Hi everyone, shamelessly posting here for traffic but in a bit of a nice dilemma and need some honest advice! No faffing, just plain advice. As a "mature" bride to be (mid to late 40's) would I be unreasonable to wear a white/cream/blush coloured long wedding dress? I'm not going full out meringue, just something with sleeves, quite plain.

I was judged at work for not ruling this out, i'm a bit too young for a "naice" cream trouser suit!

Monsoon also do lovely wedding dresses. 40 is NOT too old, good grief! Wear what makes you feel amazing. Sod them Smile

i’m getting married in June when i’ll be 47 and i’m wearing This - www.jesuspeiro.com/en/vestido-novia/8002/ No-one has suggested a trouser suit to me. Wear what you like!

GreenTulips · 11/04/2018 11:18

That's beautiful!

Yecartmannew · 11/04/2018 11:25

I also thought I was too old for a proper wedding dress when I got married (first time bride) 2 years ago aged 46. Daughters booked me in to a bridal shop for a fitting as a surprise. Bridal shop lady asked me what i thought i wanted and also asked me to trust her with regard to other possibilities.

Instead of the plain chiffon Grecian style thing I thought I wanted, I ended up with this and was instantly in love with it. I felt like a princess on the day and still occasionally have a longing to get it down out of the loft and wear it again!!!

to want to wear a wedding dress??
carolinegoescrazy · 11/04/2018 11:47

Thanks so much everyone! I'm much happier now to try on a beautiful bridal gown! I'll probably have sleeves as I hate my arms, but otherwise it seems the sky is the limit.

If there is one day you can wear whatever you want, surely it's your wedding day, no matter what your age.

Go for it!

badtime · 11/04/2018 12:14

This is weird. Maybe I live in a bubble, but it genuinely never occurred to me that anyone would try to police what a bride wore like this.

I got married at 40, and if anything people were trying to talk me into a meringue!

PericardiumOne · 11/04/2018 12:20

I got married at 39 in a white dress and veil. So there Grin

Momo18 · 11/04/2018 12:23

No way should a bride feel too old to wear a dress, the trouser suits imo are awful. Wear whatever you want and ignore any idiots who say different.

Mrsglitterfairy · 11/04/2018 12:23

I would say to wear a full length evening dress as a ‘mature bride’ however thats just one opinion, is your day and if you want to wear a dress that would rival Katie Price’s pink meringue then go for it! Whatever makes you happy

LokiBear · 11/04/2018 12:29

Your colleagues are stupid. You should absolutely wear the dress of your dreams.

altiara · 11/04/2018 12:31

Love that *coco.
OP go for it!! Send pictures. Enjoy the dress hunt Wine

zoobaby · 11/04/2018 12:34

Do what you like and who gives a toss about naysayers.

I was older than average when marrying. Although I definitely didn't want to do the massive bridal gown thing, I still wanted to look nice and look like a bride. I started off thinking I'd go for a nice evening dress type thing but I found they were actually too fancy and fussy and sparkly and sequiny.

actually really liked the off the peg chain store type dresses. White and bridal but not over the top. They suited my taste and budget and I found some really nice ones. Ended up with good ol Monsoon and lots of compliments hope they weren't just being kind to the mutton in the bridal dress

theunsure · 11/04/2018 12:36

I went to a wedding last year - bride's 2nd marriage and in her 50's and she had a full on wedding dress. She looked bloody fantastic and I am so glad she had the confidence to do it.

Wear what you like! I had a proper wedding dress for a wedding with just me and DH (no guests at all). I don't give a flying fig, I adore my photos!

annandale · 11/04/2018 12:38

'I know we all thought she was too old to wear white, thirty or something terrible'

A quote from a book published in 1945 about the 1930s. We no longer think Hitler is a jolly good chap, please don't be guided by opinions from that era. I had a glorious dress made for my second wedding, ivory satin underdressed, embroidered silk gauze overdress, I looked awesome Smile On the positive side you don't have to invite your colleagues - win.

ILookedintheWater · 11/04/2018 12:43

Where whatever you like.
It's your wedding day. You get to feel as bridey as you like!

ILookedintheWater · 11/04/2018 12:43

Wear whatever you like.

SurlyValentine · 11/04/2018 12:48

I got married at 40, wearing this. Absolutely love the dress, fitted like a dream and felt so comfy in it.

You have to wear exactly what you want to wear, regardless of anyone else's opinion on the matter. Hope you find your dream dress Grin

Willow2017 · 11/04/2018 12:48

Your wedding your special day wear whatever you like.
Have a great time trying on dresses and have a lovely wedding.

windchimesabotage · 11/04/2018 12:54

YANBU!! Its your wedding of course you should wear a wedding dress if you want to!
I love the whole wedding dress thing and I wore a full meringue with a giant floral headdress even though my wedding was in a forest and we all got covered in mud!
Dont miss out if thats what you want! People tried to convince me that a short dress would be more 'suitable' but i wouldve regretted it.
Wear the dress that you love!

PoorYorick · 11/04/2018 13:03

What? I've been to loads of weddings where the bride was your age or older, and all but one wore a beautiful wedding dress. The exception wore a lace skirt and jacket suit, and I remember thinking she was too young for it. (And I was about 16 at the time.)

Wear whatever the hell you want! You'll look beautiful.

Dvg · 11/04/2018 13:05

fk that, i say wear what you want when you want, a wedding dress is not a big deal -_-

Cantaana · 11/04/2018 13:07

@carolinegoescrazy and @Maryannesingleton both wear exactly what YOU want to wear, go to shop, try all the styles on and start to narrow down from there. I've lost count of the number of brides i've seen who have come in with preconceived ideas about what they should choose based on their age, or venue, and invariably informed by some busy body. I always take the time to talk to them and find what they want.

I also get a lot of second time round or 'older' (said with a pinch of salt) brides who come in wanting to try a tea length but swiftly decide this isn't for them.

If you are anywhere near Reading, Wokingham, Basingstoke way please feel free to drop me a PM, you are welcome to come and see me where I work. I promise I don't bite and we can just spend some time trying the different gowns (we have quite a few) and have some fun. And we have amazing seamstresses on site who can rustle up sleeves and clever lace jackets if you want caroline.

Tolka · 11/04/2018 13:12

Go for it! Watched a 'say yes to the dress' programme recently. Bride was in her fifties. Picked a beautiful wedding dress, stunning! Have a brilliant day.
