I am a 41-year old feminist who's done all the reading about socialisation and gender stereotyping and yadda yadda yadda. DH put a magnetic knife strip up in the kitchen yesterday and was looking all solid and competent whilst wielding a drill and wearing a jumper. I was overcome by a desire to shag him.*

I'm hormonal and it had been a while, so I'm hoping that that was what was behind it, rather than me contemplating a future where I am turned on by the sight of fortysomething men engaged in minor acts of DIY. Saying that, I've asked him to think about putting up some shelves

*Unfortunately we have friends, and they were on their way.

I used to go out with a tree surgeon. I did like watching him work....

Dh works in a lab. Not the same.

MrsHathaway · 18/03/2018 23:34

I think it’s because forearms are like the male equivalent of cleavage and the passenger seat reversing move shows them off

I do love a good forearm.

Probably explains the gear changing thing too. We have automatics nowadays Sad

Gudgyx · 18/03/2018 23:38

Yes I’ve been a walking hormone the past few days and this thread has me all flustered.

DP is a lorry driver, seeing him behind the wheel of a large vehicle makes my vagina chew my leg (no other phrase sums it up quite as well)

I also work with a lot of tradesmen. Seeing a guy hard at work doing his trade is the most attractive thing ever, working there was hard to get used to!

SundayGirls · 18/03/2018 23:43

I was quite delirious with desire when my DH quickly parked his fairly large car into a tiny space between two parked cars with a busy queue of traffic behind and a lot of bystanders (so, no pressure then).

It looked like it wouldn't fit a Smart car in and I said so at the time, DH was all Hmm and just casually and efficiently parked it in one smooth movement like rolling a toy car into a toy garage.

Weak at the knees I was Smile

Raretheyare · 18/03/2018 23:53

Yes! Yes! But did he put his arm behind the passenger seat to do it
SundayGirls ?
That's the most important thing to quite a few of us on here.

OutsideContextProblem · 18/03/2018 23:54

Ooh the fast cheffy chopping thing! DH is a pretty good cook with slight Heston Blumenthal tendencies, and I’m sure he’d like a knife skills day course for his birthday...

LucreziaBoredYa · 18/03/2018 23:57

Were you ovulating Grin?

LucreziaBoredYa · 18/03/2018 23:59

I could make sexy friends with a lamppost when I feel that way.

Need a name change.

FlyMaybe · 18/03/2018 23:59

My DH used to be seen in a suit with a hard hat and a clipboard on construction sites. It made me quite weak at the knees. Especially if he had wellies on.

These days he's more likely to be seen in the exec lounge at the airport, quaffing complimentary G&Ts. I do miss the hard hat.

That sounds like when Homer bought Marge a bowling ball she never asked for with Homer printed on it.Smile

LucreziaBoredYa · 19/03/2018 00:01

Ooh yes, a bit of Hard Hat.

lastkisstoo · 19/03/2018 00:03

LanguidLobster

Same!

BuzzKillington · 19/03/2018 00:07

Hmm, mine has muscly arms and a Tag watch (bought by me), but he would never wear a mimsy short sleeved shirt.

He spent a day splitting wood a couple of weeks ago. It was very manly and competent. He has moaned about his back ever since though.

LucreziaBoredYa · 19/03/2018 00:09

But why was he really moaning about his back Buzz? Fess up.

LBOCS2 · 19/03/2018 00:09

I once slept with someone because he was really good at Sudoku Blush. We were sitting in an airport together and he was powering through the really hard ones while we were waiting for our flight to be called (I didn't shag him there, I hasten to add). I just watched him. I like people to be really good at stuff, it is the sexiest.

Mr LBOCS can play the guitar and has quite a good voice. I very much like it when he sits and just has a fiddle about with it. Nice arms. Competence. Yes please.

Also, is anyone keeping up with the US episodes of Grey's Anatomy? Last week there was a scene with Kevin McKidd, that I'm fairly sure led to a LOT of men feeling very lucky that evening. It was extremely masculine and competent and a little military all at once.

Ski40 · 19/03/2018 00:19

Lol this reminds me of the Property Brothers. Who is the sexiest one? The one in the suit or the one with the..... tools? (Swoons) 😍

NomDeWho · 19/03/2018 00:48

To all my arm behind the seat fans, just wanted to alert you of a live action shot in tonight’s Homeland (Channel 4)) episode.

He was wearing a jacket so no forearm on show but very competent looking. It’s a new character and I haven’t been particularly interested in him but I instantly found myself thinking “well, yes, he is very attractive”.

Homeland is excellent for Competency Porn, although previous series have more of it.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 19/03/2018 01:04

I have that debate with myself as well ski I think the one with the tools just edges it! And the fact he loves dogs as well makes me come over all unnecessary!

OutsideContextProblem · 19/03/2018 07:15

Giving DH a knife skills course wouldn’t be be like Marge’s bowling ball at all - it’s much more like when creepy boyfriends get you “sexy” lingerie as a present but it’s actially for their benefit.

MaidenMotherCrone · 19/03/2018 07:37

The arm resting on the back of the seat is nothing compared to a biker with his hand on his thigh waiting for the lights to change.

Takes it to a whole different level when you are on the back of said bike and he puts his hand on your thigh. Yum!

MySockIsWetAgain · 19/03/2018 08:21

My DH also tried to put up some shelves at Christmas. Our sex life is only now slowly recovering.

Dandellion · 19/03/2018 11:03

Our previous NDN was an army engineer. He had lots and lots of big tools, and would often potter about in old combats with a tool belt slung round his hips. Once he fixed DDs scooter while I gazed on lustfully admiringly and rubbed a slightly oily hand across his chin. It took all my strength not to lunge at him and luck the oil off. I think I may well have been ovulating at the time.

Nice try MirriVan
I obviously fall out of this category as although I competently re-roofed the house (wearing a 'Villiage people toolbelt) plus digging big holes, woodwork, brickwork, lots of things involving power tools you name it nothing came of the labours.
Perhaps when DW came in from work and helped whip up another batch of concrete she was a bit tired? Now she has the nice house and I start again on my own, hey ho!
