Hi everyone, shamelessly posting here for traffic but in a bit of a nice dilemma and need some honest advice! No faffing, just plain advice. As a "mature" bride to be (mid to late 40's) would I be unreasonable to wear a white/cream/blush coloured long wedding dress? I'm not going full out meringue, just something with sleeves, quite plain.

I was judged at work for not ruling this out, i'm a bit too young for a "naice" cream trouser suit!

Of course YANBU!! Your colleagues are mental Confused

LifeBeginsAtGin · 11/04/2018 09:21

Yes, something more 'long evening dress' would be appropriate for a mature bride, but my opinions differ greatly to most on MN Smile

Catspaws · 11/04/2018 09:21

YANBU!

There is no expiry date on wedding dresses! Even if you wanted to wear a full meringue with lace and sparkles and feathers and led lights it would still be your choice!

You're not less of a bride because you're not 25 and you are every bit as entitled to wear the gorgeous wedding gown of your dreams. I went to a wedding recently for a 53 yo colleague and she wore a stunning floor length, off the shoulder ivory gown with diamantes in the pleat at the back and she looked so beautiful and bridal and stunning.

Have an amazing day, and congratulations!

RulaLenskasHair · 11/04/2018 09:21

Agree. Wear what YOU want!

People can be such judgmental bastards - what is it to do with them?!

(Sorry. Bad start to day. But would still say wear what you want any time!)

CrispsForTea · 11/04/2018 09:23

It's your day, not theirs. They have no right to judge you for wanting to wear a wedding dress on your wedding day. To be honest, they wouldn't even have a right to judge you if you had announced to them that you and your husband-to-be were planning to spend the day dressed as a pantomime horse. Just do what makes you happy!

Ikabod · 11/04/2018 09:23

Tell your colleagues to shut up. It's your wedding, your choice. Have a fine, fun day wearing something you love and feel fabulous in!

GreenTulips · 11/04/2018 09:25

Oh yes wear one! Can we help?

LartenCrepsley · 11/04/2018 09:26

Wear what you like and what makes you feel great.
Have a wonderful wedding day!

sirlee66 · 11/04/2018 09:28

Absolutely wear one! My mum re-married at 50 and wore the most beautiful WHITE dress. She looked stunningly beautiful!

and so will you!!!!

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!!

Mumteedum · 11/04/2018 09:29

My friend just got married aged 50. She looked absolutely gorgeous in her full length ivory dress. It wasn't a meringue by any means but very much a wedding dress and exactly what she deserved. That is, something really special. You get what you want to wear op and be happy!

Lovestonap · 11/04/2018 09:29

My mum looked gorgeous in her outfit for her second wedding (55).

It wasn't white, sort of an antique gold outfit - quite georgian in style (long, empire line, fitted little jacket) Definitely bridal and not mother of the bride style.

It was a church wedding with all the trimmings and it was fab

Eminybob · 11/04/2018 09:30

My MIL wore a proper wedding dress when she got married in her 60’s so 40’s is definitely not too old!
Wear whatever makes you feel special on your wedding day and ignore everyone else.

Luckingfovely · 11/04/2018 09:33

Absolutely go for it and ignore everyone else!

CMOTDibbler · 11/04/2018 09:35

Wear whatever you want - if thats a full on 'Gypsy Brides' kind of dress, or a little slip of a satin and lace thing, or anything in between, then go for it. I think the only time I'd judge a dress is if it was one bought for, or worn at a previous marriage ceremony to someone else

Maryannesingleton · 11/04/2018 09:36

I’m 45 and in the same position, not a clue what I want to wear, vaguely thinking of something tea length.

tierraJ · 11/04/2018 09:36

My friend got married for the 3rd time aged 53 & wore a strapless white wedding dress, she looked stunning.

Another colleague similar age wore a white wedding dress to her 3rd wedding also, with a blue trim as she supported Chelsea.

And a friend mid 40s wore a beautiful black & white wedding dress to her 4 th wedding (I know quite a few people been married a few times!!)

I'm 41, if I ever get married I will wear something white & sparkly/ lacy.

Maryannesingleton · 11/04/2018 09:37

Definitely not too old

GooodMythicalMorning · 11/04/2018 09:38

Wear what you want lovely. It's your special day!

Blackteadrinker77 · 11/04/2018 09:41

Are your colleagues paying for your outfit?

WeAllHaveWings · 11/04/2018 09:41

Why wouldn't you? I've only been to 3 over 40 weddings and all 3 brides wrote a wedding dress.

What about this!

SerenDippitty · 11/04/2018 09:43

A friend of mine who got married at around 50 10 years ago wore a full length lilac coloured dress with a fitted bodice and matching bolero, she looked lovely. But white/cream/blush would be fine too.

Kilo3 · 11/04/2018 09:46

It's such an outdated idea that white dresses are exclusively for 20 year old virgins! In fact, wearing a white dress to be married is a relatively modern concept anyway. DM wrinkled her nose at the idea of me having an ivory wedding dress and I'm only 30! I told her I would be wearing whatever I liked, be that a white dress, gimp outfit or chicken suit! I've seen brides in many different outfits: white dresses, burgundy ball gowns, and blue cocktail dresses - they were all stunning!

CocoLoco87 · 11/04/2018 09:47

I love this dress. Simple, not meringue like, but still bridal and classy. Wear what you like! And congratulations Smile
