To ask how much you pay for gas and electricity?

I can't believe I've just had a £500 bill for the last quarter.

We've moved house recently and have bought a tumble dryer we haven't exactly been careful but still surprised.

How much do you pay and how many bedrooms/appliances do you have?

was just going to mention that expatinscotland, i am sure i pay more because i live in a rented house and the pre payment meter was already there.
I mean it makes perfect sense doesnt it? we are poor, therefore we should pay more...

HRTpatch · 11/04/2018 12:52

tricky bloody hell

SaucyJack · 11/04/2018 12:57

We put about £10 a week on the electric meter, and about £20 a week on the gas in winter.

Two bed flat in the middle of a block.

QueQueQue · 11/04/2018 13:03

£140 a month for both - 4 bed detached

helpconfused · 11/04/2018 13:05

Two bed semi. Three people, £100pm on prepay.
With dryer.

Moreisnnogedag · 11/04/2018 13:07

£298gas and electricity. Elec by far and away the biggest bulk

OhKnow70 · 11/04/2018 13:08

4 bed 3 storey house, we pay £50 a month in total for both. Have all the mod cons, washer and tumble drier is on 2 loads a day during the week and 3 loads a day over weekend due to changing sheets. Heating is set at 21 comes on whenever the temp drops. However or house is 1 year old and has 12 solar panels so is rated A+ for energy consumption. 2 adults 3 dc all bath or shower daily oh and we have under floor electric heating as well as central heating in the kitchen and dining room.

HumousOnToast · 11/04/2018 13:13

Some of these amounts are shocking.

We're in a three bedroom Victorian terrace. I work at home nearly permanently so heating on a lot.

No tumble drier.

We pay £63 per month. In summer, our usage can be as low as 90p per day.

Sparklesocks · 11/04/2018 13:13

We have a 2 bed end terrace and pay £66 p/m for dual fuel (gas and electric), it recently went up (after using the heating a lot in the freezing winter we just had..). We both work FT and are out of the house 5 days a week 7.30am-6.15pm so that probably keeps it down.

BergamotMouse · 11/04/2018 13:14

About £100 per month for both. We have an Aga which probably eats gas. Don't have heating on much as have woodburners.

flippyfloppyflower · 11/04/2018 13:15

One bed property - no tumble dryer but occasionally use the dishwasher so £35 per month for gas and electricity

GoodMorning1 · 11/04/2018 13:15

£86 a month for both but we've built up a lot of credit since we moved here just a year ago, so I think it should be more like £5-60. Going to wait another month until it's def nice weather then ring and ask for the surplus back and a lower monthly DD.

4 bed, newish build (less than 15 years old), well insulated. We don't have a tumble drier - they're notorious for using a lot of energy.

mountaingirl220 · 11/04/2018 13:15

Three bed flat, we use heating and tumble dryer. Four people in house. £100 a month

whattodowithpoo · 11/04/2018 13:15

£63 ppm for both - 3 bed semi, no tumble dryer but work from home so heating on quite a bit

GoodMorning1 · 11/04/2018 13:17

2500kwh in three months is a lot even in winter. Can you ask your supplier for a smart meter. Would show you where you're using it and help you work out how to cut back.

Animalsoffarthingwood · 11/04/2018 13:20

Humousontoast how much do you pay per kwh?

My charges are 13p per kWh for electric and 3p per kWh for gas. Standing charge of 20p per day.

On a day like today not going out we've got the tv on all day, no heating on as it's not cold, washing machine and tumble dryer both on twice, lights on in the evening,

I want to know where I'm going wrong.

Animalsoffarthingwood · 11/04/2018 13:22

Cross post goodmorning it's ridiculously a lot isn't it?

I'm having a smart meter installed next Friday. Will be watching the meter like a hawk in the meantime.

We never had bills like this in our old house and the only thing that's changed that I can see is getting a tumble drier.

OP posts:
DullAndOld · 11/04/2018 13:27

Tumble dryers eat electricity to be honest.

Koalablue · 11/04/2018 13:38

Gas is about $120 every four months. We have solar panels so don't usually get a bill for electricity. Last time we had a bill was when we had a very cold winter (temperature rarely went above 20 degrees for months).

TrickyD · 11/04/2018 13:41

HRTpatch Bloody hell indeed. This is actually less than I was paying with ScottishPower, have changed to OutFoxthe Market and will see how we get on.

TrickyD · 11/04/2018 13:46

That £248 we pay is not the only fuel cost. Most winter evenings we have a real fire in the sitting room just to be cosy, even though strictly speaking the central heating is pretty good. So quite a lot of money for logs and coal. DH is also dreadful about turning lights off, it drives me mad.

Thehamsterspajamas · 11/04/2018 13:47

1 bed HA flat (with crap insulation) - £39 pm duel fuel. Heating has been on virtually non stop the last quarter and direct debit has been increased from £22 pm.

NeedForBlossom · 11/04/2018 14:19

I started a thread on this recently - 5 people, 3 bed house, electric shower, dishwasher, washing machine but no tumble dryer -

Dec - March bill for gas & electric - £800 Shock

So we are skint this month, good job eldest is revising for GCSEs so we didn't have much planned this Easter...

NeedForBlossom · 11/04/2018 14:20

Tbf, DH works from home most days so the heating has been on 24/7 when it was really cold.

ThatIsNachoCheese · 11/04/2018 14:24

£59 a month. 4 bed detached, all out of the house Monday to Friday, new build house.
