I am SO embarrassed right now.

The imaginary conversation was between me and a singing idol of mine. We were collaborating on something together when he suddenly announced that he had feelings for me and could no longer work with me, didn't want to cheat on his wife etc.....BlushBlushBlush

I thought my husband had come up to bed 10 mins earlier and only realised when I got upstairs, that he was actually sat in the room off our kitchen!

FUCK!!! This is mortifying. He hasn't mentioned it but he surely heard me!

AIBU to run away and never come back?!

I can't do links on the app on my phone, but it's in classics, called My husband caught me doing something terrible and embarrassing. Smile

Merryoldgoat · 26/03/2018 01:30

This is amazing. I have nothing to add.

Oddcat · 26/03/2018 01:36

I thinks this is it

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 26/03/2018 01:39

That's the one! Thanks Oddcat

Heartbrokengirl14 · 26/03/2018 01:40

I do this! I sometimes pretend I’m a character in my fav tv show, dancing across the kitchen fighting invisible enemies with the washing up brush. It’s harmless imagineation. Also a bit of escapism from mundane life

Sunflowersforever · 26/03/2018 01:41

I'm always practising conversations I intend to have out loud when pottering around, mostly work related to sort of test out what I might say. OH and DD think I'm nuts, to be fair Blush

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 26/03/2018 01:46

I do this all the time and wouldn’t even be embarrassed if my husband saw. He’d think it was funny.

Not sure why people think it’s so weird, should we give up all creativity and imagination once we turn 10? No one would think twice about a young child having fun in this way.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 26/03/2018 02:04

Oh yes, I have many, many, arguments with family members, acquaintances, and sometimes famous people. Normally in the shower where I hope the sound of the water will cover up the expletives.

I used to regularly catch XP talking to himself when he was washing up, he was always smiling and chuckling away, it made me laugh but it also made me happy for him.

kmc1111 · 26/03/2018 02:13

I do this, just not aloud.

It probably is weird. Not sure why so many people here think weird = wrong though.

DiegoMadonna · 26/03/2018 02:30

It's not super weird

No, it is super weird. Only a super weird person would say this is not super weird. Seriously.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 26/03/2018 02:32

Oh yes diego I forgot you were the arbiter of all that is weird. You get the final say in what is and isn’t weird and heaven forbid anyone does anything you don’t personally do.

DiegoMadonna · 26/03/2018 02:35

Calm down.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 26/03/2018 02:41

Uh you’re the one caling stuff super weird so perhaps you’re the one who needs to calm down.

TroubledTribble28 · 26/03/2018 02:50

Diego is just jealous because the voices in her head won't talk to her.
I have a certain much loved erm stuffed toy that has a certain voice (in my head, I'm not hearing things) and every single time I'm in a stressful situation that makes me quite badly shaken she will say something and alleviate the situation Grin now that is super weird with straight jackets on.

NorbertTheDragon · 26/03/2018 02:53

Again, what's wrong with being weird?

It would be a boring world if we were all the same with all the same thoughts and imagination (or lack of)

AliciaSJ · 26/03/2018 02:55

OP, I love this too! Colditz mentioned unhappy childhood and you mentioned a lonely one? I was the same, had an awful childhood and spent most of it in a parallel world where I would be the star of all my stories, acting out all the characters.
This continued well into adulthood!

Somebody also said there's no need to give up on creativity and fantasy over the age of 10 and I agree!

You go girl, and if OH asks, just tell him what you were doing and that all your friends both virtual and IRL do it.

Embrace the weirdity!

Adnerb95 · 26/03/2018 03:21

I had an imaginary friend called Parsley who emigrated to Australia the day I started school. We had all sorts of adventures.

TheDogAndDogAtCrutchley · 26/03/2018 03:29

Wut?

Wildling · 26/03/2018 03:32

Sometimes I catch my DH having conversations with imaginary people while he's washing up and thinks he's alone. It's hilarious! He really gets in to it.

I have to admit, I do it in my head sometimes, usually in the shower. I love a good dramatic argument with someone who has pissed me off while I condition my hair. I always win with style and aplomb. Never stutter or cry or fail to get my point across like I would in real life. It's fun and quite the stress reliever.

I agree with the previous posters, embrace the weirdness!

TheDogAndDogAtCrutchley · 26/03/2018 03:34

Well I agree in principle with letting your Freak Flag Fly but this is kind of bonkers.

WilyMinx · 26/03/2018 03:34

I do this all the time, just not both voices (but I might try this soon). My husband is around sometimes, but never comments so I doubt he is even paying attention. Some husbands have the ability to tune out their wife's voice.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 26/03/2018 04:08

thedog why? How is it so different to an artist painting something they’ve never seen, or a writer writing about made up characters?

It’s the same impulse, just less physical.

TheDogAndDogAtCrutchley · 26/03/2018 04:13

Yeah, I guess.

Shockers · 26/03/2018 04:46

I often rehearse conversations in the car, on the way to work.

I also commentate on tasks I’m doing, in a congratulatory way Grin.

Pecano · 26/03/2018 07:00

I do this all the time - usually I just do my side of the conversation and imagine the response though, not different voices. And I only do it when I’m alone in the house!
