This is a quote of Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon has a number of quotes when Read through the lens of Trump are eerily prescient. Napoleon wasn’t of the same political bent as Trump necessarily, and he was certainly more cerebral, but the lust for power is the same.

Or maybe I’ve got this backwards and it’s facebook who has the responsibility to tell you how they will use your data if you log onto mumsnet using a Facebook account?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/03/2018 07:42

I've asked some of these questions and others here, I've done a little GDPR training, but only in how much applies to small businesses:

Interesting... I am a low level FB user (just for connecting to far flung rellies and the DCs) and I never ever log into anything via FB despite constant prompts.

I always watch Sky News followed by BBC and BBC had nearly 10 minutes on Analytica/FB and yet Sky did not even mention it at all. Strange. I read somewhere that all this date was harvested and relevant ads targeted through these stupid personality tests etc. I never do those either.

cozie love the political insults!

No Alexa in this house but fb? Well fukit. I use FB a lot as a general family notice board (family scattered over 3 continents), It’s all fairly light and fluffy as I tend to treat it as being as private as conversation on a crowded bus. I log into lots of apps using FB including MN, Twitter and MFP and various newspapers Blush

I’m as boring as hell and although I know that I am “the product” I tend to have a bit of a so what attitude to that - maybe time to rethink that!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/03/2018 08:03

It may be as well to lurk on the thread I've created lettuce, in case it leads us to more of an understanding of the issue.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/03/2018 08:04

(plus at the moment it only looks like two of us are interested in it on the site stuff thread!)

Roussette · 20/03/2018 08:05

It's interesting because my adult DCs will not have an Alexa, Amazon echo etc... youngest DD thinks it's invasive, she says every command is recorded and that includes fractions of conversations before and after. You can access these conversations and apparently it records far more than you would imagine.

$37bn wiped off FB

I think I will do that Badkitten, after I’ve ran this mornings errands.

DH and I were talking about the CA/FB scandal last night and whether it’s killed off Zuckerberg’s nascent presidential ambitions. How could you trust that he and his competitors were campaigning on a level playing field?

Tonight's C4 news will be er... interesting.

Last night's allegations of dirty tricks to trap opponents made me wonder who might have been compromised in the UK and US. It might explain a lot, and be clearer for people to understand than data stealing which people see as very technical. On an LBC phone in yesterday, people were hugely sceptical about illegal data gathering and on line manipulation. Of course they knew it happened, but who cared?

Stormy, Mueller and CA/FB - what a week and what will SCROTUS do to distract attention? The Austin thing is worrying, and will possibly overshadow it all.

boatyardblues · 20/03/2018 11:44

Last night's allegations of dirty tricks to trap opponents made me wonder who might have been compromised in the UK and US.

As I listened to Corbyn yet again equivocating about Russia’s involvement about the Salisbury nerve agent incident, I was reminded of Trump’s similar equivocation about Salisbury and waiting on the facts. It made me wonder if Corbyn could be compromised. He’s so tone deaf to the fury in his own party and the wider country, I’m struggling to understand why is sitting on the fence over this.

boatyardblues · 20/03/2018 11:45

^ On the news this morning - I should have said.

Gumpendorf · 20/03/2018 12:18

I wasn't thinking of Corbyn boatyard, but you could be right. I had assumed Corbyn's reluctance was because of his (or at least Seamus Milne's) 'admiration' for the USSR and not recognising how much Russia has changed , but mainly because of Iraq, the dodgy dossier and a suspicion of what the govt was trying to do. I don't agree, but I can see how far Iraq has poisoned the well.

I was thinking of a member of the Cabinet, who may or may not have pulled out of the leadership election because there was compromat, allegedly. whistles

Gumpendorf · 20/03/2018 12:20

Oh and some senior members of Congress who were outspoken against Trump but seem to have lost their backbone. Shock
