I've had a major diet overhaul, I'm trying to change how I think about myself and food & I'm working out 7 times a week, getting up at 5:30 & then going again after work twice/3 times a week.
The end of this week will make it a month but so far I've only lost around 10lbs- which is yet to show physically.
I thought the complete 180 in my lifestyle would bring about drastic results.

I know I have to be consistent but It's getting me down just a little bit and I'm finding myself googling or youtubing weight loss tips at every chance!

To those who have gone through the weight loss process how long did it take you before you saw tangible results?

I'm 5'2 & starting weight was around 210lbs fyi

quimreaper
reread the post at 12:59
that is one of three meals in the day .... meat and veg in the others too
and it has cheese and meat with it so well over 300 calories

the OP needs to look up her TDEE for her height and age and weight and eat within it
7 workouts a week seems perfectly sane to me by the way

Nomorechickens · 28/03/2018 16:02

OP well done! The important thing is to find an eating plan that works for you and that you can stick to. But I agree you should try and move to more veg and less fruit. And allow yourself the occasional higher calorie day, so your body doesn't go into starvation mode and permanently lower your metabolism.
I find gym classes more fun than just working out. Eg bodypump class.

StormTreader · 28/03/2018 16:05

"Whoever said muscle weighs more than fat...it doesn't"

Yes it does, for the same volume of mass. Of course a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat, but the pound of muscle is a much smaller size.

TalkinPeece · 28/03/2018 16:17

but the pound of muscle is a much smaller size.
less than 10% smaller

The scales cannot tell muscle from fat as they weigh the same

TalkinPeece · 28/03/2018 16:18

so your body doesn't go into starvation mode and permanently lower your metabolism.
Another myth that needs to be binned.

Groovee · 28/03/2018 16:20

10lb in a month is amazing. I've lost 4.5st in 14 months. And feel great for it. I didn't see results for a while but I've kept going and feel good for it. Every little helps.

QuimReaper · 28/03/2018 16:21

No Talk she either has the massive breakfast then fruit and yoghurt, or she just has two boiled eggs for breakfast, then meat and veg for lunch and dinner.

Agree it's hard to know how calorific the breakfast is without knowing the quantities of cheese, but the eggs, veg and turkey sausage shouldn't be adding up to more than about 5-600 calories, which is fine for a main meal, she probably isn't going over about 1500 a day.

QuimReaper · 28/03/2018 16:23

I agree in general about the TDEE thing of course though, - very good information to be furnished with, especially as she gets lighter. Also portion sizes, I don't use MFP any more but it was invaluable in educating myself about what calories are in what portion sizes.

QuimReaper · 28/03/2018 16:24

Can't believe we made it so far through this thread without someone wheeling out "starvation mode"!

MrsGloop · 28/03/2018 16:26

Don’t forget the water weight that comes from starting a workout program, particularly if you are doing resistance work. Tears in the muscle fibers are “healed” by retaining water...it usually takes a few weeks to dissipate, and is typically the reason people say “why have I started gaining weight now that I’m working out?”

Congratulations on your weight loss so far, and on the lifestyle overhaul. That’s terrific!

Dragongirl10 · 28/03/2018 16:30

OP you have done amazingly well, if you want great quick and easy tasty meals then try the Louise Parker method.

I had 2 stone to lose a year ago and l was already eating pretty healthily, and active, but l have always put on weight easily.

I was really busy so just kept to my twice weekly gym sessions, did the Louise Parker meals 100% and yet lost 1 and a half stone in 8 weeks! I was dumbstruck how well it worked with no extra exercise.

It is long term sustainable and balanced too, l have kept the weight off.

Firesuit · 28/03/2018 16:30

Many years ago I lost about a 30 pounds. That took nine months of calorie counting, my maximum loss rate was about 5 pounds a month.

mirage937 · 28/03/2018 16:54

Well done with your progress, 10lbs might not seem a lot but it is 5% of your BM, i agree with taking measurements and also pictures of yourself to compare.

what types of workouts are you doing ? a friend of mine is marathon training as had lost a considerable amount of weight since she started, she does two runs a day or a run and a gym session her diet seems a lot larger than yours but she had a consultation with someone (im not sure on correct term nutritionist/dietician?) who tailored her a plan based on her requirements (vegan) and what training she wanted to to.
I think it helps finding an exercise you love to do/or classes.

