To want to cry at about all the years that have flown by?

Watching Brit pop on BBC, just got a rush of nostalgia that nearly floored me. All those years gone in a flash. I’m nearly 40.
Can’t help wishing i’d made the most of it! They say youth is wasted on the young. All the things I didn’t do that I should have done. All very depressing. And I’ve not even had wine tonight!!Grin

Oh god don’t. I’m the same age, and I can’t bear it.

I’m always quite sure in my head that the nineties were about ten years ago and it always pulls me up short.

It doesn’t help that I have a soon to be sixteen year old child.

Wail wail.

Fosterdog123 · 29/03/2018 22:52

Whatever those 'things' are, do em quick. 40 is still young. You've got a couple of good years left in you yet. Hurry up though!!!

FlaminYon · 29/03/2018 22:53

I'm getting in this boat, move over!

My 'baby' is 17yo and I'm about to turn 40

Wine
Klarabing · 29/03/2018 22:54

MrsJayy · 29/03/2018 22:56

You are all the same age as Grease i heard it was 40 this year I saw it in the pictures when i was 8

Chairmancow · 29/03/2018 22:56

What are your regrets? Mine are mainly wishing I’d spent less time pissed and taking drugs and more time studying Blush Also wish I’d travelled more and seen more bands. I think life just passed me by a bit. I got my act together in the end and have a decent job, husband and kids. Arrggg they’re playing oasis don’t look back in anger!! Oh my goodness I’m so old!

Tigerpaws57 · 29/03/2018 22:59

And in 10 or 15 years time you will be wishing you could go back to now and make the most of it. NOW is your time! It will never come again. Make the most of it!!

Chairmancow · 29/03/2018 22:59

Also I’ve been googling Levi 501s and Ellesse trainers (saddo)

"take that look from off your face" Sad

ScipioAfricanus · 29/03/2018 23:02

I’m having a real mid life crisis about this at the moment. If it’s any consolation I wish I’d spent less time studying and more time having fun!

Titsywoo · 29/03/2018 23:02

I'm 40 this year too. I don't really regret anything as it's all turned out ok Grin. There are lots of things I'd like to do but feel a bit held back by kids/husband/job/money. I am losing weight though as I've got properly fat and they say it's hard to lose after 40. Plus I might as well look nice for a couple of years before it all goes to shit.

crumbsinthecutlerydrawer · 29/03/2018 23:03

Chairmancow I was watching too and it had me looking up clothes I was wearing 20odd years ago that are back now.

Also found this and am seriously considering reliving my youth this summer.

Mine are mainly wishing I’d spent less time pissed and taking drugs and more time studying...

I wish I'd spent more time enjoying myself and less time studying for pointless qualifications that are completely useless.

Fairylea · 29/03/2018 23:03

To turn it on it’s head .. isn’t it wonderful you can be so young and enjoy the future as well as so many things from the past? 40 is relatively young these days. Plenty of life to go! Grin

I am 38 and I am having the time of my life at the moment. I don’t feel old at all. Sure I sometimes get a bit of a shock when someone mentions the 90s and it feels like two seconds ago but actually I enjoy so many things from “now” and that helps keep me feeling young.

I stubbornly refuse to feel or be “old”. Grin

StorminaBcup · 29/03/2018 23:08

I don’t feel that taking drugs or getting pissed was a waste of my youth. I’m 40 with two young dc now so hangovers are a nightmare! Grin

Butterymuffin · 29/03/2018 23:09

With you OP.

PinotMwah · 29/03/2018 23:09

Oh god, shut up and stop whinging. I'm 10 years older than you and have lived through musical periods far more exciting than Britpop (which was a watered down version of the 1970s and far less exciting than the rave rea). Nostalgia is part of life and not an excuse for self-pity. Get over it and be grateful that you are (relatively) young and healthy. Sorry. No sympathy.

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 29/03/2018 23:10

I forgot how hot young Damon Albarn was.

Phuquocdreams · 29/03/2018 23:12

Same age, though I think I don’t really regret too much all in. And - speaking as a boring responsible mother of two in senior management - the one thing I most definitely don’t regret are the drugs and getting pissed! 😄

FlaminYon · 29/03/2018 23:12

Well I feel younger now that I've been given out to!

Thanks Pinot Grin

MabantoMoonface · 29/03/2018 23:13

All the things I didn’t do that I should have done

If I did it all over again I would drink a lot more booze, take a lot more drugs, shag a lot more people and generally push the boat out properly. And occasionally have a large donner kebab with extra chilli sauce.

buckeejit · 29/03/2018 23:13

I'm 40& really enjoyed all the drink & drugs of yore. Despite that I had a good career for a while before dc, now I'm having a good lifestyle though not fancy & still enjoying the wine at least. After EasterI have to lose about 50 stone though!

MsGameandWatching · 29/03/2018 23:15

I have done loads and I don't have many regrets or yearnings. The only things I regret are I wish I had known how pretty I was back then instead of feeling lumpy and ugly, I wasn't at ALL. I also wish I hadn't been so preoccupied with being a "nice" girl and had just shagged all the lovely men I had the opportunity to. It matters not a jot now, whether I was "nice" or not, I'm still a knackered single parent Grin who never goes out and meets any lovely men any more.

JaniceBattersby · 29/03/2018 23:16

I regret feeling so bloody miserable during my late teens and early 20s. I so wish I’d just been able to soak it all up and have a blast instead of mooning over silly boys who didn’t care about me and arguing with girls who were just as insecure as I was.

That said, the 90s. Such great fun. Such great music.

lovemylover · 29/03/2018 23:17

You are still young, wish i was 40 again, enjoy life ,time soon passes
I am early 70s, and i could cry too,
I dont know where the time has gone and yes i have lots of regrets, but too late now
I still feel 40,or younger sometimes,,
