There was a thread similar to this a while back that I can't find now but I promise I'm not a copy cat troll!

Last night i noticed that the loft hatch was open in the babies room. I definitely didn't do it, OH says he didn't do it. The cupboard under the TV where the electric and wifi box are was open yesterday, again, neither of us had opened it.
I called the police to report this last night and explained that I'm often alone with an 8 week old baby and that the house is really not secure (rental). Their next steps were to raise with their team manager and to contact me within 24 hours if they felt they needed to take it further, put it on record if not. Presumably this would be useful when I've been murdered in my sleep but whatever.
I've called the lettings agent who would get someone round to look at the locks that aren't locking.
I've heard nothing back from either. My life has no value clearly.

I've been blamed twice in the last fortnight for leaving a poo in the toilet by OH when I definitely, definitely haven't. Clothes have gone missing presumed lost somewhere and the wifi speed has dropped significantly over the last few weeks.

I'm concerned.

I have a CCTV style baby monitor that wasn't being used that I've set up in the living room to monitor anyone getting in which I thought was a pretty genius idea but forgot that you can talk the other way too. Tonight I'm pretty sure someone was talking through it. OH is working away but swears that it wasn't him. I need to be brave enough to get close enough to unplug it now.

There is access through the lofts from the other houses and only one key was given from the lettings agent so presumably another key is somewhere else out there. I can always hear footsteps from the houses either side of me which used to be reassuring when I was by myself. NOT ANY MORE!

Tomorrow I'm permanently closing both loft hatches, changing all locks and learning self defence. In the meantime help me get through the night. What can I do to make it as safe as I can? or channel Kevin from Home Alone And can I do anything on the wifi to see if someone else has signed up to mine?

I was a lot braver in the daylight...

I've got my baby asleep on me and I don't think she'll be much use if I'm confronted.

blimey Op!

Can you do anythign to block the loft hatch overnight?

Are you alone, is your dh working?

QuiteLikely5 · 05/04/2018 22:46

Call the police, tell them you are home alone with a baby and can hear noise in your loft

It’s likely they will send someone round

If I was you I would have done a runner long before now

WishingOnABar · 05/04/2018 22:47

You can log in to your own router online to see what devices are connected, google ‘login router “provider name”’ to get the address - For example for talk talk it is 192.168.1.1

RedHelenB · 05/04/2018 22:47

Book a hotel!

Userplusnumbers · 05/04/2018 22:47

You can Google the model of your broadband box and it'll tell you how to get into the settings so you can see what's connected. You can usually kick devices off and change the password.

I'd consider actually just staying somewhere else tonight though!

user1494667160 · 05/04/2018 22:47

I would call the police and say you suspect someone is in the house. Let them look in the loft etc.

RedHelenB · 05/04/2018 22:47

Please don't waste any more police time though.

lecossaise · 05/04/2018 22:47

Terrifying! Please (get someone to) check there's no one asleep in the loft before you permanently close the hatches though...

MrsTylerJoseph · 05/04/2018 22:48

Eeek!

Do you know the neighbours at all?

Can you get a friend to stay? Or stay at a friend or hotel?

user1494667160 · 05/04/2018 22:48

I would also consider staying elsewhere.
Call the police - it is better to be safe than sorry especially with a baby in the house.

Queenio24 · 05/04/2018 22:48

Bloody hell!
Sorry no useful suggestions but keep all lights on and a mobile to hand.

SoupyNorman · 05/04/2018 22:48

Jaysus

Littleredboat · 05/04/2018 22:48

Fuck that. Police or Travelodge.

user1494667160 · 05/04/2018 22:49

How is she wasting police time???

RunMummyRun68 · 05/04/2018 22:49

Why didn't you deal with this today before nightfall?

I find that odd

honeysucklejasmine · 05/04/2018 22:49

Eeeeee creepy. I'd go stay with a friend tonight.

1happyhippie · 05/04/2018 22:49

All sounds pretty scary op.
If you genuinely think someone's in your house you need to call the police.
if the baby monitor is freaking you out more, unplug it for now.
Do you have anyone you can call to pop round?

Xmasbaby11 · 05/04/2018 22:50

I'd be Off.

Flobalob · 05/04/2018 22:50

I'd head to a hotel for the night or put something really heavy against your own bedroom door!

Eggzandbacon · 05/04/2018 22:50

Can you baraccade yourself in your room for the night?

RunMummyRun68 · 05/04/2018 22:51

Rationally thinking..... someone using the loo/WiFi and clothes

No food missing?
How is this loft dweller charging their phone? Is your loft boarded?

SoupyNorman · 05/04/2018 22:52

If you really think someone is getting into your house, why on earth are you staying there with an 8 week old baby?

dejectedharry · 05/04/2018 22:52

I'd have to leave and I'd probably take my router with me. If I can't use it the cheeky bastard that's leaving a sneaky poo in the loo can't either.

BigBairyHollocks · 05/04/2018 22:52

Flip I would be crapping myself-def call the police to come and look, how could you possibly sleep worrying all night!

NellythePink · 05/04/2018 22:53

Travelodge or friend/family house tonight

Tomorrow, get an army of people round to search your house, including the loft

New padlock on the loft, change the locks, anything you need to do to feel safe

If anything happens after that, police
