To think this teacher needs to be aware of the odour?

Had to have a meeting re DS; all fine.

But quite honestly, the stench from her was quite something else. I was in a small office and I was so overpowered by smells of garlic and chilli, or something.

It must be awful for the children!

I'm a 70s child and hat to put up with fag and coffee breath from my teachers. Don't think my DM would ever have raised this as an issue as she had , you know, a life!

Fekko · 22/03/2018 17:46

You don't want to be downwind of me the day after I've had dried garlic.

BrutusMcDogface · 22/03/2018 17:49

I had an RE teacher who fucking STANK of BO. Her room was vile; you could actually taste it. I wish someone had told her (tactfully) because she was not a popular teacher, poor thing.

MsHarry - it was in our contract! Definitely not rubbish

MsHarry · 22/03/2018 17:58

Which employer?

Ollivander84 · 22/03/2018 17:59

Lush cosmetics

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 22/03/2018 18:00

Needs to be aware? As in her manager needs to tell her not to eat spicy food because it upsets your Ds?

GrinGrinGrinHmm

Never going to happen.

MsHarry · 22/03/2018 18:00

HAHAHA HAHAHAHAH Talk about pot and kettle, that place stinks! I hold my breath when I walk past. Can't go inside, it gives me a headache. give me garlic any day! Do shop assistants get close in there then??

manicinsomniac · 22/03/2018 18:02

YABU - she probably just ate and hadn't had time to brush her teeth. And you're probably more sensitive to smells atm - it may not have been that bad.

Ridiculous for people to suggest racism though - if the OP had said curry then yah, okay, might have been racist insinuation as, unfortunately, people do often use 'curry smell' comments as racist slurs. But she said garlic or chili. Those two foods don't even denote the same kind of ethnic cuisine. And garlic in particular is more associated with Italian food than anything else. Both garlic and chili are widely eaten by all ethnicities. There was absolutely nothing in the OP to suggest an ethnicity angle.

Another poster changed 'garlic and chili' to 'curry and chili' for some reason which made it sound a lot more suspicious - but that's not the OP's fault!

Ollivander84 · 22/03/2018 18:02

Ms - yes, if you're doing stuff like face masks etc you can be in someone's personal space a lot

RavenWings · 22/03/2018 18:05

Dear Diary,

Today I had to cope with a terrible first world problem...

Trailedanderror · 22/03/2018 18:07

@Eolian, @MsHarry
I can think of several ‘no garlic on a school night’ friends. High profile or very ‘under scrutiny’ roles. Out of courtesy I always chew gum, wash hands etc. if I’m going to be 1:1 with a client or colleague platter lunch.

RavenWings · 22/03/2018 18:07

A teacher that is also a MiL would probably make this forum implode.

Add on her also being a stepmother to that. Who doesn't provide updates or diagrams on a thread.

I must be in the minority as I think it’s rude to eat stinky food (garlic especially) if you’re working in close proximity to others.

I don’t feed the kids anything garlicky unless it’s Friday night or Saturday!! Blush

And I certainly don’t eat spicy or garlicky food myself very often as I bloody reek the next day. Blush 😷

Steeley113 · 22/03/2018 18:22

I’ve smelled the stenches made by my DS and it’s the teacher I feel sorry for having 30 kids breaking wind in her class Grin

You had to have a meeting with the teacher and the problem is that the teacher smells?

You may want to rethink your priorities.

Alexkate2468 · 22/03/2018 18:28

Try being a teacher walking into the wall of fart created by a Y6 class after lunch. Delightful.

OP, pregnant or not you can't complain that a teacher smelt of her lunch. Good grief woman 😂.

Sparklesocks · 22/03/2018 18:32

It was probably just a one off, she had her lunch just before she met you. Think it would just embarrass/upset her if you brought it up!

only39p · 22/03/2018 18:32

My fave teacher reeked of fags and garlic, damn good teacher he was.

Fekko · 22/03/2018 18:33

My p1 teacher smelled very strongly of cigarettes and coffee. I never knew what it was until I worked for a man who smoke and drank strong coffee and it all came flooding back!

Skatingfastonthinice · 22/03/2018 18:36

Tell your son it’s useful training for the future. I’d been a teacher for 5 years before having a baby. I had no idea what truly foul stenches were possible until my farting, shitting possessing cherub arrived. Y6 paled into insignificance by comparison.

mappoftheworld · 22/03/2018 18:36

Thanks. I was just surprised as I thought, surely the kids must comment on how bad she smells (not that I think that's acceptable, but why make life difficult for yourself?)
