To think my DH has lost the plot?

DH and I were discussing whether to put a load of laundry on tonight. He had wanted to, but I said that if he has enough clean clothes for tomorrow I didn't mind putting a wash on in the morning.

He said that he could wait, but that he didn't really want to wear his red boxers into work. He only likes to wear his red boxers at home.

I asked him why he doesn't want to wear his red boxers to work.

He said: "Because I don't want people to think, 'oooooh get him - who does he think he is to be wearing red pants!'"

After establishing that he wasn't just pulling my leg, I questioned him further. I pointed out that it's quite unlikely anyone will see his pants unless he's bending over a lot - and even if he is all they'll see is a sliver of his red boxers ONLY IF his t-shirt has ridden up. AND why would anyone have any opinions about his red pants at all?

He replied: "I think red pants at work are a really drastic statement. I don't want people to think I think I'm really cool or fancy, or that I have the looks to wear red pants."

My DH works as a software architect and is otherwise quite a sensible man. I asked him if he could find the courage to wear his red pants to work tomorrow. He thought about it for a while, sighed, and said yes.

AIBU to think this is an extremely weird worry to have, and that my DH has lost the plot?

Perhaps his work girlfriend doesn't like red pants....

This is seriously weird otherwise...

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 17/03/2018 17:48

I don't think the pants in SGB's link are aimed at the female gaze...

Billben · 17/03/2018 17:52

or that I have the looks to wear red pants."

Oh, your DH is adorable 😻

Phowarrr that link! www.bangandstrike.com/mens-underwear-c20/sheer-sexy-underwear-c58

Anyone else that life would be much fairer if for every picture or advert with a half naked super fit woman in, there was also one of the blokes above? Would even out society in no time.

Love your dh - get him purple pants!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/03/2018 18:01

I am watching the rugby today. I am wearing blue knickers (because we live in Scotland and I was cheering them on against the Italians) and a red dress - to show my support for England and Wales in the next two matches.

I wear pink knickers on special occasions, or days when I want to cheer myself up.

Cocolepew · 17/03/2018 18:09

He's sweet Grin
When I meet DH he had "pulling pants", they were boxers with Santa all over them Hmm.
Apparently he always got a womsn if he wore them.
He was most surprised that I went out with him and he wasn't even wearing them.
He had them on one night going out with mates, I asked why he had The Pulling Pants ™ on when he had me.
He had decided they had lost their magical powers Confused

GriefDH has completely flummoxed DD, who's learning about prime numbers at the moment. Easter Grin

Reminds me of years ago a friends dh made a pass at me. I tried to joke it off saying I only slept with men who wore black CK boxers. Then he bought some and came into the shop where I worked and told me!! I laughed it off until my birthday when he sent me a dick pic! Blushhad to seriously kick him to the kerb and distanced myself from my friend. Sad

Rowgtfc72 · 17/03/2018 19:35

Have just realised only wearing black knickers for work and coloured on a weekend may be a thing.
Was at the docs on Wed and had to remove my jeans. Dh whispered "please tell me you're not wearing the giraffe pants"

Bratsandtwats · 17/03/2018 19:42

Just asked my DH and he wouldn't wear red pants boxers for work either and thinks I'm bonkers foe even entertaining the idea!

KnitFastDieWarm · 17/03/2018 19:45

Wow, this is a whole new world for me, I’m just happy if I have CLEAN underwear regardless of colour/fanciness level Grin

geisha · 17/03/2018 19:52

OP my dh wore his red band pants to work on Thursday in an act of solidarity and went further and wore his purple band pants on Friday. Your dh is not alone. We may be starting a revolution Grin

When I was about 17, I had a Saturday job in a department store cafe. There was an elderly man who came in every week, early in the morning when it was quiet, dressed 'normally' but always with neon lacy pants on...clearly women's pants. You could see them because he sat sort of sideways and his shirt would ride up...although, looking back, I think he intended for us to see.

Loyaultemelie · 17/03/2018 20:15

Hmph

glueandstick · 17/03/2018 20:31

My husband has a thing about socks for work. I’m yet to work out what the issue is or the rules as I seem to always get it wrong. ‘Chuck me some socks from the sock pile’ (I’m too lazy to find all the matching ones currently’ ‘noo not those. Those aren’t WORK socks’ yet can’t tell me what constitutes a work sock.

Cellardoor23 · 17/03/2018 21:27

Haha this has reminded me of my DP who has a pair of bright neon pink pants. I didn't think anything of it, neither did he. Although I think he likes the colour Grin and still wears them to work I think? I'll need to ask now.

AhCheeses · 17/03/2018 21:54

I just read your post out to DH who just grinned the whole way through... then I looked at the TV, the Doritos advert was on and the guy on it was wearing red pants in the office.
'Red pants!' might be the new catchphrase in our house...
Thanks for the giggles 😁

Homebird8 · 18/03/2018 09:41

DS(15) says that even if your DH’s job entailed wearing just undies and no trousers then no self respecting man would even look at what colour they were. I think it may be man code.

AlpacaPicnic · 18/03/2018 19:24

If red pants are manly enough for rugby players...

Donnecha O'Callaghan ripped his rugger shorts, but didn't want to miss a minute of the game!

To think my DH has lost the plot?
BertrandRussell · 18/03/2018 19:30

My ds has just said, when questioned, that he would only wear his red pants to school on Drama days.

Your dp doesn’t:have a teenage son you don’t know about, does he, Mrs RP? I don’t think I remember him....................
