Totally prepared to be told I AIBU and I know it's a first world problem but my DF purchased DP and I a £100 voucher for Marco Pierre whites steakhouse for us to treat ourselves due to me being in and out of hospital since the beginning of December with abnormal cells found on cervix turning out to be CGIN and other issues with my womb.
We finally got around to booking last night to kind of celebrate the end of a shitty few months and I've only just read the small print. It expired on 31st March Sad
I called the restaurant to ask kindly if they would mind extending it due to circumstances the women that answered was kind and said that would be fine if I could send proof of results and hospital appointments (which I was happy to do.)
She's then gone of and spoken to the manager and manager has said point blank said no I should of told them this while it was going on. They now have £100 of my DF money and we have no amazing food Sad
We've been a few times previously and I loved it, that's why he bought it.
So AIBU in thinking they could of extended it for extra 2 weeks? I know it's my fault for not reading the small print.

Yanbu. Tossers.

All this goes to show is that they are mean. Amazon vouchers last for about 20 years. It would be in their benefit for them to last longer surely?

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 04/04/2018 19:07

I'd definitely tweet, initially politely about the voucher and request to have it extended due to medical appointments, and if no joy, then ask why the fuck they thought out acceptable to take copies of private medical information before saying no.

KizzyBear · 04/04/2018 19:07

Everything is hopefully ok now I go back in 6 months which fingers crossed I get the all clear. We had a crappy time over Christmas and new year when waiting for results and treatment in February and 6 weeks (more like 8 🙄) recovery time. This was going to be our 'new year' as such.

A restaurant manager asked to inspect your recent medical history before deciding whether or not to be kind, and they still weren't kind Shock. That's so awful. Really dreadful behaviour.

AntiHop · 04/04/2018 19:08

That's awful customer service and very petty.

MadMags · 04/04/2018 19:08

What’s CGIN?! Hope you’re properly on the mend. Flowers

I really, truly think you should tweet about it. And I don’t care that he’s a prick, I’d tweet him too!

Storminateapot · 04/04/2018 19:08

Because obviously when going through treatment for cancer one's first thought is the expiry date on a gift voucher. FFS!

I think it's a massive intrusion to request proof of your medical condition in the first place. It's not as if this is a freebie you're trying to wangle, they've kept £100 of your family's hard-earned money and given you nothing. And you're only a few days over, it's not like you left it until August.

Definitely take th

...this further.

MadMags · 04/04/2018 19:10

It doesn’t matter that you’ve only a couple of followers. Follow them and MPW so you can tweet them. If you share the link here, we’ll all retweet!

KizzyBear · 04/04/2018 19:10

I was totally happy to email them appointment letters in case they thought I was pulling a fast one. I can't fault the women originally that answered the phone as she was so apologetic and I can imagine cringing at her managers decision not to extend.

NellMangel · 04/04/2018 19:10

Tweet on their page and their followers see it as well as your six fans!

Or email head office. It was wrong to ask to see medical information, and petty to not allow a few days grace.

Whatdoiladymcbeth · 04/04/2018 19:10

Tweet them!

Greedy bastards.

68Anon · 04/04/2018 19:11

Similar thing happened to friends. Her parents bought them a voucher for MPW for a significant birthday gift. Friends decided to arrange a week-end away in London and use the voucher there. Friend booked the restaurant but it was the Friday the UK had heavy snow so unfortunately they couldn't get to London from Cardiff as trains and Megabus were both cancelled. The voucher expired on the following Monday so they called asking if it could be extended.
Initially, they were told no, not our fault you couldn't get to London, the restaurant was open so we could have served you. Friend did complain in email and eventually got an extension on the voucher.

Loveanamechange · 04/04/2018 19:11

A similar thing happened to me, I had to cancel a non refundable hotel stay because of emergency treatment for cancer.

Called up and was given short shrift by one employee. So called head office and explained to complaints manager. My reservation was immediately changed.

Call Head Office, tweet the company, and don’t take no for an answer

canibefirst · 04/04/2018 19:11

Anyone else hoping the wanker Daily Mail journos are looking for a story for once?

iTonya · 04/04/2018 19:11

Three months seems like a pretty short expiry time if it's not a Groupon deal.

KizzyBear · 04/04/2018 19:11

DF has said he purchased straight through Marcos, as I've said previously he knows how much I love the place we've been a few times I didn't think it was possible to fall in love with food but its amazing Blush

Bumbumtaloo · 04/04/2018 19:12

KizzyBear it doesn’t usually matter how many followers you have when you tweet a big name/company. I only have about 20 followers and only ever use Twitter to complain, still seem to get things resolved though.

Hope things improve for you soon Flowers

Unihorn · 04/04/2018 19:13

I'm a restaurant manager and that is fucking disgusting. I would very politely email the restaurant directly stating how disappointed you are and give them one more chance to not be pricks before writing the same on their Facebook page. No doubt people will see and share on Facebook and they will likely change their tune. And I say that as someone who deals with people using social media "against" me on a daily basis over petty shit.

KizzyBear · 04/04/2018 19:13

I must admit I fully expecting to be flamed! I thought I was going to called greedy Grin

NapQueen · 04/04/2018 19:14

Vouchers bought direct from MPW last 6months.

lattewith3shotsplease · 04/04/2018 19:14

OP,
Do not let them get away with this.Angry

Figgygal · 04/04/2018 19:15

Complain away!!
If you can't do twitter Facebook them publically I'd say shame them although after that I'd probably not want to go anyway for fear of them spitting in my food

ziggiestardust · 04/04/2018 19:15

That is disgraceful OP. Get on Twitter, link to it here and I’ll re tweet for sure. Hopefully other posters will too? You poor thing, that’s absolutely shocking service.

Nix32 · 04/04/2018 19:16

www.vouchermine.co.uk/Marco-Pierre-White-Restaurants/Gift-Vouchers/100-Gift-Voucher?l=en Definitely says valid for 6 months.
