To hope Ant

Gets the help he needs and gets his life back on track. Glad no one was hurt in the incident and hope to see him back on the TV with Dec as soon as he’s better. To not sneer and be gleeful at the implosion of another human being or so glad that a ‘national treasure’ has shown himself to be fragile.

No one has excused his behaviour. No one.

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 21/03/2018 13:29

Bluelady - can you answer this question:

Do you think it is OK to drive around a corner, at speed, on the wrong side of the road, in a residential area, if you are sober?

Because if the answer is "no," will you stop bleating on about him not having been charged for drink driving. He was clearly driving extremely badly.

And if the answer is "yes", I hope to God you don't have a driving licence!

Bluelady · 21/03/2018 13:34

Firstly, I'm not "bleating", simply stating facts which the majority of you seem to find inconvenient. I'm not defending drunk or dangerous driving - and would never dream of doing so.

I am, however, pointing out that the police haven't charged Ant McPartlin with any offence and appear to be in no hurry to do so. Is that a fact? Yes or no?

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 21/03/2018 13:40

He was taken to the police station for ten hours because of an accident that he caused, which could have had horrific consequences. He has now rushed off to rehab despite serious consequences for his career, his best friend's career, his show and all the staff who depend on it. Do you think those are the actions of someone who did nothing wrong?

Like a PP, I know that road inside out (as several of my friends live just off it and we used to take our budgies down there for their pedicures there every few months!). It's incomprehensible to me how anyone could take the risk of driving like that around there. Have you seen it?

italiancortado · 21/03/2018 13:43

To prove someone is drunk, they have to take two breath tests, the second one at the police station,

Omg we know!!

That does not change the fact he was over when tested at the roadside

Mydoghatesthebath · 21/03/2018 13:45

Budgies for a pedicure?

Sorry that made me laugh despite the serious tone. Do budgies need pedicures often?

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 21/03/2018 13:48

Ha - it's toenail trimming really, and yes they do, as otherwise their little feet can get stuck on your jumper/carpets etc.

You can do it yourself really easily, but our boys are a bit wriggly and I'd rather pay an expert a tenner than risk looping off a poor budgie toe!

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 21/03/2018 13:49

(In the wild of course the trees etc keep them filed, but as ours are fat lazy feckers who mostly like to sit in or on top of their cage and sing and eat seeds all day, they need a bit of help Grin)

I am sympathetic to his addiction issues. Some of my family are addicts, one of my childhood friends died due to addiction. Anyone battling with the disease has my utmost sympathy.

I don't feel sorry for the situation he chose to place himself and others in by getting behind the wheel but I do think he should be allowed to continue with his career once he is well enough.

Very few careers would be ended by a drink-driving conviction. Ant should be treat as any member of the public would be. His punishment should be proportionate to the crime and inline with what others charged with the same offense would face. He shouldn't be made an example of because he is famous and he shouldn't be given a lighter punishment because he is famous. Ditto his career, unless there are aspects of it that would disqualify him due to a driving conviction (which I don't think there are) then he should be supported to return in time.

purplelass · 21/03/2018 13:58

Dec's going to present the last two shows without Ant!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-43487792

It's going to be emotional... Sad

PortiaCastis · 21/03/2018 13:59

Why on earth is it emotional

CuboidalSlipshoddy · 21/03/2018 14:00

I am, however, pointing out that the police haven't charged Ant McPartlin with any offence and appear to be in no hurry to do so.

He is, apparently, at the police station now.

I would suspect they are weighing up charging him with dangerous driving, if the reports of the speed are true. Leaving aside the near-impossibility of "losing control" of a car fitted with modern stability control, it's doubly unlikely at 30mph, which was the prevailing limit. If he was driving at 60mph, as is reported, then it's at least plausible to charge him with dangerous driving, and they may as well charge him all at once. He's got form for driving like a complete arsehole on the public roads, so it would hardly be a surprise.

purplelass · 21/03/2018 14:02

Why on earth is it emotional

For Dec I meant - he's always had Ant next to him when presenting, I just think it's going to be tough for him...
'Ant versus Dec' might be a bit of a landslide though Grin

QuackPorridgeBacon · 21/03/2018 14:09

Why are some of you so awful and bringing his career into it? You wouldn’t tell the average joe to give up their job in similar circumstances. He should be punished for his crime but he also needs help. Being vile makes some of you look really nasty.

italiancortado · 21/03/2018 14:14

Why are some of you so awful and bringing his career into it? You wouldn’t tell the average joe to give up their job in similar circumstances.

Family shows, squeaky clean image, public persona?

No?

Hygge · 21/03/2018 14:20

You shouldn't assume that you know more than any of us, OP.

I'm sorry your DD was injured. Mine died.

You don't speak for everyone. Not everyone condemning his decision to drink and drive is 'gleeful' about this. I think most are just sick at the thought of how much worse it could have been, how much worse it could be next time, and are sick of seeing him get all the sympathy when the people he crashed into are being taunted on-line for an ordeal that wasn't their fault.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 21/03/2018 14:21

But no one has a perfect family?

QuackPorridgeBacon · 21/03/2018 14:23

To be honest I cannot argue anything because I agree he is in the wrong an direction a ban until better would be wise. I just don’t think his whole career should suffer if he can get better.

catinboots9 · 21/03/2018 14:24

Daily mail are reporting he has not been charged

italiancortado · 21/03/2018 14:24

But no one has a perfect family?

It is nothing to do with having a perfect family. It's about the character ITV are presenting to us on their prime time shows.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 21/03/2018 14:25

I’m annoyed that the family he crashed into are being taunted. Why?

QuackPorridgeBacon · 21/03/2018 14:26

Ok. Fair enough. I just don’t assume everyone on tv to be a role model.

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 21/03/2018 14:26

I was sad about that too, quack, but could only actually find one story about one troll in "the sun" - hoping there's no more.

italiancortado · 21/03/2018 14:27

I just don’t assume everyone on tv to be a role model.

That's because not all of them are. But Ant and Dec are given to us as just that.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 21/03/2018 14:28

OP

As many PP have requested, are you going to actually link to any of the many 'gleeful' and 'taking pleasure in sneering' comments that you've based this entire thread on?
