To find floral tributes being left for Harry Vincent offensive

This is an attempt to intimidate the innocent family. Flowers should be removed - isn’t it littering?

Except it's not...only by people like yourself who love a bit of virtue signalling

Except it really really is. Nothing virtue signalling about it (nice try though, you can't just throw it in anywhere)

Mightymucks · 11/04/2018 11:15

The police have powers under the anti-social behaviour act to move on groups of people. If they’d used these powers in the first place to move the travelers along when they tried to assemble we could have avoided this situation.

Those powers have been used before when crowds assembled at the homes of alleged paedophiles or child abusers so I have no idea why they’re not being used now.

Well I do, it’s police (as per Rotherham, Rochdale etc, etc) choosing to suspend normal application of the law for a minority group.

Alpineflowers · 11/04/2018 11:16

Lweji -The mention of EDL was a reference to a group of non-travellers

But my point was that there are members of the EDL (who I do not support btw) who are travellers, there are even Black and Asian people who are members of the EDL.
People, in this country at least, have choices about who they choose to associate with. Groups, ideologies or religon, but that has nothing to do with 'race'.

Birdsgottafly - " I can see Vincent’s family trying to pull something like this."...

Who has said this? You seem to have mistakenly attributed this quote to me for some reason.

IntelligentYetIndecisive - I'm from an Irish Catholic background (similar to Travellers, but not the same)...

The people leaving the flowers are not Catholic or Irish Travellers

Mightymucks · 11/04/2018 11:16

frothy, I think the correct way to say it would be ‘it’s hell living amongst many/some’ traveller groups.

MidnightAura · 11/04/2018 11:17

How is it offensive to say living amongst travellers is hell? It is!

I’ve seen the mess they left behind the last time they came near to my town, I’ve seen crime rates rising and a huge increase in dogs been stolen at the same period they were there.

I’ve seen the damage they caused when they broke into the yard where my horse is kept and they made off with thousands of pounds worth of tack and tried to steal a trailer.

Of course they aren’t all bad, but let’s not pretend they bring joy and happiness to each site they rock up on.

Mightymucks · 11/04/2018 11:18

The people leaving the flowers are not Catholic or Irish Travellers

Who do you think they are then? Because they have identified themselves as his extended family which makes them both Irish travellers and Catholic. The cards have even made reference to his/their religion.

CupofFrothyCoffee · 11/04/2018 11:20

Except it really really is. Nothing virtue signalling about it (nice try though, you can't just throw it in anywhere)

You're just regurgitating other peoples words now. I'm out, very boring.

DownWithThatSortofTing · 11/04/2018 11:20

How is it offensive to say living amongst travellers is hell? It is!

Because you are talking about an entire community in a negative way, and in a way you would not dare do about any other ethnic group.

The people leaving the flowers are not Catholic or Irish Travellers

They are both Hmm

Alpineflowers · 11/04/2018 11:20

Mightymucks

They are English Romany. I tried to explain the difference in my initial post.

DownWithThatSortofTing · 11/04/2018 11:20

You're just regurgitating other peoples words now. I'm out, very boring

No, repeating my own words since you couldn't understand them the first time. Yes you are boring, so bye.

MidnightAura · 11/04/2018 11:21

I can’t think of any other ethnic group that behaves anti socially the way many (not all) do.

Alpineflowers · 11/04/2018 11:26

DownWithThatSortofTing - They are both

They are neither. As someone earlier in the thread said, people need to read up on the history and the difference between Irish Travellers and English Romany Gypsies

DownWithThatSortofTing · 11/04/2018 11:27

Btw that poor guy who is now in danger for taking down the flowers, filmed himself doing it and gave the video to the Daily Mail Hmm

Mightymucks · 11/04/2018 11:27

Aaaaaand the flowers are back up for the fourth time.

MysticMucks predicts they will be down again by tomorrow morning.

DownWithThatSortofTing · 11/04/2018 11:28

hey are neither. As someone earlier in the thread said, people need to read up on the history and the difference between Irish Travellers and English Romany Gypsies

Where are you getting that from, when every single media and local source is naming them as Travellers?

Mightymucks · 11/04/2018 11:28

Alpine, they are not English Romani gypsies they are Irish travellers. I have lived locally and the travellers from Star Lane are Irish Catholic travellers.

Alpineflowers · 11/04/2018 11:33

I think the police will be seriously considering ways to intervene now.
They might consider there is 'likely to be a breech of the peace'. This does not mean that anyone is in the wrong. It is a preventative measure. They can remove people from the situation, but without any criminal charges being brought.

TSSDNCOP · 11/04/2018 11:35

As the police are saying they cannot intervene because no law has been broken, it’s inaccurate to call the flower taker-downers vigilantes.

Alpineflowers · 11/04/2018 11:36

Mightymucks

I am sorry but you are wrong. The press have named some of the family and friends and without posting too much detail, the names are very typically English Romany.

Alpineflowers · 11/04/2018 11:39

TSSDNCOP

If the situation escalates, they can remove people to prevent crime.
In a similar way , the police can also enter your house without a warrant, if they believe a crime is being committed in your home or about to be committed

Creambun2 · 11/04/2018 11:39

All these people being apologists for awful behaviour by many travellers probably have zero experience of living near a site. But hey champagne socialist behaviour on mn is hardly new.

FailingMotherhood · 11/04/2018 11:41

It's racist to say that it's always hell when Travellers visit an area, as a generalisation.

It's not racist to say that one's own experience with Travellers has been uniformly negative. For example, every time Travellers visit my area, they leave a huge amount of rubbish and human waste, block businesses from operating and attempt to steal their stuff, there's an increase in burglaries, antisocial behaviour and violent crime (with pubs being advised to close by the police), dogs go missing (and, in one horrible case, one was found dead by the camp after they'd left - a few months old spaniel puppy that had been stolen a few days previously).

In a different area, my mother was targeted and conned out of hundreds by a traveller who persuaded her that he was a reputable gardener, and he harassed her each time his group rolled through town. The green next to my brother's house was covered in rubbish and filth.

It's hard for your heart not to sink when you see a load of caravans going down the road to the local park, knowing that it's going to be a no-go area for days, unless you want to be verbally abused, sexy ally harassed, and worrying about your dog, or your bike, and knowing that your council tax is being spent on the council sending in their environmental health team to clear up human shit amongst the rest of the rubbish.

I don't see why it can't be made law for the police to able to evict them straight away from illegal camps, whether it's on private or public land. We have a local traveller camp site, but they'd rather rock up on our parks, greens, commons, car parks and industrial estates.

TSSDNCOP · 11/04/2018 11:42

Alpine I’m truly impressed with your knowledge on all things related to this thread.
