Is that now a really dated thing to do?

I have a poppy feature wall in my bedroom it is not subtle but I love a feature wall .

The previous people in our house had painted feature walls in every room in some rather alarming colours. We got rid of it all but I found a couple of rolls of wallpaper that I loved and used it in our bedroom and it really works. Our living room, dining room, hall and landing are all completely wallpapers (a fairly subtle and neutral pattern and background and I really like it).

Not an interior designer Ferris though the principal is always the same & I have done a bit in my time.

You could get away with that, but you are more likely to tire of it quickly, especially when it dates. If you want to move away from 1 feature wall though, how about wallpapering 2 walls, one fire breast & the wall opposite. The rest in a plain paint that picks up a colour in your paper, probably best with a paler shade unless you have a huge, very sunny room. Or mixing up wallpapers and work too, but that's not for the faint hearted, but can work really well

If you don't care about trends, go for it.

If you do - yes, it's very dated.

I have been househunting recently. The one thing i have learned to hate is the fucking feature wall!

Made worse because there seems to be only 3 prints- green with pink flowers, brown with blue flowers, and white with red flowers. Occasionally stripy in a bedroom. I don’t think people realise how it’s all a bit identikit.

I would also keep away from wallpaper due to it being hard to change. If you like feature walls, choose an amazing paint colour. Then if you get bored, or feel it’s dated, or someone buys your house and hates it, it’s a tin of paint and an afternoon.

I did it in our old flat but used some really cool fake concrete wallpaper that gave the place a really cold industrial feel. Edgy.

ferriswheel · 25/03/2018 22:33

That sounds really spectacular but did it not make you feel cold?
