Re scone topping order

Jam then cream - if its proper clotted cream and home made (not sloppy) jam then the jam doesn't spread right on top of the cream!

Never ever have butter on a scone with jam and cream! If you think it needs it, frankly you haven't put enough cream on it

I can assure you Olennas that though I like to butter scones, I still put a stupid amount of cream on.

Oh god! I think I was at the scene of a near divorce over this at Castle Drogo about 3 years ago, a couple next to me where having a quite intense debate over which order.

I just mentioned this thread to dh as he was passing, his comment was
"We all know the correct way so there is no need to discuss it"

Jam then cream. There's no discussion to be had.

This thread made me stop off and buy scones/clotted cream last night. They were so good.

I agree no butter but then I don’t use butter on anything so my vote doesn’t really count!

Cream on first, then jam.