Roundtumble · 28/03/2018 17:05

Groovee & Dragongirl that's amazing! I'll have to look Louise up.
Mirage i'm doing a mixture of cardio/weight training & classes.
Seems the consensus is I have to cut down on the fruit Sad I have a major sweet tooth so thought the fruit was a healthier option

OP posts:
laddylonglocks · 28/03/2018 17:15

I can understand your frustration, whenever I start being healthy I lose about 10lbs in the first week due to the loss of water mostly. This big loss then spurs me on to do the rest. If I were you I would cut down on the exercise as it's 90% diet and 10% exercise. Keep your carbs low and your protein high.
Remember though, you're slimmer than a month ago. Look how quickly the months go by.. soon it'll be summer and then next thing it'll be Christmas. Keep going and you'll have lost loads!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 28/03/2018 17:16

If the fruit is stopping you from reaching for a more unhealthy option, keep it in your diet

Orgazoid · 28/03/2018 17:24

10lb in a month is a big loss. Any more than that and you'll be losing muscle as well as fat and you'll be unhappy with the end result.

Being several stones overweight takes long term overeating to accomplish, the reverse process won't happen overnight either.

saf1ya5 · 28/03/2018 17:48

It's not for everyone, but when I feel like the scales are creeping up, I do a 3-day juice detox. I just did one Fri - Sun and went from almost 10 stone to 9 stone 7. They deliver 18 bottles to your door and you literally have one every two hours or so with herbal teas inbetween and that's it. No food at all, but one of the smoothies per day has oats or some fibre in it, others have banana. You don't actually feel hungry - the worst thing for me is the caffeine-withdrawal headache on day 1. But you do need to choose days when you don't have much on. The best thing is, you don't feel like anything sugary, caffeine or processed for weeks afterwards (you really can't eat it) and you feel more alert.

Anyway, 10 lbs is fantastic given that you're not even in a drastic diet and it's no doubt very sustainable. Well done!

Dragongirl10 · 28/03/2018 18:17

Op l also have a very sweet tooth...... so l buy a minatures pack of Green and Blacks chocolates a fortnight, and after each healthy dinner l have half a mini bar they are so delicious they curb my cravings (but very tiny)
If you can come to like the darker chocolate ie 70% cocoa and above they are fine and won't blow your diet as long as eaten in small quantities.

The othe tip l found helpful is to take almonds every where, a few will keep your energy up with few calories, same with Brazil nuts (unsalted)

Magpiemagpie · 28/03/2018 18:17

strawberries blueberries and raspberry are a good option if you like fruit
Low carb and if you have it with some plain Greek yogurt or Sage it's very filling but low in carbs

123Buckle · 28/03/2018 22:23

Sounds like you're doing great, 10lb is definitely an amazing weight loss in a month! Anymore wouldn't be sustainable - try not to be disheartened.
Maybe it would be better to focus less on the scales and more on an old piece of clothing fitting a bit better etc. That way you can see the progress a bit easier and have something to work toward!
Also to the poster who said muscle does not weigh more than fat - I think what the previous poster meant is that as muscle is denser 1lb of muscle takes up a lot less space than 1lb of fat - so the same volume would weigh more.
Good luck OP!

Roundtumble · 29/03/2018 08:20

Good idea Dragongirl. I do enjoy a bit of dark chocolate. I think another month in maybe and then I'll start back slowly with the sweet stuff.

Thanks 123buckle, I am definitely starting to see definition. Little but it's progress!
Saf1ya I've tried a liquid diet before and it just doesn't work for me. I end up feeling ravenous and then binge. I think what I'm doing at the moment is best for me for now.
Thanks to everyone for the input and advice

I did intermittent fasting 4 days a week, walked for 2 hours, swam and went to the gym 4 or 5 days a week, and never lost more than about 6 lbs a month. I'd say 10 lbs in a month is utterly fantastic.

saltandvinegarcrisps1 · 29/03/2018 08:32

Round - if you are quite overweight you need to watch your fruit intake - especially those you are mentioning which are high in sugar. This will give u insulin spikes and cravings. Fruit these days is genetically modified to contain more sugar so you would be better to snack on raw veg or lean protein pieces. U are doing great so keep it up

LexieLulu · 29/03/2018 09:05

Just remember, your working out is making body muscle.

Look at all that fat? You've lost double that!
