Half eaten cake and open packet of biscuits, leftover after visitors, Aibu to throw it all away just to stop us eating it? Hate having so much unhealthy stuff in the house

If nothing else crumble them up and feed them to the birds.

dudsville · 28/03/2018 21:42

Smarty move I'd say!

mamaduckbone · 28/03/2018 21:43

Never throw away cake. I’ll have it!Grin

alittlequinnie · 28/03/2018 21:44

I'm always throwing food away that people give me to be kind - it makes me feel terrible but I do always warn not to buy it - it also really saves my waistline!

bubblybrit · 28/03/2018 21:44

I throw away unhealthy snacks all the time as my DH and I would eat them otherwise! We only buy cakes/biscuits if we are having visitors.

Sometimes I take the leftovers into work so that others can enjoy and then it’s not wasting food?

bettydraper31 · 28/03/2018 21:45

My family always bring crap over. I nearly always just chuck it!

Boatsnack3 · 28/03/2018 21:46

I'd throw it out if I was you. I ended up throwing what was left of my birthday cake in the bin because every time i went into the kitchen a slice would jump off the plate into my mouth.

FlirtyRomanticToast · 28/03/2018 21:51

Grin Yeah I hate when cake does this!

Narkle · 29/03/2018 05:14

I hate food waste. Most cakes can be frozen and most biscuits last for ages if you seal them in an airtight container. If need be take the biscuits to work or leave them out for visitors.

Bluetoo1 · 29/03/2018 05:20

I bin. My and my families health is the more important,

KC225 · 29/03/2018 05:22

Throw it out for the birds or else it suddenly disappears, and the next thing you know it reappears on your thighs. Cake can be sinister.

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 29/03/2018 05:34

Put them in the freezer for next time.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/03/2018 05:42

What’s the flavours...until I’m clear on this how could I possibly adviseSmile

bluebells1 · 29/03/2018 05:58

I agree with OnlyfoolsnMothers. Stop drip feeding and tell us the flavours Grin

Pengggwn · 29/03/2018 06:34

I think calling half a cake and some biscuits 'so much unhealthy stuff' is a bit OTT. But it's your stuff - bin it if you want.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 29/03/2018 06:41

Seems OTT to describe that amount of cake and biscuits as “so much” unhealthy food, but then I could have it in the house and not eat it so it wouldn’t bother me

TeisanLap · 29/03/2018 06:52

*I think calling half a cake and some biscuits 'so much unhealthy stuff' is a bit OTT

I agree.

I think this thread is what people refer to as virtue signaling.

LEMtheoriginal · 29/03/2018 07:02

Virtue signalling? I'm not sure what it means but I guess it means "look at me how healthy/kind/sensible pretentious am I? " sort of thing?

FrankensteinsSister · 29/03/2018 07:16

Only if you’d eat it and regret it. Your body is not a rubbish bin, you don’t need to dispose of leftovers in yourself.

DontFundHate · 29/03/2018 07:27

Thanks everyone, I'll bring it round to a friend's. Made me laugh all those posters who didn't like me saying so much unhealthy food - I know it's not much, there was sooooon much more which I've already eaten!! GrinBiscuitBiscuitCake

Sad how flippant people are about food waste. Yes YABU to bin good edible food. There are plenty of things you could do with it other than eat it yourself and you know it.

orangesmartieseggs · 29/03/2018 07:35

Why would anyone chuck away perfectly edible food?

If unopened, give it to your local
food bank or take it into work for people to share.

AvoidingDM · 29/03/2018 07:37

There's a line of thought that once food is purchased (and cooked) the money and what happens to the food is irrelevant.
The point to think about avoiding wasting food is before purchase. Once its purchased it doesn't matter if you eat it (and store it on your hips) or bin it.

Vitalogy · 29/03/2018 07:41

If unopened, give it to your local food bank or take it into work for people to share This. People will collect open foods stuffs through Freecycle too.

SundayGirls · 29/03/2018 07:54

OP I would bin it to be frank. Food banks and neighbours etc unlikely to want half an opened cake and some biscuits. Just bin it and don't think about it again. My mum can't bin anything because "wasteful" BUT she and my dad buy in far too much crap to start with and they are both substantially overweight. So they might be not wasting food but they are treating their bodies as rubbish disposal and it's not done their health any good at all, they both have had quite serious weight-related problems.
