Price of coke in Asda

noenergy · 07/04/2018 15:10

Last week I bought 18 tins for £4.15.

Today I popped in and has to check prices again as they were £8 for 10 tins or £10 for 24 tins. I couldn't believe it. Sugar tax or whatever it was certainly stopped me from buying it.

I'm thinking the labels were wrong? I did read them to check quantity and price.

I’m going to get my husband to bring me a coke on his way home to see what I’m missing Grin

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 07/04/2018 17:52

I’m sick of this. I don’t drink alcohol apart from a very rare Baileys and I don’t want to be drinking water all the time or sugar free crap. Nearly every drink has been ruined now as the manufacturers are taking out the sugar.

I will happily pay extra so I can have a decent drink, thankfully Belvoir cordial is still lovely and sugary!

jamoncrumpets · 07/04/2018 17:52

My local shop sells Mexican Coca Cola, it's cheap as chips and bloody AMAZING. I hope nobody reports them!

italiancortado · 07/04/2018 17:55

Costa and Starbucks are awful for high sugar. I don’t understand people that drink it every day

I drink it every day. I have a skinny cap/latte/Americano.

The hi sugar in these places comes from the nasty syrups that people choose to have in there normal coffees:

italiancortado · 07/04/2018 17:56

*their normal coffee Blush

NameChanger22 · 07/04/2018 18:01

I love a can of Pepsi Max.

Some people won't be happy until we're all living on carrot sticks and water. I don't want to live until I'm 90, what's the point, I don't have a pension anyway. I'd rather live a slightly shorter but more enjoyable life.

Nanny state.

NameChanger22 · 07/04/2018 18:02

And I don't drink, smoke or take drugs. How else am I going to kill myself off early?

soulrider · 07/04/2018 18:03

I paid 8p per 100ml in Lidl yesterday for 4 bottles of coke. Same price as pre-sugar tax so far.

LolitaLempicka · 07/04/2018 18:03

Iamyourequal seeing as it is short for ‘tin can’ I would imagine many people do.

jamoncrumpets · 07/04/2018 18:04

Pepsi Max has no sugar though Confused

NotUmbongoUnchained · 07/04/2018 18:04

So is the sugar tax going on all drinks? Like j20 and san Pellegrino etc?

NameChanger22 · 07/04/2018 18:05

Yeah, I don't like full fat coke, I prefer chemicals.

jamoncrumpets · 07/04/2018 18:08

There's no fat in Coke either. Confused

jamoncrumpets · 07/04/2018 18:09

J20 is already full of sweeteners. It's GRIM.

soulrider · 07/04/2018 18:09

J2O introduced sweeteners some years ago now, so probably aren't subject to the sugar tax. Heard someone mention that San Pellegrino are also adding sweeteners to reduce sugar content.

I don't care about the tax, I don't consume enough that it's going to impact financially, but pissed off about being denied the choice to buy drinks without sweeteners.

NameChanger22 · 07/04/2018 18:11

Person A lives an unhealthy lifestyle which includes 30 cans of coke a week, fatty foods and alcohol and dies at 65 costing the country £xxxxx amount in NHS care.

Person B lives a very healthy life and lives to 95 costing the country £xxxxxxx amount in pensions and adult social care.

Person A costs us a lot less.

Fanciedachange1 · 07/04/2018 18:12

Name changer, carrot sticks and water won't guarentee a longer life! I am in agreement with you, if it isn't hurting others then where's the harm in making your own decisions about what to eat and drink?

mrscee · 07/04/2018 18:16

Sat here drinking my Pepsi max which clearly states on the side no sugar. Just to be controversial we buy it in packs of 24 and drink it when we are thirsty!

Roussette · 07/04/2018 18:20

Person A who is obese suffers from diabetes, heart problems, joint problems - needs hip and knee replacements, angiograms, constant visits to Doctors, kidney problems etc etc

There is no rhyme nor reason to how a person might be.

RedForFilth · 07/04/2018 18:21

This annoys the life out of me. I don't drink alcohol, or tea, or coffee. People can merrily have their teas and coffees with umpteen spoons of sugar without any interferance, but heave forbid I want a can of coke or a glass of diluting juice that's not full of artificial sweeteners This!!!
It's so wierd. Nearly everyone I work with drinks tea or coffee all day. I drink water and sometimes a can of pepsi max. As soon as that can gets seen someone makes a comment.

It's like people think they're superior for not drinking pop. So wierd.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 07/04/2018 18:22

I don’t drink tea or coffee and I once got told off for making someone feel uncomfortable in their own home because they didn’t know what to give me!

Jaxhog · 07/04/2018 18:22

It's nothing to do with the sugar tax ()which isn't anything like this much). It's just the usual spike and dyke pricing.

MissTeri · 07/04/2018 18:23

It's like people think they're superior for not drinking pop. So wierd.

THIS! I tend to find those who get sniffy over people drinking coke are the ones who drink alcohol like fish and post all over Facebook about it being Wine O'Clock as soon as the kids are in bed.

chimpandzee · 07/04/2018 18:26

Notumbongo not all drinks no, there are 2 tax bands depending on the amount of sugar per 100 ml - sugar content above 5g per 100 millilitres will be taxed at 18p per litre and drinks above 8g per 100 millilitres at 24p per litre.

AliTheMinx · 07/04/2018 18:29

I just came back from Sainsburys. I knew about the sugar tax but was really surprised at the hike in price - far more than I thought it would be. I much prefer full-fat Coke but actually decided to buy Pepsi Max instead (which was on offer), so possibly the sugar tax will make me stop and think a little more in future. I know I need to cut down on sugar, do maybe this will be the boost I need...
