To ask how much you pay for gas and electricity?

I can't believe I've just had a £500 bill for the last quarter.

We've moved house recently and have bought a tumble dryer we haven't exactly been careful but still surprised.

How much do you pay and how many bedrooms/appliances do you have?

3 bed mid terrace, old solid brick walls so no cavity insulation.

Gas central heating on during the day, gas cooker, two small fridges and medium chest freezer, condenser tumble drier used at least 2 loads per week.

We pay £86/month with Ovo, but we are massively in credit (Ovo pay interest on credit balances, which comes off your bill, so it makes sense to leave it there for now).

We're also with Bulb and have been happy with them. Our last bill was £50 for 1 month, for gas & electricity. Not sure if that's a typical bill, or cheaper because it followed a meter reading

@allthgoodusernamesaretaken that's excellent I'm looking forward to coming on supply with them, I currently pay £160 a month for G and E on prepayment with Utilita. It's ridiculously expensive

PattiStanger · 11/04/2018 16:31

I've compared my current tariff to the bulb one in my area and it's almost exactly the same, I haven't done all the sums but it might even work out a bit more expensive as the daily standing charge is higher.

I wouldn't take the risk of moving to a variable tariff but probably worth it if you're on a standard variable one

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 11/04/2018 16:34

4 bed cottage in the countryside, £40-50 per month, I submit a reading every month and that keeps me right. I only pay for electric though as it’s oil heating

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 11/04/2018 16:35

Sorry should have said 5 of us living here, no tumble dryer, washing machine on maybe 2-3 times a week and dishwasher every other night or so

SluttyButty · 11/04/2018 16:36

Patti I've just checked the bulb link and I'd save around £10 a month and I'm afraid that's just not enough incentive to move from BG.

Rafflesway · 11/04/2018 16:50

£80 per month with Bulb.

4 bedroomed/2 bathroomed detached but pretty well insulated. (House 30 years old.)

There are only 2 of us now though. I use washing machine and dishwasher during the night on eco7. I use tumble dryer during daytime rates. Heating on 24/7 although thermostats on low in unused bedrooms but we do also use the gas fire in the sitting room - I hate being cold - despite having a large radiator there. Just recently I have been more proactive with the general thermostat turning up and down as required. I have also started using the eco settings on my washer and dishwasher so will be interesting to see how these actions affects the bills.

Rafflesway · 11/04/2018 16:51

slutty if you really want to stay with BG but pay less then take a look at Sainsburys fuel - same company but Sainsbury's are cheaper!

HateSummer · 11/04/2018 16:54

£75 a month for gas and electric. British Gas are thieving arses. Last year I paid about £2000 and an extra £500 before leaving them for southern electric. And now they’re hiking their prices up again 5%! Ridiculous.

plominoagain · 11/04/2018 16:54

6 bed house , 7 of us in it , plus added electric for the outside yard , £115 a month . Oil Central Heating so £60 a month keeps us going with substantial credit in the summer . Two gas bottles every two years for the cooker rings at about £50 each because we wait till the summer offers.

RingtheBells · 11/04/2018 16:54

£80 a month, 3 bed 1930s detached and use tumble dryer, and quite a bit of heating, also electric shower and usual appliances, 2 of us in house.

I am on a year fixed rate with Eon and generally switch to one or another of the 'big 6' each year, last year we had a good BG fix and who knows next year.

SluttyButty · 11/04/2018 16:55

Raffles I'm on a fixed tariff at the moment until March next year so I won't be getting any price rises.

specialsubject · 11/04/2018 17:00

I've just done my comparison - even with bulb the increase is over 8%, and I won't use them on principle. their standing charge is very high.

Other suppliers will mean an increase of up to 22% for n ext year.

Excuse spaces, mn coding intern is back.

sonypony · 11/04/2018 17:04

Gosh some of you pay loads Shock 4 bed 3 storey new build and our DD for both is £58. We're not careful at all so I will consider our bill a bargain from now on!

StopBeingAGoat · 11/04/2018 17:34

£50 a month for gas and electric

For 3 people, 2 of whom are home all day.

StopBeingAGoat · 11/04/2018 17:36

I put the heating on for at least 6-8 hours a day

I've also got a tumble dryer.

gingercat02 · 11/04/2018 17:47
