To be uncomfortable about the use of this image in Clark's?

This is a slightly weird one, so I'm prepared to get laughed at / flamed, but here goes...
The child in the attached image (at least I hope it's attached) is "W" sitting. Now where it's very good for showing off the shoes, it's also developmentally a really bad position for kids to sit in, and one that parents / guardians should be actively discouraging kids to use, unless it's just for a really short period of time. It can indicate weakness in the hips and trunk. Am I a little silly for thinking that they shouldn't have the child in this position in their advertising??
Disclaimer; am an AHP so I NOTICE these things!

Christ ... Hmm

MadRainbow · 17/03/2018 16:11

Definitely to be actively discouraged in hypermobile children, though how to tell if they are, unless you have previous knowledge, should be down to a professional in which case I suppose discouraging it in all children helps there.

Still more inclined to agree with PP that the fact the little girl looks sad is the bigger issue - not that best ad

PercyPigAddict · 17/03/2018 16:12

It's a weird picture. At first glance it looks like she's crying. But of course the illuminati conspiracy theorists will notice the one eye pose so prevalent in advertising Grin

category12 · 17/03/2018 16:12

That child looks miserable.

diddl · 17/03/2018 16:13

Never known anyone to sit like that!

WTF is "indian" sitting?

demirose87 · 17/03/2018 16:14

Seriously?

CompleteAisling · 17/03/2018 16:16

God, really? Every single image now has to be complete perfection on all levels before it can be seen?

Here's a thought: kids don't take advice on how to sit from adverts in shoe shops. So why give a shite?

Amanduh · 17/03/2018 16:18

Yabvu and weird

Poshjock · 17/03/2018 16:19

I still sit like that and I am over 40. I am hyper mobile though. I could never sit crosslegged as it hurts my lower back something awful.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 17/03/2018 16:21

Still want to know what AHP means. If the OHP is a health professional, I'd prefer him or her to refer to children rather than kids. K'm not sure at all about the pisture, gait or sitting habits of baby goats.

Elementtree · 17/03/2018 16:21

YANBU, I got DH aftershave for Xmas and he's been carrying me around like this ever since.

Apologies for typos, in queue, on phone.

museumum · 17/03/2018 16:22

I’ve just had massive flashbacks to being nagged and nagged for sitting like that as a child. It clearly was never for long (kids that age never sit still for long) and being nagged about it did my head in.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 17/03/2018 16:33

If you were looking for attention you could have just started a thread saying ‘I’m an AHP, I’d like a medal please’. We all need an a bit of a oat on the back from time to time.

When my SIL has their 1st she was a PITA about pretty much everything, DNiece sitting like this was one of those things 🙄. The shouting about it was ridiculous and the attitude if you hadn’t told DNiece not to sit like that in the 30 seconds DNiece had sat down and SIL wasn’t in the room. Unreal. Now they have four DC, she’s got more on her mind than how one of them is sitting for 5 whole minutes. Thank fuck. She’s still a monumental PITA but at least the record gets turned over.

As for the advert, meh, it’s an advert for shoes, not an instructional video on the ideal way to sit.

Babyplaymat · 17/03/2018 16:35

My nearly 6 yr old often sits like this...I didn't realise he shouldn't?!

TSSDNCOP · 17/03/2018 16:37

Elementree 🤣

Sparklingbrook · 17/03/2018 16:39

Bit of overthinking going on there.

But TBH it's an awful picture regardless of the way the child is sat.

Loonoon · 17/03/2018 16:40

I have never heard it is not good to sit like that. My DD has always done it, she is in her twenties now and had no joint or mobility issues. Quite the opposite, she is very fit and active.

Mamaryllis · 17/03/2018 16:45

Another CP parent. I hear ya. It’s never mentioned outside of physio and the sn mafia though. I would have thought that it would be common knowledge in the hyper mobility community tbh - it will be exacerbating exactly that!

AnyFucker · 17/03/2018 16:47

I am not really sure why some folk are getting so angry about an AHP (allied health professional eg. physiotherapist, occupational therapist) commenting on this

Clarks pride themselves on their training of their shop assistants to be aware of common developmental problems in children. This picture belies that ethos.

Yes, it's pretty much a 1st world problem. Nothing to get knickers too much in a knot about. Equally, no real reason to have an extreme reaction to someone idly commenting on it.

YearOfYouRemember · 17/03/2018 16:50

My son had problems and we were forever saying don't sit on your W.

prideofaberdeen · 17/03/2018 16:51

Well not ALL flaming replies, so I dint feel completely crazy! Sorry an ahp is an allied health professional. Another disclaimer in that I only worked in paediatrics very briefly and a very long time ago, so I'll absolutely hold my hands up to not knowing the latest scientific research into children's postures. A quick Google shows it's bad for hyper mobile kids, ok for others. So there you go! I knew I'd get lots of Hmmresponses, I agree it makes me seem very weird. Bit of a window into the kind of person I am (and why my internal dialogue stays as such!).

BluthsFrozenBananas · 17/03/2018 16:59

This thread is a real eye opener. I’ve always sat like that. I had no idea it was called w sitting, or that it was even a thing. I am hyper mobile, from that position I can rotate my lower legs around until the tips of my toes meet (although I don’t do that often).

pigsDOfly · 17/03/2018 16:59

Some strange replies on here OP. Can't see why putting that you're an ahp should wind some posters so much.

pigsDOfly · 17/03/2018 17:00

*wind up, obviously.
