AIBU to think that MN are letting us down?

I have really enjoyed MN in the past, both for advice and sometimes for a laugh or a debate. I don't use other social media and feel I can express myself more freely amongst mostly other women and within the relative anonymity that a username provides. However in recent months i have seen thread after thread appear in the Daily Fail and now The Mirror and a live conversation on ITV's Loose Women!! Some of the subject matter is sensitive and could give OPs away. I know it's a public forum but sharing on here is not the same as publishing in a newspaper or an interview on TV . AIBU to expect a forum like MN, that used to feel pro women, to do more about this?

'The importance and value of user anonymity' - as far as I'm concerned that's exactly what I have. Its up to the individual not to give too many details away. Its not rocket science

NotTakenUsername · 29/03/2018 17:55

This thread is ridiculous. What are you trying to achieve op?

What question? Confused

Graphista · 29/03/2018 18:00

"the campaigner that I though they were" erm YEA YOU DID say EXACTLY that - can you not remember?

MsHarry · 29/03/2018 18:04

I did say that graphista but I did not say that was their sole purpose which is what I was accused of saying. There's a difference. Not can you not scroll back?

MsHarry what do you actually want from this thread. We get you don't like the fact that threads get repeated from a public forum in the media. Nor does anyone else. However we also get that once something is put in the public domain thats the risk you take. You have had this explained many times now. If you don't like it don't post.

All those handy 'Apps' on your phone and the trail of data that goes with the basic function of the phone (apps on or off) pinpoint you (your phone) to within a few metres anywhere on earth. Data analysis of what your phone was doing, when and where can give a pretty good picture of what is happening. Of course there is so much data that 'authorities' tend to target individuals of particular interest although software to process more data is being worked on.
The Stazi used a network of 'informers', roughly 1 in 10 of the population was an informer, and at least one in every family. All their work was hand written. Now we are handing far more information to authorities 'on a plate' to a level the Stazi could never have dreamed about, AND they can sit in a comfy office.

I don't know why there is such hate being directed at me. I am not attacking you so why are you attacking me? Is this your entertainment. I genuinely think this is a debate worth having. You have given your opinion, thanks, now move on.

MsHarry · 29/03/2018 18:07

Zwellers I wanted a discussion. I wanted others' opinions. No sinister intent from me. Give your opinion, are you happy with this or not? There is no need to brow beat me as some are.

I think maybe I am realising that MN is not what I thought. I thought it was a space to express thought and opinions, not a space to be picked on because of my views or belittled for not being as aware as others. Are you lot for real?

OP posts:
MsHarry · 29/03/2018 18:10

Why do I have to want anything from this thread apart from others' views?

Posters aren't 'hating' on you MsHarry -but to be honest this thread does read like you're flailing against an injustice and think that MN are not doing right by their posters/members/content providers whilst other posters are simply pointing out that these are the times we live in and yes I do think that as a (presumably) grown adult you do need to make it your responsibility to understand the platforms you use.

MsHarry · 29/03/2018 18:13

I know they are the times we live in. But, nothing gets changed if we just accept the status quo. MN state that their content is copyright but that they 'probably' wouldn't win a challenge against the DM, so we all just say ok then.

OP posts:
MsHarry · 29/03/2018 18:14

I'm hitting back because the tone of some posts is quite condescending.

OP posts:
NotTakenUsername · 29/03/2018 18:14

Now the op is apparently getting ‘hate’...! Where?? Confused

MsHarry · 29/03/2018 18:15

Writing your bank account details and pin number on your car windscreen is FAR more secure than the internet. Only a few hundred people would see it and very few would act on the information.

NotTakenUsername · 29/03/2018 18:19

What are you talking about?!

MsHarry · 29/03/2018 18:21

Classic name changer Not What will you be called tomorrow?

OP posts:

that they 'probably' wouldn't win a challenge against the DM, so we all just say ok then.

What’s the alternative? Should they test case something they know they can’t win to to please you, MrsHarry? How much would that cost? Mumsnet is a business like any other. The have shareholders and have a responsibility to those shareholders to make sound business decisions...

MsHarry · 29/03/2018 18:26

What? Confused

Don’t you even understand advance search? How are you even on the Internet with so little knowledge?
