I can ALWAYS taste the difference. Kitchen water is nicer. DH is a plumber and says this is impossible as it's the exact same water. I'm sure I could do a blind taste test. Is there a difference or is it just me?

Bathroom cold water is from a tank. Don’t drink it!

LadyPenelopeCantDance · 10/04/2018 19:03

Is it because the bathroom water isn’t close to the mains and sits in the pipe? I was always told never to drink bathroom water!

Hellohellohowareyou · 10/04/2018 19:04

They taste totally different to me too, don’t like bathroom tap water even if it’s been running a while 😷

Shizzlestix · 10/04/2018 19:04

Surely your dh knows this?! Also, pipes may be of different types of metal.

TroysMammy · 10/04/2018 19:04

My bathroom water is lovely and cold like it's been in the fridge. My kitchen cold water not icy cold.

cushioncovers · 10/04/2018 19:05

The bathroom tap water is only from a tank if you still have that type of system in your house. Otherwise it's the same water.

Hellohellohowareyou · 10/04/2018 19:08

Yep ours isn’t a tank system but I can still taste the difference

dementedpixie · 10/04/2018 19:09

My bathroom water does come from a tank in the loft. I still drink it, I don't mind the taste of pigeon Grin

Whatshallidonowpeople · 10/04/2018 19:10

I don't think he can be a very good plumber. Even if you don't have a tank, the water will have been sitting in the pipes

amelio · 10/04/2018 19:13

Now I'm wondering if he's just said it's the same to stop me complaining when he gets me a drink from that tap instead of downstairs 🤔

I won’t drink bathroom tap water Blush

I know full well it’s ridiculous

I think I heard about the water tank in my youth and always avoided it

Even though in my current flat the bathroom is actually closer to the mains than the kitchen. The stop cock is in the bathroom. I don’t have a cold water tank. Still won’t drink bathroom tap water though.

Trialsmum · 10/04/2018 19:14

Our bathroom water is colder and tastes nicer. It’s not from a tank though.

Ginnotginger · 10/04/2018 19:27

Yes, different taste, the upstairs tap water tastes better than the downstairs tap water and is definitely colder. The best tapwater is from my parent's bathroom about half a mile uphill from my home - it's always icy cold and just tastes great. Their kitchen tapwater is meh.

lljkk · 10/04/2018 19:27

Our upstairs bathrm water is from a tank & often tastes bad after a day or so.
Our downstairs bathroom water is straight off mains.

DC insist the upstairs water is nicer than from kitchen. Confused

AdaColeman · 10/04/2018 19:30

It depends on the water system in your house, mine comes from the rising main so is just the same as kitchen water.

Amanduh · 10/04/2018 19:31

Most (some do) houses don’t have a tank in this day and age. So if it doesn’t it is the same water. But if you know you know!

3stonedown · 10/04/2018 19:32

I've just tasted both and they taste the same to me

MIL will be horrified I drank bathroom tap water

Pebbles16 · 10/04/2018 19:33

If you are in the UK, most houses the bathroom tap is from a tank in the roof. It is potable (depending on your preference for vegetarian water, think dead birds and mice which are also prevalent in UK houses). How do people not know this?

Ansumpasty · 10/04/2018 19:34

I couldn’t drink it, same as I couldn’t drink bath water. Purely psychological, I know

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 10/04/2018 19:34

Yeah... even if they're both from the mains (mine was, once we got a combi-boiler) - you'd be horrified if you take off the little filter bit that's on the end of the tap and clean it..

ginghamstarfish · 10/04/2018 21:55

Ooh yes, the grot on the tap .. I can't get the ends off so spray with a little bleach and then vinegar, the scrub with an old toothbrush. Never did this until a few years ago and was horrified at the fact that I'd never known ..

Merryoldgoat · 10/04/2018 21:58

OP - if you have a water tank in the loft and need to heat a hot water tank then bathroom water comes from the loft tank.

If you have a combi boiler that heats water on demand your bathroom tap is mains and fine to drink. Might want to let the tap run a bit first, though.

Lethaldrizzle · 10/04/2018 22:01

I haven't lived in a house with a water tank since I were a nipper. All the water tastes the same to me

MrsLinManuelMiranda · 10/04/2018 22:12

I won't drink water from bathroom tap ( although I obviously use it to brush teeth and swill out mouth afterwards) This stems from my DF telling me years ago that it was not drinking water, this was in our pre war house-even though I now live in a modern house. My DH thinks the water from bathroom tap is better because it is always colder and he assures me it come from the same place as kitchen tap.

mancmummy1414 · 10/04/2018 22:17

I much prefer bathroom tap water!
