SiL stole DH's tattoo

upsideup · 10/04/2018 14:32

DH has tattoos of the kids names in their handwriting from the first time they wrote it and it was readable, hes just got 4 year old DS2's name added.
SiL has just got the same with her kids names but in a 13 year old and 10 year olds handwriting and then a 2 year olds scribble.
DH has lots of tattoos, SiL before this had no tattoos. She also hasnt tell us about this and we just found out from her dd showing us a photo, its fully healed so done some time ago.

AIBU to be extremely annoyed by this? I know DH doesnt own doing it but its obvious shes copied him and then to not even mention it us.

To not drip feed this isnt the first time she's tried to copy us. We go on holiday somewhere and she goes the same place next year, we get a dog and she gets the same bread a few months later (and then gets rid of it after a year), my DC start a new hobby and hers soon start the same. Oh and 3 year old dd is Emmi and her girls name if her 2 year old ds was a girl apparently was always going to Emma since she was a child (she has an older dd she didnt want to call Emma).

Why would she need to tell you in advance? To get your ok before she puts something on her body that’s nothing to do with you?

And the long list of copying sounds bloody ridiculous too. Lots of people have dogs, lots of people go on holiday, about a million people called Emma. Do you think you the only people to have tattoos and dogs?

PaulAnkaDog · 10/04/2018 14:44

This literally must be one of the most common tattoos that tattoo artists have to put up with doing. So many parents have them. Actually laughing at the idea of it being copied from your husband.

notsohippychick · 10/04/2018 14:45

Dear god. I really wouldn’t get worked up about it.

upsideup · 10/04/2018 14:45

Okay I see I'm being unreasonable about the tattoo, my judgement is obviously clouded by her previous behaviour.

Why does she have to check with you what tattoo she gets? Confused

sleepyhead24 · 10/04/2018 14:45

You sound like a teenager Biscuit who cares

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 10/04/2018 14:46

Disappointed.

Thought this thread was about actually stealing a tattoo, ie skin grafts

viques · 10/04/2018 14:46

I never understand why people have their children's names tattooed on their bodies, are you likely to forget them? And if so why have them done on your back where you can't see them?

Nicknacky · 10/04/2018 14:46

I think you are just looking for problems with her "behaviour "!

MonkeyPoke · 10/04/2018 14:46
  1. I expected a knife wielding sister-in-law
  2. YABU unless her children have written your children's names, in which case that would be weird and YANBU.

This!!! Please say she did this!

liminality · 10/04/2018 14:49

I know two people with this, and one who has a drawing done by his (then) infant daughter.
Maybe she didn't tell you cause not all of us rush around telling people when we get tattoos, especially personal ones.
And as PP said, it IS her brother, maybe its a nod to him too.

viques It's a homage, a permanent ode to love, drawn in the body, forever in the skin... not a reminder.

Alienspaceship · 10/04/2018 14:49

I’d be irritated too Op.

squoosh · 10/04/2018 14:49

So many SIL issues these days! Just roll your eyes and move on. Not worth getting het up about.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 10/04/2018 14:50

Aw, am very disappointed, I thought she was going to be a psycho who came in through the window with a scalpel and sliced his skin off, like in a scary fillum.

You sound a bit bonkers OP.

It's not "stealing" or "copying". It's having the same taste in stuff.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 10/04/2018 14:52

Her previous behaviour? What like going to a holiday resort that you've been to?

Unless you are a well-known island owning MNer etc, and she snuck out to it incognito, then I don't think that was being U either.

Perhaps you could drip feed tell us some more unreasonable things she's done?

PerfectPenquins · 10/04/2018 14:54

Yea there are loads of people with this kind of tattoo so by your idea your oh stole it from someone else.
She doesn't have to tell you what she does with her body you've lost the plot here.

PretABoire · 10/04/2018 14:54

Yep YABU. My best mate has copied two of my tattoos (same location and design but different colours), I find it pretty funny. Two of our other friends ended up getting one of them as well because they felt left out. Basically me and your DH are trendsetters flicks hair

Would you rather he has tattoos which are so shit that no one else would ever want them?

GetAwayFromHer · 10/04/2018 14:57

Jeremy Kyle would be on board with this one. I believe they pay?

CrispyCrackers · 10/04/2018 14:57

Why do you care and why would you care enough to be ‘extremely annoyed’ 🤷🏻‍♀️

AnnieAnoniMouser · 10/04/2018 14:58

She sounds like an annoying pain in the arse.

Send her a text message saying your DH has just done a cord free bungy jump off the local high bridge... 😂

Or start sending her a complete list of what you’ve both done & bought each day, when she asks why, just tell her you thought it would be easier for her to copy you than having to go looking herself.

I’d have to say something to her, it would drive me batshit. I’m not sure how you say ‘Stop fucking copying us!’ politely, but I think I’d be behind caring tbh.

Flatpackjackie · 10/04/2018 14:59

Loads of people have tattoos like that!

Not my cup of tea, but they are very popular.

FizzyGreenWater · 10/04/2018 14:59

Just start winding her up about it.

'SIL we're planning on going to Turkey this year, just to let you know so that you can start looking for next year in plenty of time.'

'SIL we're thinking of getting a cockatiel, just in case you want to start saving for a cage for when you get one too'

'SIL, DH is getting a tattoo of a giant ant on his forehead. Just so you can warn your friends in advance, because when you get your done it's going to look even more drastic - your forehead is a good bit smaller than his. Sorry, know it's not going to look great on you but needs must.'

VladmirsPoutine · 10/04/2018 14:59

Do you often have screaming matches with each other?
