Baby name camilla?

Shipshapeit · 30/03/2018 22:35

Aibu to think that this is a gorgeous and underused name?
I imagine a beautiful, sophisticated woman, camilla.
Or am I being entirely unreasonable that this would be a good name for a little girl born in 2018, and my hormones have done something to my mind?

Resting- Teenwolf (he's the very nice looking pack leader) but yes, I think of Grey's Anatomy too. The name may well make a come-back. :)

T1M2N3T4 · 31/03/2018 08:48

My first thought was chummy from call the midwife as that character is camilla. I'm nearly 30 and I didn't think of parker-bowles so I wouldn't worry.

papayasareyum · 31/03/2018 08:54

I don’t know why it’s bad for people to think of Camilla Parker Bowles when they hear the name Camilla. I don’t think people dislike her. She’s a strong, confident woman and didn’t steal Charles at all. He should never have married Diana.

Shipshapeit · 31/03/2018 09:05

Papaya you make a good point there.
All I know about what happened with those three is that she and Charles were together first and he was pushed into marrying Diana. Horrible situation for all three.
But cpb didn’t sell her granny, or start a world war which you’d think when you see some people’s reaction to her! I don’t really know why she’s that unpopular.
I still really like the name, and it doesn’t have that association for me, although I understand it might for people a bit older. But really even if they do think of her when they hear the name, when they see a cute baby, little girl, lovely young woman I think they would quickly lose that.
That’s the girls name sorted.... now for boys....

I've always liked the name, and it has the bonus of not being very popular.
Loads of shortening potential - I know a Milly and a Mila.
I don't think you should worry about any association with CPB. Everyone I know who meets her says how lovely she is.

Shednik · 31/03/2018 11:53

It's a beautiful name but unfortunately one that's almost caricature upper class - like Araminta or Crispin. I wouldn't use in case assumptions were made about my dc.

pandarific · 31/03/2018 12:12

I knew a Camilla recently - honestly it was just her name. When you say it out loud out of context of course you think of CP-B, but not in real life when you meet someone called it.

It's a nice name imo.

Tainbri · 31/03/2018 12:28

It's a great name and I love Milly for short. There are loads of people called Elizabeth or Charlotte out there and they're not seen as uber posh so not quite sure what people's issue is with Camilla, in fact right now I think more of sassy and cool young singer!!

Shednik · 31/03/2018 12:41

Elizabeth and Charlotte are less exclusively upper class imo. You'd find them in all social classes.

Choccywoccyhooha · 31/03/2018 12:50

Lovely name.

Shipshapeit · 31/03/2018 12:50

Oh no I hadn’t thought of this, we definitely aren’t upper class. Both of us are working class background. We have done ok in terms of university educated with 30000+ salaries (mine slightly reduded due to pt hours), but we always regard ourselves as working class, plodding along, average family.
I’d worry that people may Hear her name and think I’m like hyacinth bucket if so many people associate the name with the upper classes!

Nice name. The Duchess of Cornwall will be dead - or at least very old -by the time she grows up and won't mean a thing to her generation.

Letloose · 31/03/2018 13:07

I think it’s beautiful! All 3 of my children have very unusual names and not to everyone’s taste but me and my husband loved them so that’s all that matters. And the children pull off their names completely

Bambamber · 31/03/2018 13:08

I personally think that people that don't know your child may make associations when they hear the name, but anyone that knows your child will only associate the name with your child, it would just be seen as her name (if that makes sense)

Follyfoot · 31/03/2018 13:10

I wouldn't use it. At some point CPB will be 'whatever they are going to call her which isn't the word queen' so will be higher profile and that name will be even more associated with her.

dingdongdigeridoo · 31/03/2018 13:38

I’d probably go for Camille instead. Camilla does conquer up a certain unflattering image I’m afraid.

Mightymucks · 31/03/2018 13:41

I went to school with a Camilla. She was super posh and very horsey and I’ve always thought it was a name you should stay away from if not truly super posh because it comes across as a bit try hard otherwise. Camille is nice.

SerenDippitty · 31/03/2018 13:56

I would go for Camille instead, because although I really like it, the association is just too strong. It now smacks of middle aged horse for me.

I think Camille is a male name in France.

SerenDippitty · 31/03/2018 13:59

Or perhaps it 's both but I've definitely read about a man called Camille who had something to do with the French Revolution.

DameDoom · 31/03/2018 14:05

I think Camilla is a lovely. classical name and IMO is totally timeless. I don't think it's too posh at all.

TerfsUp · 31/03/2018 14:10

Lovely name.

onehundrethnamechange · 31/03/2018 14:15

I love it. But then I maybe biased as it is my name....

For what it's worth, I've loved growing up with it. I am neither posh nor middle class. My parents were hardworking council estate people who chose it simply because they thought it was a beautiful name. And the odd person referring to a certain CPB (mainly back in the camillagate days) has never bothered me that much. I hardly ever have it shortened, my dad used to occasionally call me Millie, my ex husband sometimes referred to me as C (hated) but 99% of the time I am just Camilla. And I loved having a very underused, uncommon name and being the only Camilla at school Smile

Tiredofit · 31/03/2018 14:22

My friends daughter-in-law is Camilla . My friend insists on pronouncing it to rhyme with Pamela which drives me mad. It is a lovely name when properly pronounced.

QuimReaper · 31/03/2018 14:24

Camellia is also lovely. We have friends who have named their daughter that, I've never met another.

VeronicaLodge · 31/03/2018 14:29

Camilla is a horsey, sloaney kind of name.

Camellia, like the flower, is much nicer.
