Loads of shops, bars and restaurants are now allowing dogs in them.
I'm very allergic and one of my dc is too.
It's so widespread now. Such little thought for those with allergies.

Oh and the fleas. My aunt is very allergic to flea bites, she swells up like a beach ball and will be unwell for days. Yes it’s not fair on those with allergies. Many allergies can be reasonably avoided but If dogs are allowed everywhere that has serious repercussions for some people. Why do people care more about dogs than people?

Alpineflowers · 11/04/2018 21:33

If the dog bites because it has been hurt what will be achieved by putting the dog down?

It will prevent the dog biting, or even attacking, again.

Don't go to France whatever you do, dogs are welcomed nearly everywhere, it's truly wonderful to see

Thats weird, i go to france 3 or 4x per year and see hardly any dogs and the ones i do see are small ones, well trained ones, not so in UK.

There are apparently 8.5 million dogs in England alone, so not surprising they are "everywhere"
Like much in this country, entitlement to do what the xxxx i like is the root cause of these issues, keep your dog under control, clean up its shit and all is good..

Fleas mostly live in carpets, bedding and grass and travel on people's socks and clothes. Banning dogs from public spaces won't prevent fleas entering public spaces.

And is your Aunt not also allergic to midges and other biting insects? My daughter is allergic to all biting insects as is my dog. We use these wonderful new products called insect repellents and flea and tick drops.

Yes, some allergies can be avoided, some can't. I feel for people with allergies but it is up to the business owner whether or not to exclude dogs and in places where dog owners are likely to be the target customer, such as cafes and pubs in country parks and villages, I can't blame them for not wanting to exclude the majority of their customers in case someone is allergic.

Anyone expecting them to do so would be as mad me expecting the local falconry center to stop allowing birds because I'm allergic to the dust from their feathers.

Sadly, if you have allergies that can't be controlled with medication, you need to be make adjustments. You can't ask the world and his dog to accommodate your particular needs to their own detriment.

Alpineflowers · 11/04/2018 21:41

Why do people care more about dogs than people?

I think some of them are under the delusion that dogs are people. That they even have human traits and human emotions Confused

Alpineflowers · 11/04/2018 21:44

It won’t prevent the child tormenting another dog though, will it?

The simple answer is to keep your dogs away from children and on a leash at all times when out in public.

Frequency · 11/04/2018 21:47

I'd like to keep my dog away from children at all times, in fact I'd love to keep myself away from strange, small humans at all times. Their unpredictability plays havoc with my social anxiety, alas, he attracts them with his cute furriness Sad

I've tried walking him with a lead that states 'Nervous, Needs Space' it doesn't stop the little buggers throwing themselves at us.

Ivorbig1 · 11/04/2018 21:50

Many dog owners assume the sun shines out of their pooches arse and would not hurt anyone, actually they can’t vouch for that.

Dogs should be on a lead not left free to roam and bother others.

HaroldsSoCalledBluetits · 11/04/2018 21:56

Francis, the article goes into detail about six attacks. It doesn't say that all of the remaining 199,994 happened in the home.

Mumsnet does make me laugh. None of the dogs where I live sit quietly under tables, ever. They are incapable of doing so because they belong to people who spend their days so out of it that their only interaction with the dog is to kick it when it stands in front of the telly and watch it shit in other people's gardens/growl at anyone else on the street while they stand around getting even more wasted. And yes, I know that the problem is the owner but those owners create very real problem dogs.

Catsandkids78 · 11/04/2018 22:00

This thread contains such odd opinions .

My office in London has about 12 dogs - they are well behaved and I take mine to work some days , sometimes client meetings if they are dog friendly . Everyone loves them in the building and they lubricate lots of networking and conversations :)

monkeysox · 11/04/2018 22:00

Missed the point about hobby craft example.

I can't go there now because dogs can. Do you understand now?

I detest the idea of a world where dogs (and the owners) are more important than people.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 11/04/2018 22:02

I love dogs but just came bank from a UK holiday and yes they were bloody everywhere! Even on a boat we had to catch 🙄

MinnieMousse · 11/04/2018 22:03

Don't go to France whatever you do, dogs are welcomed nearly everywhere, it's truly wonderful to see.

I'm genuinely surprised by this as I go to France every summer and never seem to see any dogs. They don't seem to be allowed on beaches in the summer. I stay in a group of holiday cottages and pets aren't allowed there. The only dogs I can recall seeing at all are of the handbag variety in Paris.

sockappella · 11/04/2018 22:03

Lots of people assuming that dog allergies are due to hair.

Newsflash: we're not all allergic to their hair. I'm fine with hair, it's actually the water vapour in their breath that I'm allergic to. Panting dogs can give me an asthma attack. I only have to be in the same room as a dog for 5 mins and I can't breathe.

So actually, you being covered in dog hair is irrelevant. Unless you have dog breath, I'm fine with dog owners. It's your gross dogs that are the problem.

Frequency · 11/04/2018 22:06

I would imagine Hobby Craft have made their business decision based on the needs of their business.

It's shit for you but at the end of the day Hobby Craft need to make a profit and it would seem they think this will help maximise their profit.

Also, service dogs have the right to be anywhere. How do you cope with service dogs?

MinnieMousse · 11/04/2018 22:06

I agree that there are some very strange views about the importance of dogs over children. I found this on the other thread about children who are scared of dogs too.

Yes but you don’t generally come into contact with bogs in daily life. It’s not like midges are swarming shops, cafes and restaurants. And I find it completely hilarious that the dog owners on here think their dogs don’t have fleas. Of course people are the main spreaders of fleas, of course. And of course a fleas natural environment is a carpet. It’s funny they’ve never lived in my carpets though. Could this be becasue no dogs have been in my house?

Whilst I really dislike dogs and don't want them near me, I certainly don't object to assistance dogs in any way.
