Baby name camilla?

Aibu to think that this is a gorgeous and underused name?
I imagine a beautiful, sophisticated woman, camilla.
Or am I being entirely unreasonable that this would be a good name for a little girl born in 2018, and my hormones have done something to my mind?

Lovely name - I went to school with one.
At my age (38) I automatically think C P-B but your daughter's generation won't have those connotations.

RestingButchFace · 30/03/2018 22:59

Plus the nicknames are all lovely, Milly, Milla,Cam or Cammie/Cami

MadameMaxGoesler · 30/03/2018 23:00

At medias inter caedes exsultat Amazon,
unum exserta latus pugnae, pharetrata Camilla,

Shipshapeit · 30/03/2018 23:02

Madame English please??

MadameMax Grin There was a time when I'd have been able to read that!

I'd quite forgotten the original Camilla until now, due to CPB, so well done there.

MadameMaxGoesler · 30/03/2018 23:07

Dryden version:
"Resistless thro' the war Camilla rode,
In danger unappall'd, and pleas'd with blood.
One side was bare for her exerted breast;"
Very different from our soon to be Dear Queen.

Shipshapeit · 30/03/2018 23:07

Jamie explain please - I don’t know what the Foreign reference means....
is it a good one?

It's a quote from the Aeneid (I think) about Camilla the mythological figure.

MadameMaxGoesler · 30/03/2018 23:10

JamieVardy a classical education is never wasted.

LadyGAgain · 30/03/2018 23:10

Not read the thread. Camilla is gorgeous.

RestingButchFace · 30/03/2018 23:11

Madame That Camilla sounds awesome!

Nomorechickens · 30/03/2018 23:11

Camilla PB is not much in the news now but she may be more prominent when Charles becomes king, and that may affect public perception of the name. Which i agree is a lovely name.

PuntCuffin · 30/03/2018 23:13

I was at school with several Camillas. And for various reasons, the PBs were closely associated from a work perspective. I would still consider it as just a name, and say, if you love it, use it.

Theimpossiblegirl · 30/03/2018 23:13

I love it, it's on DD's baby name list with Mila for short (she's 15 so I'm hoping it will be a few years before she uses it- she also has Dove and Aria for girls and Derek for a boy :) ).

MadameMaxGoesler · 30/03/2018 23:15

OP, apologies for mucking about, but the relevance of my posts is that there is a fantastic warrior princess Camilla in classical mythology, described in Vergil's Aeneid. So it would be quite a feminist choice of name.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 30/03/2018 23:18

I mostly use it for crosswords composed by somewhat pretentious compilers, tbh, Madame.

PinguForPresident · 30/03/2018 23:19

I used it. Mine is 12 now and still goes by Milly or Milla.

I love it. Milly is a great name for a little girl, with the option of switching to the more formal Camilla as she gets older.

MadameMaxGoesler · 30/03/2018 23:24

RestingButchFace
She's cool. Much better than whinging Dido. Though to ensure the male narrative of inconvenient women they both have to die.

RestingButchFace · 30/03/2018 23:29

Madame Classics is a huge hole in my knowledge, something I need to address. Such a shame that male narrative continues to this day.

RestingButchFace · 30/03/2018 23:32

TheImpossile I love your dd's names but where did Derek come from?

UnicornRainbowColours · 30/03/2018 23:38

I looked after a little baby/girl called Kamilla I really like it.

UnRavellingFast · 30/03/2018 23:39

Grey's Anatomy?

UnRavellingFast · 30/03/2018 23:40

Re Derek btw!

bellabasset · 30/03/2018 23:55

Oddly enough I wouldn't think of the Duchess of Cornwall when the name Camilla is mentioned. I tend to think of camelia which is a beautiful flower, which I love to see flowering from Dec onwards.

So for me it's a perfect and beautiful flower

Katjolo · 31/03/2018 00:01

Nice name
