I've had a major diet overhaul, I'm trying to change how I think about myself and food & I'm working out 7 times a week, getting up at 5:30 & then going again after work twice/3 times a week.
The end of this week will make it a month but so far I've only lost around 10lbs- which is yet to show physically.
I thought the complete 180 in my lifestyle would bring about drastic results.

I know I have to be consistent but It's getting me down just a little bit and I'm finding myself googling or youtubing weight loss tips at every chance!

To those who have gone through the weight loss process how long did it take you before you saw tangible results?

I'm 5'2 & starting weight was around 210lbs fyi

Muscle weighs heavier than fat.

BOLLOCKS
1kg of muscle weighs 1kg

LemonysSnicket · 29/03/2018 20:45

Losing weight is 80% diet, 20% food

WittyDaddyUsername · 29/03/2018 20:51

Muscle does weigh the same as Fat. But it is more dense. In the same way polystyrene weighs the same as bricks. Bricks are more dense.

TalkinPeece · 29/03/2018 20:53

But muscle is only about 15% more dense
the picture posted up thread is fake
the comparison between polystyrene and bricks is not applicable

compare butter and steak ..... similar volume .... same weight

VivaKondo · 29/03/2018 21:03

Please please remember that your should NEVER want to loose more weight than that in a month.
Otherwise you are not going to loose fat but muscles. Muscles that are the part of your body burning fat.
And muscles that are VERY hard to build up (unlike fat cells).

You really dont want to loose more than that.
Actually the fact you are loosing weight a that rate means your diet is a good one!

Loosing takes time (just like it took time for you to put weight in btw)

pollymere · 29/03/2018 21:16

I aim to lose 4lb a month. Any more isn't healthy long term. Congratulations, but don't overdo it!

Buttons44 · 29/03/2018 22:23

Thats really amazing OP its a helluva lot of weight to lose in a short period of time took me over a year to lose 3 stone!

mumandminder · 29/03/2018 22:54

Sorry I haven't read all comments so this may have been said but I absolutely without a doubt think you should photograph yourself. Wear the same outfit every week e.g.black leggings and black vest top and stand in the same place every week. Do front and side profile. You won't see it in yourself until you compare photos and you can look at those pics in the future to help you not go backwards. Good luck you're doing brill

marymoosmum · 29/03/2018 22:56

10lbs is amazing, do have a measuring tape to take your measurements? You might not be able to physically see it but if you measure your waist and hip I bet you will notice you have lost inches. Never trust the scales either, especially when exercising as you gain muscle and muscle weighs more than fat.

Roundtumble · 29/03/2018 23:26

Thanks everyone. The encouragement is great :)
Mumandminder & Serial I have not taken my measurements which I regret but I can't find my tape!
I'm due to take my 1 months picture & weigh in on Sunday. Tbh doubt there'll be much change but we'll see.
To those concerned about my 'dieting' i'm not, I've swapped crap for healthier foods that I like & can maintain long term. No dieting around here. I've tried it before and fell flat on my face.

Thanks ballerini- I used to beat myself up about falling off the wagon and then just stop but I'm at a different place now.

Witty thanks for the time you put in your responses.

I'll probably be back on Sunday with my results for anyone interested. I will also update in another couple of weeks or a month if change becomes apparent by then.
Fluffiny update us on your results too if you want. Congrats on the progress so far. That goes to anyone else trying to better themselves however that may be :)

Night for now. I'm about to enjoy this long weekend, no work tomorrow -woop woop!!

The key with changing your diet is finding what works for you. Some people love the 5.2 diet but I know fasting wouldn’t work for me. I’ve lost three kilos in three weeks and some of my diet is a bit unorthodox but it works and I can stick with it long term. I’m a sweet tooth so I allow myself small amounts of chocolate or a mini ice cream every day. I also drink diet soft drinks. Sure, water would be better but small changes make things easier. I also allow myself a small serving of pringles as a snack and some days will eat a small takeaway burger as long as it’s without chips (they always ask, are you sure you just want a burger’). Don’t worry, there’s also lean protein, veggies and fruit in my diet as well Smile

For exercise I’ve just slotted more walking into my day. I’ve got a dog to walk, so no slogging it out at the gym for me Grin

FollowYourOwnNorthStar · 30/03/2018 01:47

Hi!

Well done on the weight loss so far - fantastic! What’s even better is the motivation to change and keep going!

