To think this teacher needs to be aware of the odour?

Had to have a meeting re DS; all fine.

But quite honestly, the stench from her was quite something else. I was in a small office and I was so overpowered by smells of garlic and chilli, or something.

It must be awful for the children!

@zzzzz 'pop off and do a pgce in our spare time' I hope you're taking the piss because a PGCE is hard work.

crazycatgal · 23/03/2018 00:08

The posts about not eating garlic or spices if you're coming into contact with people are hilarious. I'm not going to restrict garlic to Friday and Saturday nights - how sad is that.

A bit of garlic and chilli smell on the teacher isn't something to get worked up about.

I've begun to realise that some Mnetters must be bloodhounds. Their sense of smell is so acute. This thread reminds of the one where someone's DD had curry the night before and the 'teacher' told her she stank. Hmm

I must be in the minority as I think it’s rude to eat stinky food (garlic especially) if you’re working in close proximity to others

I'm in that minority, too

I’m in that minority three! Perhaps we aren’t a minority after all. I can’t stand the smell that comes of people when they eaten garlic. It’s revolting.

tinytemper66 · 23/03/2018 07:20

I often eat in the canteen as I do dinner (lunch) duty everyday. I eat the same as the pupils. So I reek, then so do they! 😂

Cheby · 23/03/2018 07:45

OP you are being utterly ridiculous.

And zzzzz I took it to be a complimentary statement about HE. The poster was saying if people don’t like teachers then they can HE and see how much hard work it is! I read it as she was saying educating children, either at school or at home, is not easy and if they attempted HE they would realise that.

I must be in the minority too, I'm a teacher and there's no way I'd have garlic for lunch. And I hate to smell it on someone's breath, it makes me feel sick. I would never say anything, but I'd have been very relieved to leave the small office.

Eolian · 23/03/2018 08:36

School cantines regularly serve garlic bread or curry, which are popular choices with both staff and students, so it doesn't seem to be something most people would fret about.

MollyHuaCha · 23/03/2018 08:36

My DC had a Y4 teacher once who smelt strongly of cigarettes. It was overwhelming and made me feel irritated that the children in the class had to smell that everyday.

Garlic I could live with!

Cheby · 23/03/2018 08:41

zzzzz you seem determined to be offended. None was meant. I hope your day improves.

When I worked as a teacher at a secondary school, one of the parents complained to the Head that I wore too much perfume. There were no issues with asthma.

We had a really good laugh about it in the staff room and the letter was screwed up and binned. Don't be thatparent.

ohhereweareagain · 23/03/2018 14:10

Yup another in the minority. I HATE the smell of garlic and chilli breathe. Yes, chilli does make your breathe stink 😊

kierenthecommunity · 23/03/2018 14:20

I had a geograph teacher who stank of Jamesons and fags in the afternoon and BO in the morning

You sure it wasn’t the history teacher? He taught me in the sixth form

ThanksForAllTheFish · 23/03/2018 14:28

I never understand the hatred of garlic smell. I love the smell of garlic, wild garlic smells particularly nice to me. I never notice the smell of garlic on people. I can smell it in food but never off other people.

I have more issues with the people who douse themselves in half a litre of perfume or use those god awful scent booster things when washing their clothes - guaranteed migraine for me. I’ll take garlic breath over sticky sweet perfume any day.

Yorkshirebetty · 23/03/2018 16:50

I'm imagining the next leadership team meeting at the school - budget cuts, resources, recruitment and retention of staff, Ofsted, progress data, child protection, AEN... And teachers eating garlic GrinGrin
