They have run out of milk chocolate eggs. The bog standard ones they personalise. Seriously. I'm so annoyed at how shit they are.

There are 3 people in my family that will be very disappointed. You just don't expect a (massively overrated) chocolate shop to run out of chocolate!!!!!!! Can they not just MAKE SOME MORE?????!

Gosh, seems harsh to piblically berate the op for thinking several days was enough contingency to buy a chocolate egg. Perhaps she has limited storage to want to fill it with eggs for weeks? Am sure you will find a good substitute op and perhaps Thornton's will lose a loyal customer

MumofBoysx2 · 29/03/2018 18:15

Thorntons chocolate isn't very nice anyway. Our local Waitrose have some lovely eggs, and lots still in stock. I'd take your business elsewhere if they can't provide chocolate at Easter!

Dodie66 · 29/03/2018 18:20

Tesco. I’ve just bought 2 Thornton’s eggs from them

bostonkremekrazy · 29/03/2018 18:22

Asda stores have the basic one with a butterfly or football on. I know its not the same as having the name put on...but needs must - or is there a thorntons shop nearby?
My elderly aunt gives all the children one, its going to be a huge loss of tradition once she is gone 😢

supersop60 · 29/03/2018 18:23

YANBU. It's still 3 days to go. No panic.

bunbunny · 29/03/2018 18:23

I'm sure I was reading on here recently that Thorntons also made chocolate eggs for other people including M&S and Aldi or Lidl, so you could get the same chocolate egg for a different price albeit with different packaging.

Might be worth a google to see if you can figure out exactly who it was that they made them for... Sorry, I can't remember the exact stores.

greendale17 · 29/03/2018 18:25

^I really get bored with this. It may be made
by Thorntons but the eggs taste different!

Vitalogy · 29/03/2018 18:25

A substitute will have to work because there's none left. Maybe everyone will be glad of a change.

Needmorehands · 29/03/2018 18:25

@bunbunnny I'm sure that Thornton's can't make eggs for Aldi and Lidl as their chocolate is much better quality than Thorntons as they are subject to European standards which doesn't let them bulk out the chocolate with crap. I'd much rather have a Lidl egg than a Thornton's overpriced one

MrsMuddlePluck · 29/03/2018 18:26

Never had an issue buying eggs on easter weekend?

crumpet · 29/03/2018 18:27

On the upside, Thornton’s chocolate is foul so you can at least get something which tastes half decent.

speakout · 29/03/2018 18:28

Buy them when you see them OP.

That's life.

Sirzy · 29/03/2018 18:30

If you want specific eggs you need to buy st least a couple of week in advance. If you are happy to have any of what is left then leave it to the last minute.

Shops aren’t going to over stock on things like Easter eggs as there isn’t really much call for them after easter.

JessicaJonesJacket · 29/03/2018 18:32

They'll still have some in store if you're anywhere near a Thornton's. Otherwise, pop to your nearest Tesco. They'll have Thornton's eggs and you can buy your own icing as a PP suggested.
We had a disaster with a special cake last year and I managed to ice letters/words that were definitely passable. Believe me if I can do it anyone can!

nowtygaffer · 29/03/2018 18:33

I've bought some Thorntons eggs today in Iceland.

nowtygaffer · 29/03/2018 18:33

The shop not the country.

PeonyTruffle · 29/03/2018 18:35

Thornton’s chocolate is grim anyway so you’ve had a lucky escape Grin

BikeRunSki · 29/03/2018 18:40

About 3 years ago I couldn’t buy pumpkins on 29 Oct.
Last year I bought whatever Easter Eggs Aldi had left on Maundy Thursday, none of which would have been first choice.
This year I have learnt my lesson and have had Easter Eggs hidden in the boot of my car for about a month!

littlevoiceofsanity · 29/03/2018 18:43

There were some in Lidl made by Thorntons and Aldi have a nice range of stuff. Price has lowered as well.

PlumsGalore · 29/03/2018 18:46

Loads of eggs here, Thornton, Lindt, fancy coloured marbley things. You can buy the Thornton rabbits in Tesco and like pp said, buy a ready made icing kit for two quid from the baking aisle and pipe it yourself.

A rabbit looks better than an egg anyway.

OlennasWimple · 29/03/2018 18:46

We haven't Brexited (yet), the same EU standards apply to Thorntons chocolate as Aldi and Lidl...

cantdoitititititit · 29/03/2018 18:50

Grab some from Hotel Chocolat, they are taking orders until tonight for Easter delivery. Great choc too.

TwitterThread3 · 29/03/2018 18:50

Why do you keep banging on that it’s the ‘basic’, ‘no frills’ variety that sold out? Has it not occurred to you that the basic (and cheapest) variety is one of their best sellers? Again, you left it too late. Be extremely annoyed by all means but it’s of your own doing.

You keep saying how you don’t even like those specific eggs but HAVE to get them - hun just try somewhere else surely. If you can’t get personalised ones then add the names yourself. It’s literally not that serious

Vagndidit · 29/03/2018 18:55

Don't know where you live Op, but Can you not go to a local Thornton's shop instead of Sourcing online? I was in our local this morning and they had masses of eggs in. Sainsbury's too.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 29/03/2018 18:57

Next year, get them early and ask a friend to look after them. My neighbour buys half of bloody Cadbury for her lot. I have 30 full size Easter eggs in my spare room (plus a couple of bags of Egg Hunting bits & pieces)! 😂. She’s bloody lucky there’s still 30 left the week I’ve had!
