Baby name camilla?

Aibu to think that this is a gorgeous and underused name?
I imagine a beautiful, sophisticated woman, camilla.
Or am I being entirely unreasonable that this would be a good name for a little girl born in 2018, and my hormones have done something to my mind?

Only one face comes to mind...

Marcipex · 30/03/2018 22:36

It's a lovely name.

NewYearNewMe18 · 30/03/2018 22:36

It's a lovely name.

Be prepared for the Republican Onslaught though!

SunnyCoco · 30/03/2018 22:37

Ooooo following as I’m having the exact same dilemma! Nickname Millie is cute too

Shipshapeit · 30/03/2018 22:38

I know juells.
But I just think would people not see my (potential as team yellow) future beautiful daughter and she would own the name? Rather than associate it with a middle aged royal?

Well I imagine there will be lots of Camillas now because of Camilla Cabello.

It's ok as a name but it does remind me of the woman who wanted to be Prince Charles' trousers.

pieceofpurplesky · 30/03/2018 22:38

I was at university with two camillas - one with nn cammi and one milla. Cute

Deshasafraisy · 30/03/2018 22:39

Nice name, might get shortened to milly which is also nice so win win. I like it

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 30/03/2018 22:40

I would go for Camille instead, because although I really like it, the association is just too strong. It now smacks of middle aged horse for me.

BUT if YOU love it, who cares what anyone else thinks?!

Luckingfovely · 30/03/2018 22:40

It's a great name. Individuals do grow into their own names.

DramaAlpaca · 30/03/2018 22:40

I tbink it's a beautiful name.

SoftSheen · 30/03/2018 22:41

One of my best friends is called Camilla. She's a lovely person, and Camilla is a lovely name.

implantsandaDyson · 30/03/2018 22:41

I think it's a beautiful name, always have done. It wouldn't make me think of the Royal family, they rarely cross my thoughts at the best of times Grin. It really is a lovely name.

Shipshapeit · 30/03/2018 22:41

Lac - camila cabello is spelt with one l, so is pronounced ca meal a rather than cam ill a.
I actually like both, but you raise a point that it could be confusing if people pronounce it wrong because of lots of camilas.

Winegumaddict · 30/03/2018 22:43

Lovely name. I think there are lots of potential shortenings if that's your thing or a beautiful name as it is.

SuperBeagle · 30/03/2018 22:43

I like the name, but think it's very heavily linked with Camilla Parker-Bowles in the UK. It's a bit like Diana - usable elsewhere but not so much in the UK.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 30/03/2018 22:43

This! ^^. Lovely name.

Viviennemary · 30/03/2018 22:46

It could be a nice name but it is forever tainted with association with Mrs parker Bowles.

Fruitcorner123 · 30/03/2018 22:47

My experience having had a baby recently is don't ask mumsnet because you will get a mix of answers and it will probably confuse you or make you question your decisions

You love the name, if your DP is in agreement then who cares what mumsnet thinks.

Mumbun · 30/03/2018 22:48

Really gorgeous name. Yes, I always think it sounds very elegant too. You could do worse than have the same name as Camilla P-B... she's a fucking legend.

Shipshapeit · 30/03/2018 22:49

Do people think that the association will live on with camilla Parker Bowles?
I’m not quite 30 and I only just remember the scanadals from the 90s. Perhaps why I don’t have negative associations with the name.
By the time my baby is at school surely that generation will be oblivious to camilla, she isn’t a high profile figure (I appreciate that could change when Charles becomes king however).

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/03/2018 22:51

I think it’s a nice name

Whatever you name your child there will be someone that think it’s common/pretentious/chavy/so last year/too connected to religion/old fashioned/will feel sorry for your child having that name/boring and so on

bonnielies0verthe0cean · 30/03/2018 22:54

It makes me think of Love Island...

(But that season will have been forgotten by the time your dd is at school anyway)

Shipshapeit · 30/03/2018 22:55

This is it bonnie it’s how relevant it will be to her generation.
I really believe people become the name, and if she is anything like my ds she would own it anyway whatever we call her.
But I don’t want to saddle her with something that her peers would ridicule her for.
It’s such a responsibility choosing a name....

RestingButchFace · 30/03/2018 22:56

Beautiful name and any stupid connotations will not even be on the radar to your daughter's peers. I think it has such a lovely soft sound but at the same time being a strong name.
