Pretty much what my title says? Who else cuts grass at this time? It's 7pm my son's bedtime and the elderly neighbour has only decided to cut the grass when she has had all day?
It's so loud!

YABU - 7pm is fine to be cutting the grass. We are often mowing at that time as we don't get home from work/afterschool clubs until 6.30/6.50pm of a weekday evening and if not working on a weekend, we'll be out and about with DC.

What time would you suggest is 'reasonable', as PPs have also posted about nightshift/shift workers, napping babies, people who work from home etc who all may be disturbed at all hours of the day. Unfortunately it's life, and goes hand in hand with not living in a huge house in the middle of nowhere (I most certainly will be off in search of said property when I'm rich enough)

LeighaJ · 07/04/2018 20:01

"Luckily, we also have mosquitoes, so no lawn mowing in the evening."

I've never personally felt grateful for disease carrying bloodsuckers. Each to their own. 😂

Springiscoming123 · 07/04/2018 20:02

i cut mine last weekend (surprised the mower didnt blow up it was so thick) rain all week and has grown loads and have cut again today

were far south

treaclesoda · 07/04/2018 20:04

7pm is standard lawn mowing time where I live. 7am might raise a few eyebrows but anything from 8am to 9pm would be unremarkable.

SamandDean · 07/04/2018 20:04

Oh, so you’re one of those mums.........

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 07/04/2018 20:05

WeAllHaveWings

I didn’t know any of that! Thank you. Any advice for a garden that’s always wet??

Katyb1310 · 07/04/2018 20:06

I'd say it's absolutely fine. I used to love going to sleep to the sound of a lawn mower when I was little. It's quite a soothing noise.

ferrier · 07/04/2018 20:10

What is the point in mowing grass yet? It hasn't had time to start actually growing as it hasn't been warm enough

Mine's been cut about four times already this year and it's still looking shaggy.

Anything while it's still light seems reasonable to me for the evening. Maybe 8am/9am for morning.

somersetsoul · 07/04/2018 20:11

I'm going against the grain and thinks its too late! 4pm is the latest I do mine, my neighbours are afternoon mowers too!

VeganCow · 07/04/2018 20:14

People get into ththe habit of mowing late, and watering pots etc. . I do it. In summer you’re not meant to when full sun beating down

Bubblysqueak · 07/04/2018 20:17

Mine are in desperate needed of a cut, she's more than welcome to come and do my any time she likes !

willstarttomorrow · 07/04/2018 20:20

It is just getting home from work time! YABU

happy2bhomely · 07/04/2018 20:21

Not too late at all. I'd say 9am-9pm would be reasonable. 8am-10pm still wouldn't be completely taking the piss. Before 7am or after 11pm would be ridiculous and I would complain.

I love that you think your son's bedtime means anything to any of your neighbours! I like to nap at 3pm. Should I complain about all the noise the school kids make coming home? My little ones sometimes sleep in past 9am. Should I be annoyed when the postman knocks? Don't they know we are trying to sleep!

BrendasUmbrella · 07/04/2018 20:22

My charming neighbours are kicking off their nightly motorbike party right now. It could be worse...

TheJoyOfSox · 07/04/2018 20:23

7pm is a perfectly reasonable time for your neighbour to mow her lawn.

How do you know she/he has had all day? Most people are busy with shopping, laundry, housework and maybe visiting parents on a Saturday, I doubt your neighbour has sat on her arse waiting for you to put your kids to bed.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 07/04/2018 20:23

How inconsiderate of your neighbours to not plan their lives around your child's bedtime.

Personalsituations99 · 07/04/2018 20:24

Night shift worker here....
I really much prefer they cut it at 7pm😂

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 07/04/2018 20:24

My grass is badly in need of a cut but it just hasn’t been dry enough. At 7pm my DD and her mates were out in the garden with some beers playing giant jenga! I expect the OP wouldnt approve of our perfectly normal and legal use of our garden!

huginamugwankinapacket · 07/04/2018 20:29

Fine to cut grass in the evening, the world doesn't revolve around people with kids.

Mum2jenny · 07/04/2018 20:30

I tend to cut my grass before dark, but have been known to cut it when I've needed floodlights (only when desperate though!)

londonrach · 07/04/2018 20:31

B est time to cut grass. Its cooler. Yabu

extinctspecies · 07/04/2018 20:32

YABU - I asked DS to mow the lawns at this time yesterday. First cut of the year & it's hard to find a time when its not raining!

7 pm is perfectly reasonable. If you don't like it, move somewhere where you've got no neighbours.

Iceweasel · 07/04/2018 20:34

YABU

It's light at 7pm this time of year. Shift workers and kids who have a daytime nap are asleep in the day. Anytime between 7am and 8pm on weekdays, 8am to 8pm on weekends I would consider to be perfectly acceptable.

huginamugwankinapacket · 07/04/2018 20:35

It's like those bastard icecream men that come around at bedtime :D haha, they are annoying but they have every right to come then!

typcast · 07/04/2018 20:37

My DP just got in from cutting the grass a couple of hours ago - was thinking we'd committed a big faux par when I read the OP but pleased to see not all are in agreement! We have been out all day and it was the first time the grass wasn't wet / covered in snow this year!
