Interested to read this in the Guardian today

Just looked them up. They're a bit too cringe for me. How did they get so many followers in the first place? Confused

LBOCS2 · 22/03/2018 09:56

MOD had a well followed blog called Gas and Air - she's a midwife (and a very good one, by all accounts, I know a couple of people who have had babies delivered by her). I think it all sort of snowballed from there.

I thought it was very interesting that MP has deliberately chosen now to take her elder off Instagram, until she's old enough to 'consent'. It's a fine balance though really - you're part of that tribe through your children but you don't want to expose them so much. And that may have been some of the thinking with the twins vs the older girls on FOD's Insta.

(incidentally, did anyone see Caitlin Moran protecting her daughter's anonymity at Hamilton recently? It made me laugh).

AdidasGirl · 22/03/2018 10:20

Not only does FOD look way older than 36.He is not likable enough to be a presenter.

Mumofkids · 22/03/2018 10:23

@Bitchqueen90 - he was quite funny and his followers adore him...

PavlovaPrincess · 22/03/2018 10:42

It's so weird all the people who come on to shut down discussion. I didn't call FOD a wanker, but he's thrived off it, he doesn't give a crap

I agree, it's weird. Although I think he actually did give a crap, despite saying he didn't hence his story detailing all the definitions of the word. But still... I kind of admire the way he handled it. He addressed it and moved on. He didn't come on here calling us all mean girls and trying to shut the debate down.

He got his wife to do it instead Wink

Mumofkids · 22/03/2018 10:46

Pavlova 🤣 Well yes I think he gave a crap originally but when the #notawanker started and he cheered up. I still haven't got over his stories on that to be honest. Made me see him in a different light!

PavlovaPrincess · 22/03/2018 10:50

Also, MP was on the bloggers and brands thread this morning and I think she'll be back on IG soon.

Interestingly, she said that the reason PP has taken over her account while she was away is because of contractual obligations to some of the brands they've been working with (amongst other reasons).

kirinm · 22/03/2018 11:03

I personally don't have an opinion on them featuring their kids. Most of the instamums have cute kids and I'm constantly broody. My gripe has always been the selling and the lack of respect for people who followed them before they became a 'business'. I was following because that's what Instagram was about. I'm not a consumer to have adverts thrown at me only to be told if I don't like it, I can fuck off. There's definitely more transparency now but most of them still try and hide stuff - except toomuchmotheringinformation who shouts it out which I much prefer. Anyway, I've unfollowed a few including MOD & FOD now.

Love MP though. Also love PP and his epic cheese and chorizo sandwich tutorial. I like not being sold stuff basically. And MP has been through some shit that I can totally relate to.

Fruitbowl2 · 22/03/2018 16:26

Mumofkids 😂 So spot on. I deleted Instagram because it was so annoying, but was drawn back by the threads here about the 'influencers'. It's all much more amusing with this running commentary now (like watching the Brits while following twitter for the generally hilarious commentary!).

I assume the 'instamums' are doing the reverse, by popping up here and then doing those passive aggressive posts (that their gushing followers don't get 🤣

Mumofkids · 22/03/2018 16:40

@fruitbowl2 I imagine you are correct! I've no idea why people keep getting so upset about instamums threads (some on aibu are mental and so are some comments!)

Fluffypurpleslipper · 22/03/2018 17:45

It’s all been quiet on the Inta-mum/Dad feeds the last few days in relation to us critics.

shesakeeper · 22/03/2018 17:53

Had to unfollow Scummy Mummies because, even though I find them funny, I'm just not interested in being flogged Experian or Dorset Cereals or espresso martinis at Balans.

Why can they just be funny and do their live shows like they used to?
Why can't MoD focus on the midwifery like she used to?
Why must we be sold to?

HeyRoly · 22/03/2018 17:55

That's exactly why I unfollowed Scummy Mummies. They never tag their ads either.

shesakeeper · 22/03/2018 18:00

If they're so good at writing funny ads they should ditch the catsuits and just go and write copy for large ad agencies, it'd be a much more honest way of selling theirs souls to the money devil.

Or keep the catsuits and continue to write and perform funny material - minus the stealth advertising.

I think we all parent and earn our money differently. Sometimes I feel these threads have a tinge of jealousy in them.

KimchiLaLa · 22/03/2018 18:02

I've recently come across the fashion bug blog and I just don't know what to make of her (that is all).

shesakeeper · 22/03/2018 18:03

Hell yeah I'm jealous! Where's my free washing machine just for being a mum?

shesakeeper · 22/03/2018 18:14

These women (and men, looking at you FoD) claim to be parents just like you and me, but glancing at their feeds and stories over just a month reveals lifestyles that are v far removed from the people they are talking to (targeting?) on their social media profiles.

Endless free meals, drinks, clothes, cosmetics, hotel stays. Numerous get togethers with similarly privileged (usually white) women to promote brands and drink free gin. Shout outs to anyone that sends them freebies. Fake attempts at engagement to seem like they're actual humans and not walking advertisements.

Then, inevitably, they write a book which they promote for a few months before realising they'll earn more money flogging Kenco in their stories. So back to more ads. Free holidays. Etc etc.

Get. A. Job.

You are right that most of the successful ones are white and it would be fantastic to see all races.

Everything else sounds more about you than the Inst crew tbh. A bit odd Hmm

mammyoftwo · 22/03/2018 18:24

Mrs Meldrum.................thoughts?

shesakeeper · 22/03/2018 18:27

More of the same. Kid pics n gin ads. Yawn.

OP posts:
shesakeeper · 22/03/2018 18:32

issaflame well it's my opinion, so of course it's about me. I don't expect everyone to agree, it's v obvious that most don't. I just see privileged bullshit and like to call it out from time to time.

Fluffypurpleslipper · 22/03/2018 18:33

Mrs Meldrum looks very young, fresh and swishy of hair.

For that I prefer Scummy Mummies, who look more like me!

mammyoftwo · 22/03/2018 18:37

Lo

yearrp ago i asked in a q and a about child protection issues (she was new to it and telling viewers such as name of dds nursery etc, in a small place, easy to find) she totally played dumb, disreguarded it as a possible problem

mammyoftwo · 22/03/2018 18:38

*lol
