*Re: the #fannyadmin. MOD did say however you want your fanny to be whether waxed, hairy etc etc is fine and totally up to the person. She WASN'T saying that waxed was the only way to go.

See this is where some people on here come across as just being haters-- the whole picture isn't discussed and things are just taken out of context to have something to be negative about.*

I think the context was yes, do your own thing, but I guess I think as a spokesperson for midwifery this isn’t the kind of ‘admin’ that is responsible to talk about, especially littered with links to products and salons. I’m not a hater, I don’t think that’s fair, I just think it’s important to address what influencing means.

Stellastartsitall · 26/03/2018 17:11

That's a common scenario @adidasgirl

heateallthebuns · 26/03/2018 17:12

I don't really understand what the problem is exactly. It's obviously just another form of advertising like glossy magazines, tv adverts etc. I follow people on Instagram and I buy magazines. I'm don't mind them trying to sell something. At this stage most people know it's all just another form of advertising.

Stellastartsitall · 26/03/2018 17:14

Again missing the point, a ad on TV, magazine is blatantly obvious and you are allowed to moan about a product

Mandeln · 26/03/2018 17:16

Adidasgirl that's appalling! You should have gone to trading standards about it!

heateallthebuns · 26/03/2018 17:17

It's just as obvious lots of instagram is an advert. Explain the point about moaning about a tv / magazine advert as opposed to an Instagram one to me?

heateallthebuns · 26/03/2018 17:17

Sorry product.

PavlovaPrincess · 26/03/2018 17:21

@BettyDimples I agree, I think.

You only have to look at some of the threads on MN people worrying about whether they should shave or wax before giving birth/having a smear.

I think in the context of MOD's job, that's one piece of her life she could have kept to herself.

BettyDimples · 26/03/2018 17:24

@PavlovaPrincess yes. It could actually impact negatively on people getting smears if suddenly it’s a worry what their pubes are doing!

shesakeeper · 26/03/2018 17:24

heateallthebuns - happy with being advertised at if it's correctly labelled and declared according to ASA regs.

If I had bought a product shown by a instagrammer and it was not as the recommendation claimed. I would be blocked for querying it on Instagram.

Mamamagellanic · 26/03/2018 17:31

@fiftydollarbill Do you believe everyone who says they want to help other people is disingenuous? My instagram is about my DD and her miraculous life. I genuinely want to help people, for people going through similar to relate to me, or to merely inspire and to remind people to be thankful they and their children can walk, talk and eat. I don't have a huge following, even if I did I'd feel uncomfortable getting sent 'freebies' - I'm in it for spreading awareness and connecting with other severe SN parents.

heateallthebuns · 26/03/2018 17:31

What are the actual rules about whether they have to declare something is advertising? What are the rules for product placement on tv and movies?
If something is not as described or faulty that would be a trading standards issue wouldn't it? Are current rules inadequate in this respect?

That pubes thing with mod is very worrying. Wouldn't that be an infringement of professional standards for registered nurses / midwives?

Mrsdoubleskulls · 26/03/2018 17:35

Adidas

I was so close to asking for one of those bags for Christmas, but was put off when people on the Bloggers and Brands thread gave me their honest opinions on the quality (you may have been one of them?). I certainly appreciated the transparency.

Fruitbowl2 · 26/03/2018 17:35

Buns - www.asa.org.uk/news/online-influencers-is-it-an-ad.html

Pretty clear rules. Dated August 2017. I'm pretty sure only some of the instamums are even complying now, half the time.

howthelightgetsin · 26/03/2018 17:38

Evsandme to me these profit making Instagram feeds are exactly like TV or magazines.
I’m allowed to discuss X factor either privately or online aren’t I and say I didn’t like the week’s episode as much as last week? Or judge x annoys me. Or the ad break seemed too long.
And we can discuss magazine output and disagree with articles and columns without people jumping on us saying WELL DON’T READ IT THEN!
Why can’t I say that I like a fair amount of MOD and FOD’s output however sometimes I find him too smug. And I hate the asking for recommendations posts because they are asking for freebies. And the cereal advert was particularly poor. Why is that unacceptable?

heateallthebuns · 26/03/2018 17:39

Aha thanks!

What make of bag was it?!?

LucreziaBoredYa · 26/03/2018 17:43

I haven't read enough of this as I should but the Insta-mums that crop up on my feed do come across a bit wanky.

A bit like David Brent from the Office - just really not self-aware.

In fact that could be a new series like People Just Do Nothing but Instamums instead Grin.

Fruitbowl2 · 26/03/2018 17:44

For a pro insta thing I bought one of those selfish mother t-shirts because of the charitable aspect. Although I wouldn't wear it in public (with my kids, it's pretty obvious I am, and why tell others when I'm not) but it's excellent quality and very comfy.

Fruitbowl2 · 26/03/2018 17:46

Oh Brilliant Bored yes yes yes, that would be hilarious! Any tv people following this thread?!

LucreziaBoredYa · 26/03/2018 17:52

I hope so Smile

PavlovaPrincess · 26/03/2018 18:05

For those who aren't bothered about being advertised to/at, I wonder how many know about affiliate links?

I think there was one today on Mrs Meldrum's Insta Story. When they show a product and tell you to 'swipe up' and it takes you to a website, if you buy something, the blogger gets a percentage of the sale. Not only that, the links can stay in your cookies so if you then go back to that website for a completely different item on a different day (not influenced by the blogger) they still get a percentage of the sale.

And guess what? These aren't being declared to the audience either. I think this pisses me off more than stuff that's not being marked as an ad or gift.

VileyRose · 26/03/2018 18:05

I wouldn't use brave to describe them. They are not showing their ' real' lives just staged things. They usually never answer questions about over showing the children etc etc

Ultimategirlgang recommends stuff sometimes and it's all SO pricey.

VileyRose · 26/03/2018 18:06

@Pavlova that's awful RE swipe up Confused

Babaloo88 · 26/03/2018 18:13

That is cheeky @pavolaprincess! They should definitely disclose that. Mod’s first holiday post was very poor. If I was the one who gave her the holiday, I would be pretty pissed off...
