SiL stole DH's tattoo

upsideup · 10/04/2018 14:32

DH has tattoos of the kids names in their handwriting from the first time they wrote it and it was readable, hes just got 4 year old DS2's name added.
SiL has just got the same with her kids names but in a 13 year old and 10 year olds handwriting and then a 2 year olds scribble.
DH has lots of tattoos, SiL before this had no tattoos. She also hasnt tell us about this and we just found out from her dd showing us a photo, its fully healed so done some time ago.

AIBU to be extremely annoyed by this? I know DH doesnt own doing it but its obvious shes copied him and then to not even mention it us.

To not drip feed this isnt the first time she's tried to copy us. We go on holiday somewhere and she goes the same place next year, we get a dog and she gets the same bread a few months later (and then gets rid of it after a year), my DC start a new hobby and hers soon start the same. Oh and 3 year old dd is Emmi and her girls name if her 2 year old ds was a girl apparently was always going to Emma since she was a child (she has an older dd she didnt want to call Emma).

People often get a tattoo after seeing it somewhere else. It’s not the exact tattoo, not your dh’s tattoo, she liked the idea of what your dh had done so she decided to do the same, no big deal is it? Not as though she’s had your children’s names tattooed on her body.

I wish my life was so boring that all I had to worry about was someone getting the same tattoo as me. Much worse things to get your kickers in a twist about.

Nicknacky · 10/04/2018 15:20

I'm surprised the alcohol thing was at the bottom of your list. It would be higher on mine than her plaiting her kids hair.

Vitalogy · 10/04/2018 15:20

Try and love and help the woman, she sounds lost.

Emma198 · 10/04/2018 15:21

YABU and childish.

JiminyBillyBob · 10/04/2018 15:22

Get a life.

Bridezilla2be · 10/04/2018 15:23

I can see why you’d be annoyed, it’s very draining having everything you do copied by someone but as PPs have said it’s not a tattoo he designed or something so you should just forget it.

I have a friend who constantly asks where I’m going on holiday so she can go before me but it’s bringing me great joy making up destinations I have no intention of going to. Grin

HateSummer · 10/04/2018 15:23

I hate tattoos, they look horrible. Especially name ones.

Joanna57 · 10/04/2018 15:24

Blimey.

Are you on school holidays and bored?

Idontdowindows · 10/04/2018 15:24

I know so many people with this type of tattoo that they could all reasonably accuse your husband of stealing the idea, so shrug

quizqueen · 10/04/2018 15:27

When I first bought a house in the 70s, I liked the way a friend had decorated parts of her home (one dark wall) and I copied some of her decorative ideas (coloured alabaster eggs in a basket). What's the difference between that and getting inspiration from magazines etc? They don't just sell one of everything in the world unless you pay for the privilege of owning something unique or own the copyright!

Bluelady · 10/04/2018 15:30

Never heard that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

fruitbrewhaha · 10/04/2018 15:31

The alcohol things is nuts, and I see is not just the SIL.

The dog thing is weird, I thought you were going to say a spaniel, to which I'd say everyone has one, but a newfoundland.

Perhaps just see her less often and tell her less stuff, she sounds toxic.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 10/04/2018 15:34

How strange you called your DD the name your SIL has always wanted.

Hmm
DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 10/04/2018 15:34

In that thread you posted, you say you very rarely see her. You obviously cannot bear your husbands sister, so go NC. She will probably be as relieved as you.

The disdain for her is just dripping through your posts.

guitar02 · 10/04/2018 15:36

maybe test the theory out a bit more, it may just be she admires you or something.

TheJoyOfSox · 10/04/2018 15:37

My tattoo was copied directly from an image off the internet. I told my tattoo artist what I wanted, he found the exact image I’d described. Should the original owner be annoyed?

You really, really need to learn to pick your battles op.

Caramina · 10/04/2018 15:39

I know two people who have this tattoo. It's cute. But if you want to stick to your argument, shame on your husband for stealing the idea from someone else!

BlondeB83 · 10/04/2018 15:40

YABU and not just about the tattoo.

TSSDNCOP · 10/04/2018 15:41

Are you 10?

StickThatInYourPipe · 10/04/2018 15:41

But she didn't let her ds skateboard after he saw your ds skateboarding and said it is too dangerous - so she doesn't copy everything.

Tew alcohol thing is a completely separate issue IMO

WanderingTrolley1 · 10/04/2018 15:43

Awfully tacky.

BottleBeach · 10/04/2018 15:44

The original owner shouldn’t be annoyed, no. But I imagine the original artist would not be happy at having their design stolen.

Creambun2 · 10/04/2018 15:46

Tattoos are awful anyway. But kids names and dates of birth are utterly tacky, especially on the boob or neck.
