I am a 41-year old feminist who's done all the reading about socialisation and gender stereotyping and yadda yadda yadda. DH put a magnetic knife strip up in the kitchen yesterday and was looking all solid and competent whilst wielding a drill and wearing a jumper. I was overcome by a desire to shag him.*

I'm hormonal and it had been a while, so I'm hoping that that was what was behind it, rather than me contemplating a future where I am turned on by the sight of fortysomething men engaged in minor acts of DIY. Saying that, I've asked him to think about putting up some shelves

*Unfortunately we have friends, and they were on their way.

The Jack Russell is currently being discussed on another thread...it's a dry hump!

blaaake · 18/03/2018 14:49

Yep. But I get turned on when there's a builder or workman in my house too. Blush has issues

TheXXFactor · 18/03/2018 14:52

Point of info: is it called Jack Russelling after the dog or the cricketer? I need to know Smile

Wintertime4 · 18/03/2018 14:54

Ha ha!

Nothing unfeminist at all about appreciating a man and his drill prowess! It’s not about being asexual. Ask him to do some more jobs around the house... it’s a massive win win. Grin

FizzyGreenWater · 18/03/2018 14:56

My DH once had a drill in his hand whilst wearing a kilt and a jumper.

aaaaargh

TheSassyAssassin · 18/03/2018 14:56

Well def the dog on the other thread...unless there's something you need to share XX? Grin

PoorYorick · 18/03/2018 14:58

I'm a feminist and I love a man who gets shit done, no contradiction there. I read threads on here by women with useless lazy partners and without wishing to victim blame, I just can't understand how they were ever attracted to them.

DameDoom · 18/03/2018 14:58

Competent DIY is always very sexy... I do draw the line when DH tries to shag the middle aisles of Lidl and Aldi though ... to desperate and wanton for my likes despite the amazing bargains.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 18/03/2018 14:59

I usually demand my husband sleeps with me when he’s all oily from doing the car Grin

DameDoom · 18/03/2018 14:59

too

TheXXFactor · 18/03/2018 14:59

Well, I'm quite partial to cricket whites....Blush

This. It doesn't have to be 'manly' stuff - I love a man who's a good cook, for example. But nothing freezes my ovaries like an incompetent man-child.

mimibunz · 18/03/2018 15:16

@IvanovaIsAlwaysRights

The Jack Russelling thread is why I love Mumsnet. Grin

Dionysus78 · 18/03/2018 15:20

NomDeWho

I thought I was the only one with the arm-over-the-passenger-seat-when-reversing fetish.

TheSassyAssassin · 18/03/2018 15:21

The JR thread has taken a bit of a turn though....

Ah yes, the sound of balls on willow and men in white diving around on the grass....don't mind the odd game of cricket...though if am being totally honest largely for the tea and homemade cake....

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 18/03/2018 15:25

Oooh, I know what you mean. Last weekend my husband was wielding a chainsaw and an axe, cutting large hedges down before spring, whilst wearing a old pair of faded jeans and a navy cable knit sweater, his curly dark was all tousled with sweat. He looked remarkably like Tom Good. I could not contain myself.

UpstartCrow · 18/03/2018 15:25

Did he look all serious and granite jawed?

crunchymint · 18/03/2018 15:30

This is the eroticisation of dominance. It is what patriarchy teaches us to do.

Sidge · 18/03/2018 15:32

Nom and Dionysus I'll join the reversing club too.

I love it when DP does that; he's a really good driver and it makes me come over all unnecessary when he does the arm-behind-the-headrest thing.

He's shit at DIY but a great cook, I also get the gallops when he's cooking up a storm whilst I sit there with a glass of wine. And when he's working from home and I hear him on the phone being all businesslike and masterful, speaking in his work-language.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 18/03/2018 15:33

Yes I find driving really sexy too! Hoping DH gets his licence back soon

halfwitpicker · 18/03/2018 15:34

I'd find it sexy of a man said quid pro quo in the right context tbf

halfwitpicker · 18/03/2018 15:34

If a man, obviously

Dandellion · 18/03/2018 15:39

I come over all unecessary if DH is driving in a short sleeved shirt and wearing his chunky Tag Heur watch.

Stayandfight · 18/03/2018 15:39

He needs to do some drilling in the summer. In shorts. Nothing else.

We all need to come round and watch. Then in the evening we can burn our feminism membership cards around the camp fire.
