for. Do you check you're on the best tariff every year?

TrickyD · 11/04/2018 15:17

Grassyass, nice (sort of) to see somene payng more than us. Biggish Victorian house, three storeys, five bedrooms, big conservatory with ekectric underfloor heating, which the 17 year old cat wants heated round the clock as he likes to sprawl and snooze on it.

bellsandwhistles89 · 11/04/2018 15:17

Not really. In all honesty we have kind of just stuck with British Gas but its just going up and up. I have set time aside at the weekend to go through everything and will sit myself down on a comparison website.

For some reason it didnt twig that you should check your tariff once a year but will certainly start doing it.

Zaphodsotherhead · 11/04/2018 15:20

£38 a month - electricity only, no gas. No heating. Big old house where I live alone, cook nearly entirely in the microwave, never run immersion tank (water heated from back boiler off open fire). Lights all energy saver bulbs. Laptop on all day, but apart from that buggered if I know where it's going.

SluttyButty · 11/04/2018 15:22

bellsandwhistles I re entry signed up to the latest British Gas tariff that's fixed until March 19 I think.

skippykips · 11/04/2018 15:26

3 bed house. 5 people.

Winter price is £140 per month. We have heating on a lot!

Summer: £70 per month.

Esca · 11/04/2018 15:28

Is there any chance that your immersion switch has been left on (if you have one)? I once had a shocking bill because ours was left on for a very long time, and I hadn't noticed because the switch was inside the airing cupboard, hidden by a pile of towels.

skippykips · 11/04/2018 15:28

Oh should add, end terrace, 3 storey house. Heating on during day through week as we have a 2 year old not in nursery.

Tiddlywinks63 · 11/04/2018 15:28

£72/month for gas and electricity, three bed semi. I use the tumble dryer a lot over winter and because I'm at home and hate feeling cold, I do put the heating on extra to the twice a day timer.

TheVastMajority · 11/04/2018 15:36

£135pm dual fuel
5 bed, ancient house, draughty as hell.
4 teens
Washing machine on every day, tumble drier on very day in winter.

AnduinsGirl · 11/04/2018 15:39

Tenner a week on electric, tenner a week on gas. Pre-payment metre, 4 bed house, live alone.

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 11/04/2018 16:04

@Belmo I've just signed up to Bulb using your link Smile I was looking to move supplier and they are cheap and seem excellent looking at reviews thank you!

PattiStanger · 11/04/2018 16:08

Don't let Martin Lewis hear you say that bellsandwhistles - not moving from British Gas is about the worst deal you can get, he was shouting about it just this morning on the radio.

In all seriousness people if you're not using comparisons sites for all of your household bills and insurances why not? With all the advertising they do I'm really surprised that anyone with Internet access isn't checking everything.

Don't wait until the weekend, do it today

flowerslemonade · 11/04/2018 16:11

I pay £52 a month for both and have the heating on 22C from 8am until midnight.

flowerslemonade · 11/04/2018 16:11

Sorry by that I mean £52 is the total bill.

Gottagetmoving · 11/04/2018 16:13

3 bed house, £79 per month. Reduced from £110 per month because I switched tarrifs
