Posting here for traffic. In a pickle. I’m in a hotel v close to Gatwick and I’ve been up all night with horrendous D&V. I need to travel today (not flying, thankfully, train back home) but can’t go anywhere in current state and I’ve got no Imodium. Is anyone nearby who could drop me some off? Hotel staff can’t give out medicine.

Oh and I’m not a poo troll. After the night I’ve had I never want to think about poo ever again!

Hope you feel better soon op. It is awful being so poorly away from home. It happened to me once at a friends house miles from home with only 1 toilet and 2 teenage boys at home who each had 3 or 4 friends over on a sleepover. I ended up camping outside the toilet with a different teenage boy looming over me every hour or so saying "Oh. Your on the floor!". I can laugh about it now

Whatshallwedo It's NOT nonsense. 48 hours is standard to prevent other people catching the bug. The op I imagine is at an airport hotel. She could ruin lots of holidays by travelling today as she will be extremely contagious if still being sick

Fluffyears · 28/03/2018 08:19

I took Imodium for a tummy bug and it made me so ill. It was worse than the bug, my stomach became swollen and hard and my fingernails went blue as all the blood seemed to rush out of my hands. I had terrible wind (last thing you want with the shits!). Let it run its course there is a bug doing the rounds and three people at my work have had it. I get married in two weeks so i’mhoping If I do get it I get it now!

GeorgeTheHippo · 28/03/2018 08:19

You're not going to work. Book another night and go back to bed.

Dumbledoresgirl · 28/03/2018 08:27

Oh god, massive sympathies as I have been in your exact position once. DH and I together had a bug when in a hotel. We took turns for the loo all night. It was awful.

In the morning, he was a bit better than me and was trying to get me to take Imodium so we could drive home. It really isn't the right thing to do and in the end I had to ring NHSdirect and get them to tell him so as he wasn't believing me. Their advice was what everyone is saying here: wait it out.

In the end though, the diarrhoea eased a bit and he persuaded me against my better judgement to get in the car. It was about a 4 hour drive home and I managed it with only one loo stop in a services but I still feel guilty to this day towards the person who followed me in to that loo cubicle.

Rest in bed if you can and book another night. You may surprise yourself and feel better quite quickly.

SluttyButty · 28/03/2018 08:30

You poor thing, my dh has just had that and he looked like a corpse. I made him stay in the house (gave him exclusive use of the downstairs loo) for 48 hrs after the last episode so he didn't contaminate anyone else.

I can't believe someone on here says the 48hr rule is wrong 😱

Flutterbyeee · 28/03/2018 08:35

I reckon you are probably regretting that post. "Endangering lives"???? Goodness me.

hibbledibble · 28/03/2018 08:36

Immodium is zero use in this situation. I'm glad you are just going to wait it out. Just make sure you drink lots of water. If you can get hold of diarolyte that would be helpful.

AlbusPercival · 28/03/2018 08:39

OP I live locally and will be driving past Gatwick in an hour. I also need to get fuel so can get you what you need and drop it with reception?

I have DS with me but happy to help. PM me where you are and what you need

shakeyourcaboose · 28/03/2018 08:47

albus how lovely!

SeaToSki · 28/03/2018 08:47

Try and get some salt and sugars into you. In small amounts with lots and lots of water. Dehydration is a big problem if you have bad d and v. Can you get some gatorade and dilute it 50/50 with water, or some rehydration salts??

Full sugar coke, stirred so the fizz is out and room temp is great at stopping the retching, just a few sips though.

The when you can keep something in you, stick with the BRAT diet
Bananas, rice, apple sauce, toast (plain)

Glumglowworm · 28/03/2018 08:59

I’m glad you’ve decided to stay put. A train journey would be horrendous for you and potentially infect loads of other travellers.

Hope you feel better soon! Being ill away from home is horrible I know Flowers

ImTheMary · 28/03/2018 09:03

Agree that immodium is useless but dioralyte/rehydration sachets are your friend until you can bring yourself to eat. They will make you feel a million times more human.

WorraLiberty · 28/03/2018 09:06

I would phone 111 - you need a GP.

Why? Confused

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 28/03/2018 09:14

OP, as bad as it is, it didn't start when you are flying so you have privacy and some comfort in your hotel room.
If you were flying, and you were was ill 2 days ago, it's highly likely your fellow passengers will have caught it - that's it's not your fault, you can't guess you will be ill before it starts, but well done on postponing the rest of your trip.

diddl · 28/03/2018 09:17

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Lucky you can afford to stay.

Some people would just have to get the train I would think.

Hiring a car, taxi to get immodium?

I'm thinking that that would be a no for a lot of people!

Tailfeather · 28/03/2018 09:33

@AlbusPercival What a lovely offer. X

JaneEyre70 · 28/03/2018 09:37

Well done for staying put OP. Hope you're feeling better soon, lots of fluids when your stomach has settled (I usually wait 4/6 hours after last vomit to start sipping water) and lots of sleep. You'll be fine in the morning but I wouldn't use public transport until the 48 hrs is up.

Flat coke (full sugar one) is good if reception can send it up?

HoneyBadger32 · 28/03/2018 09:37

on what planet can a hotel employee not nip out and buy some imodium?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/03/2018 10:05

@AlbusPercival, for you lovely lady. 💐

QuimReaper · 28/03/2018 10:14

It was about a 4 hour drive home and I managed it with only one loo stop in a services but I still feel guilty to this day towards the person who followed me in to that loo cubicle.

If you washed your hands before and after touching the door handle and flush etc., I don't see why you need to feel guilty. Unless you mean just the grimness factor Grin

OP, if you do manage to get a care package, try and get some Dioralyte too. It should help you feel a bit less ghastly.

I feel so sorry for you, DH once came down with Norovirus in a horrid little B&B in the middle of nowhere. It was miserable for me, let alone him.

(I didn't catch it though. I never do - I take this as evidence of my hyperevolved superpowers.)

Chickenagain · 28/03/2018 10:40

Make sure you have plenty of water - add a half teaspoon of salt & a teaspoon of sugar per litre. If there is a coffee shop attached to the hotel ask for some sachets Keep sipping. Get some fresh air into the room & just sleep.
Poor thing Thanks

Alwayslumpyporridge · 28/03/2018 10:47

I may have missed this but where is the friend that you have travelled with? could she pop over with supplies and help? as she has had the bug she is probably the last likely to catch something from you.

TinDogTavern · 28/03/2018 10:55

Oh @albuspercival that was so kind. I’d managed to fall asleep though! I’m sure I’ll be fine just waiting it out now. Still feeling grim and dizzy but haven’t vommed since 6am and managing to keep water down now.

You’ve all been so kind and helpful! Because I was abroad to do a half marathon, I have an unopened bottle of Powerade in my bag and a couple of race gels. They’re full of sugar and the salts you lose through sweat. Might it be an idea to try and get one of those down?

Can’t believe I’m so ignorant. Like I said, I’m not ill very often, talk about taking health for granted!

OP posts:
TinDogTavern · 28/03/2018 10:57

@alwayslumpyporridge she drove home after we landed. I got a hotel as a treat (ha!) so I could avoid getting home very late.... Shock

OP posts:
SeaToSki · 28/03/2018 11:34

If you drink the powerade, dilute it 50/50. It will be too strong on an empty stomach, but diluted like that, it will be v helpful. Same for race gels, but dilute even further, they are purposely v concentrated