I started on 1 Jan this year, I am 161cm/5 foot 2.5 inched and was 110.2kg or 17.2 stone. I am now 95kg or 14.9 stone. 8 have lost 15.2kg/2.4 stone.

I took ages to see it. Here’s a link to a post I started in Mumsnet, saying why wasn’t I seeing results! It helped me realise that whilst I felt I was working really hard and wanted validation right away, it had taken me a long time to get this big, and it would take a bit of time to get smaller (and noticeably so!) too.

I can report that still no one has noticed, but my clothes fit much better now (and some are very loose), but I’m not down a size yet. I can wear higher heels without my knees hurting, and my face looks slimmer to me (only me so far!).

After adjusting my expectations, I’m pleased with that, and keen to see what they next 15kg/2 Stone brings!

PatriciaBateman · 30/03/2018 02:13

It's not helpful to weigh two things to get the same measurement and then say they weigh the same.

Using that method, nothing weighs more than anything else. Everything weighs the same!

It's like saying champagne and bottled water cost the same because £10 of champagne costs the same as £10 of bottled water.

Muscle does weigh more than fat by volume. A cup of muscle will weigh more than a cup of fat. Which is why you can gain weight and still lose inches.

Thursdaydreaming · 30/03/2018 04:17

Yes, but as pps have pointed out, the difference is quite small.

So people that come on here and assure OP that after working out for only a short time like a month (or in the case of some other threads, a week or two!) they must be weighing a lot because of muscle, aren't being realistic or helpful.

Your progress so far is great OP, keep it up.

tootsweet30 · 30/03/2018 09:15

Doing well op! Take all advice on this thread with a pinch of salt. People will tell you to cut down calories further and do different exercise but The right diet and training is the one that works for you.
If your weight loss stops then is the time to tweak it . For now if you can sustain it I would just keep doing what works.
Weight loss doesn't seem to be linear for a lot of people and exercise can make you retain water (temporarily), as can hormonal fluctuations but as people have said it's a marathon not a sprint and if you keep it up you will see results !

SkaPunkPrincess · 30/03/2018 11:55

muscle does not weigh more than fat! fgsake. Which weighs more? a pound of feathers or a pound of lead?

Give your heads a wobble!

PatriciaBateman · 30/03/2018 12:26

Muscle does weigh more than fat, by volume.

It's not useful to compare weight by measuring two things to get the same weight as the starting point!
Doing it that way, everything weighs the same.

A cup of muscle weighs more than a cup of fat.

PatriciaBateman · 30/03/2018 12:28

Also, what we call "fat" in human beings, isn't pure fat that sits around like a block of butter.

It's adipose tissue, which is a large percentage of fat, hanging around in loose connective tissue (a bit like a net), with water and other minor ingredients.

A lb of what we call "fat" in a human being won't sit around taking up the same amount of space as a block of butter.

PatriciaBateman · 30/03/2018 12:31

That odd measuring logic could apply to anything:

Nothing is bigger than anything else. A square inch of an elephant is the same size as a square inch of a mouse.

Nothing costs more than anything else. £10 of gold is the same as £10 of manure.

You don't compare units of measurement by measuring two things to the same amount and then comparing!

TalkinPeece · 30/03/2018 12:56

patricia
The underlying point is that replacing fat with muscle will not make you skinny
A 100 kg rugby player has low body fat, high body muscle
but they are not slim
A 100 kg couch potato has high body fat, low body muscle
and is not slim

Roundtumble · 30/03/2018 13:28

Thanks new posts for the encouragement :)
I've added a pic of what I had for lunch for anyone interested. I added about 4 more bits of broccoli after because the first bite tasted so good. Love me some broccoli!
Won't eat again until after the gym in the evening. Going to do a body pump class for the first time.

Roundtumble · 30/03/2018 13:33

I baked the eggs in a cast iron pan in the oven. No oil
Used a tefal pan with just a drop of oil for the chicken breast and peppers and steamed the broccoli.

It's crazy how much my eating habits have changed but it can be done.
Stick in there. Little changes can make a big difference.

TalkinPeece
The "underlying point" you refer to, is in fact, a different point.

The only point I'm addressing is the assertion I keep seeing that "fat weighs the same as muscle", because "1 lb weighs the same as 1 lb".

This is blatantly misleading in any useful sense of applying the concept of "weight" (ie. by comparing volumes).

Genuine points containing truth don't need bizarre logic and obscuration of understanding to prop them up.
