Cut in half, cream first then jam, both sides!

I like blackcurrant jam on mine I find strawberry too sweet.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 11/04/2018 11:21

Er, am I the only one who puts butter on as well? Butter first, after that obviously it's jam then cream.

Prancingonthevalentine · 11/04/2018 11:25

Dp

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 11/04/2018 11:25

Jam first and then cream, then a bit more cream and add a dollop of cream!

I tried it the other (wrong) way when I was in Devon but I didn’t like it. You get more cream the Cornish way.

Blondephantom · 11/04/2018 11:25

I’m happy with either as long as there is plenty of ham and cream though a warm scone with melting butter is nice too.

Think I’d better go makes some scones...

clippityclop · 11/04/2018 11:28

Both here. Some with strawberry jam, cream and then half a strawberry on top, and then another plate of scones with cream first and a blob of apricot or blackcurrant jam on top.

Serialweightwatcher · 11/04/2018 11:28

I really hate scones, but if I were doing the deed for someone else, I would put the jam on first, otherwise it would be hard to spread properly and just be dolloped --is that a word?- on the top ... so it's the one on the right that is right imo. From Yorkshire btw, don't know if that means anything (and yes I say 'scone' as in 'gone' Grin )

LemonRedwood · 11/04/2018 11:29

I wish I'd had scones for breakfast

missbattenburg · 11/04/2018 11:29

Cream
Jam
Butter
Scone

That is all Grin

pigmcpigface · 11/04/2018 11:29

I think jam then cream for the practical reason that the jam has a tendency to fall off the cream if put on top of it, and the cream kind of anchors it if it's on top.

This is NOT the Cornish way, though, as the National Trust recently found out: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/03/11/national-trust-apologises-cornish-appearing-endorse-putting/

shockthemonkey · 11/04/2018 11:30

I think it depends on the consistency of the cream.

If it's light and fluffy as yours looks, it will just get squidged away by the jam if you try to put it on first.

If it's really dense clotted cream then I agree, the cream is a butter replacement and CAN go on first (but I still like the jam first and cream on top).

missbattenburg · 11/04/2018 11:30

as long as there is plenty of ham and cream

Ham and cream? Wrong. Very wrong....

viques · 11/04/2018 11:30

"Naice ham" only though Blondephantom one has standards!

Tinkobell · 11/04/2018 11:31

Flip 'em over into a stack and nosh the lot. End of debate.

tabulahrasa · 11/04/2018 11:32

“Er, am I the only one who puts butter on as well? Butter first, after that obviously it's jam then cream.”

Nope me too... I’m going Confused at all this the cream is instead of butter nonsense.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 11/04/2018 11:33

Butter first for me too - then jam, then cream!

ArcheryAnnie · 11/04/2018 11:34

How do you spread the cream properly if there's already jam on the scone? I can only suppose (whisper it) that you must not be using decent clotted cream if you are able to blob it on top.

Cream first, always.

pigmcpigface · 11/04/2018 11:36

I don't really spread the cream if it's good cream like Rodda's. I dollop it on in something that ends up resembling a miniature Alpine scene, then try not to think about my arteries.

WeAllHaveWings · 11/04/2018 11:36

jam first so you can spread evenly over the scone, then dollop of cream on top which is easier to spread over jam. I have tried cream first but it ends up a mess trying to spread the jam.

MakeItRain · 11/04/2018 11:37

I do the same as your dp. Because you can spread the jam in a civilised way then greedily dollop masses of cream on top.

FloydOnThePull · 11/04/2018 11:37

Jam first then cream. The jam soaks into the scone (to rhyme with cone btw) a bit the make it more delicious. It's also glaringly obvious that you can get more of both on that way as nicely illustrated by your photos. The jam is a better foundation as it has better structural integrity especially once it starts to soak into the scone a bit.

SavvyBlancBlonde · 11/04/2018 11:41

And the war line between Devon and Cornwall commences....

Cream first - it acts as butter then a healthy dollar of strawberry jam. English breakfast tea to wash it all down with 👍🏼

pigmcpigface · 11/04/2018 11:42

"scone (to rhyme with cone btw)"

Oh, oh, oh, you've really gone there!

I totally agree.

HildaZelda · 11/04/2018 11:44

Spread jam first, then dollop cream. No butter. You've already got dairy.
Also, scone as in cone. Not scone as in gone. The e at the end isn't silent.

clarabellski · 11/04/2018 11:45

Even though the title gave it away, I wish I hadn't clicked on this thread
