Yes. This is true. I don't know what the answer is here I was just trying to flag that sometimes it becomes a little too uncomfortable on here when not needed.

Personally I think we'd all be better off if social media didn't exist at all. I have no idea how I would have coped if it had been around when I was a teenager.

Mumofkids · 31/03/2018 20:51

@isaidiwastired I agree completely and with teens it is often a nightmare.

mrscampbellblackreturns · 31/03/2018 20:52

I like social media but am very aware of being sold too as know people in that industry.

I would never begrudge anyone with entrepreneurial spirit as long as they abide by the rules.

And the reason people 'bitch' on here is because no negativity/questions are ever allowed on the squares.

laurahill88 · 31/03/2018 20:53

I really enjoy social media but do agree life would be easier without it. I’d get a lot more done too

InternetSchminternet · 31/03/2018 20:55

I scheduled my Facebook account fo deletion this week, and have culled my Instagram followers down from 250 to 60, and the accounts I'm following from 600+ to 180.

I SERIOUSLY recommend both those things.

InternetSchminternet · 31/03/2018 20:56

*for deletion

ISaidIWasTired · 31/03/2018 21:00

I like it/enjoy it too. But I think we would probably all be happier without it.

Everyone is on their phone too much, no one is actually engaged. I'm on my phone now and supposed to be watching a film 😂

Mumofkids · 31/03/2018 21:18

@isaidiwastired I know what you mean. I find I use my phone for work reasons and sending emails and looking things up, and browsing/shopping sothen social media on top and your phone takes over your life. Normal day to day life I try to limit things nhs to certain times as I worry about the children just seeing adults staring at their phones. My mother in law is now dreadful as she plays cards on her phone, and that takes her hours! But to a kid it's just more phone staring.
Do business instagrammers tend to use phones or cameras for their accounts I wonder?

Mumofkids · 31/03/2018 21:19

Not sure where the nhs came from!

Fruitbowl2 · 31/03/2018 21:33

I love victoriaropercurzon's insta. No ads required there, just ridiculously stylishly rich with a lovely filter.

Stellastartsitall · 31/03/2018 21:35

My favorite instagrammers who are mums/dads brilliant accounts and some are businesses but they do it rather well.

Motherpukka
Thise17life
Simplytgenest
Playhooray
Thedadlab
Bubblegarm
Naptimestyle
Seasonal tales
Oneeyedraven
Mama peach and bird
I'm sure there are a few more.....

laurahill88 · 31/03/2018 21:35

@fruitbowl2 oh I’ll have to check her out. My favourite instagrammer is lifewithoaksandolive such cute little ones and she seems like such a great mum

Mumofkids · 31/03/2018 21:36

@fruitbowl2 I wish I could recreate that insta in my home! Bonnets and all. Unfortunately my teens are not having the rompers and pinafores 🤣

InternetSchminternet · 31/03/2018 21:37

I love play.hooray.
Also, a non parent but beautiful account is colorcurated. His feed is stunning

Fruitbowl2 · 31/03/2018 21:49

Oh great Stella and Internet thanks will check them out.

Mumofkids yeah my 3 in ripped jeans and hoodies are not for insta bonnets either!

Mumofkids · 31/03/2018 21:51

I have a soft spot for
Rememberingtheoldways
Raisingupten
dwalliams (I love that he posts his dog and so many photos of him and often his mum beaming, I'm not sure if they are supposed to make me smile but they do)
Chloeandbeans

Mumofkids · 31/03/2018 21:52

It changes though as you find new accounts and feeds change!

Supernorthernme · 31/03/2018 21:59

I have been following these threads since the beginning and have found them really interesting. They have made me really question how i view accounts on instagtam and embarrassingly realise sometimes i was getting totally sucked in.

I follow lots of the instamums mentioned here, though have noticed a huge change in their accounts towards more ads since i had DC nearly a year ago. One that has really annoyed me today is Lobellaloves, who i dont think has been mentioned here yet. I kind of vaguely know her via a friend which is why I follow her and she seems to be trying to get into the main 'clique'. But today her stories were all about some freebie organix she was sent - and how she knows there has been stuff on mumsnet about ads. But then doesnt label it an ad! And of course it's on stories so will go away.

She made me think about something someone mentioned upthread (or on an earlier thread) i am really sceptical about what seems to me to be the glorification of mental illness, often pnd, with some of these instamum's. As someone who has suffered i find it like some of them see it as a badge of honour. Depression does not always wear lippy.. .

Mumofkids · 31/03/2018 22:10

The mental health references are a tricky area. I'm sure some people have suffered but overall it's like a wave and it gets a bit diluted and seems over used. I've had terrible, debilitating PND which I didn't realise until I was quite sick, and recently someone I follow, came out with PND in a very brave, sharing video, but then that was that and now life is New house, new job and it seems like feeling down for a while, tell everyone about it and share and then everything is fine. But mental health is not like that. I don't know. I really don't like to judge at all with mental health issues as it's so complex but some of this sharing is unhelpful.

danielleparry · 31/03/2018 22:13

@Mumofkids with you on that. I love the openness about mental health. But there's a line. And in some places it's been crossed.

danielleparry · 31/03/2018 22:15

Mental health is not fashionable. It's not glamorous. It's not there for follows or likes. It's a serious problem. And no amount of "you ok hun" or "you've got this mama" will help. (Sorry. This topic hits home with me)

3asAbird · 31/03/2018 22:16

Does anyone follow

Rosieandthetwo boys the oldfashioned retro way she dresses her boys stands out from some other inta mummies.

Is dress like a mum cornwall holiday tonight a freebie? The hotel is tagged so im unsure.
Really like her air and grace rainbow trainers but i expect they be out my price range.

I hate the strong girl t shirts

But i do occasionally lust after selfish mother ones in coral or navy.

We expecting a baby and i refuse to buy good old Insta sleepy head.

CadyHeron · 31/03/2018 22:18

I find if someone shares about their struggles, if you're going through the same thing it can make you feel like you're not the only one suffering and there's others out there too.
That you're not alone. It's not just you.
That's my take on it anyway, but appreciate that not everyone will want to see posts like that.

Mumofkids · 31/03/2018 22:20

@danielleparry agree absolutely, and when it gets so diluted it means other people start to just go 'oh every man and his dog has mental health issues' and that people use it to get sympathy. When actual mental illness is not like that at all. It tends to be the ones who talk about it far less or say they are fine are suffering the most. No happy inspiration card will help there.

RunMummyRun68 · 31/03/2018 22:21
