To wallpaper one wall in my living room and bedroom?

I have 1 wall in by bedroom papered and I love it. Personally, I don’t care what is in and what’s not. All that matters is is you like it.

Go for it. I painted one wall in my dining room a lovely rich purple colour and have never looked back.

Have your house as you want it. I've got some really quite garish wallpaper up in my hallway but after renting for years it's lovely to be able to put my own stuff up, and know that i can change it whenever!

You should decorate your home how you choose, but personally it's not for me even when it was fashionable.

Perhaps a wee bit dated. But it totally depends on the paper you choose and the rest of the decor.

I love a good feature wall, I don't care how "common" the mn property gurus think lol. We're papering our alcoves. Decorate how you like. It only dates when you no longer like it.

I have done it in two rooms. One I love. It's a beautiful print in fairly understated colours. The other was never the paper I wanted, it was the only one DH and I could agree was ok. It's been up 4yrs and I really dislike it now. I have been working out how to convince DH I should redec the room (when there is still so much to do over the rest of the house. I'm the DIYer but he'll need to fund it). 3yo DD1 recently drew on one of the painted walls with lip balm, so that's a start, but I think he'll make me wait until 21mo DD2 is potty trained and we finally rip up the nasty carpet. The potties are out of the loft and I've bought a very large bag of chocolate buttons...

Im just not sure. Im tempted for a really clean white room and a new fireplace. But i love my feature wall at the moment.

So what is the current trend if one decorated fearure wall is out?

I think the powers would be would say paper it all or not at all. But really i think a nice paper on one wall can look really nice. I'm doing my kitchen diner soon in (dare i say) white with one wall in a geometric pattern which is all different shades of white. I'm then going to get some green plants and chunky rustic type shelves up to brighten it up.

Purely because I can’t wallpaper for toffee though. Do what you want, it’s your space.

I work for a popular DIY type store and can assure you that plenty of people still have feature walls! Probably 70% of our customers come in with a feature wall idea. Far better than having a different shade of grey for each room - now that would be boring

Whatever floats ta boat but my opinion is keep it neutral!

It's your home, decorate it as you please.

My own view has always been to make my home as comfortable and aesthetically pleasing for my family first and others second.

Just because it’s dated doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to like it. Or if you want to follow the current trend and If you love the wallpaper, why not be brave and just go for it throughout the room?

As a designer, I would say avoid trends full stop as they will always be dated before you are ready to redecorate. Go with what YOU love, whether it's a key trend or not, but don't love it because it's a trend IYSWIM, if you do, it will soon look dated to you too. Your home, your choice, sod everyone else

Im fancying that large rose swirly type pattern. I have an older house that has decent sized bedrooms and i still think four swirly walls would be too much.

Ill have to keep thinking. Im just not sure.

I would only have it white/magnolia/neutral if I was selling - other than that, let your imagination run wild if you want to!

I wondered this as we're currently renovating (with a view to selling in the next 18 months) so I looked at how the newbuilds around are area are styled and without exception all are styled with a feature wall in the bedrooms and most have it in the dining room and living room too (although personally I think it looks a bit overkill so we're doing it in the bedrooms only).

Yes myname!!! Exactly. I cant think of a whole papered room being anything other than squeamish. Unless its the oversized roses that did it.

I just cant decide. Is feometrical patterns the way to go?

We have 4 rooms with wallpaper on just one wall.
Most recently did the baby's room - 3 walls white and 1 papered.

I don't think I know anyone who had a whole room of that wallpaper actuslly!
