To think my DH has lost the plot?

DH and I were discussing whether to put a load of laundry on tonight. He had wanted to, but I said that if he has enough clean clothes for tomorrow I didn't mind putting a wash on in the morning.

He said that he could wait, but that he didn't really want to wear his red boxers into work. He only likes to wear his red boxers at home.

I asked him why he doesn't want to wear his red boxers to work.

He said: "Because I don't want people to think, 'oooooh get him - who does he think he is to be wearing red pants!'"

After establishing that he wasn't just pulling my leg, I questioned him further. I pointed out that it's quite unlikely anyone will see his pants unless he's bending over a lot - and even if he is all they'll see is a sliver of his red boxers ONLY IF his t-shirt has ridden up. AND why would anyone have any opinions about his red pants at all?

He replied: "I think red pants at work are a really drastic statement. I don't want people to think I think I'm really cool or fancy, or that I have the looks to wear red pants."

My DH works as a software architect and is otherwise quite a sensible man. I asked him if he could find the courage to wear his red pants to work tomorrow. He thought about it for a while, sighed, and said yes.

AIBU to think this is an extremely weird worry to have, and that my DH has lost the plot?

Grin Grief more adorably bonkers pants action.

I know my DH’s method is “what’s on top of the clean pile”. Lazy, frankly!

MrsRedPants · 14/03/2018 21:33

The choice of pants for tomorrow!

DH is also a software architect. He has assured me there is no reason in the software world to not wear red pants. He assured me he has worn Christmas boxers and socks in the height of Summer without issue.

DH did enquire though as to what the OPs DH had written on his t-shirt (if anything) as apparently that could be very telling...

Is there a whole dress code associated with software architects of which I was unaware?

NoqontroI · 14/03/2018 21:34

That's quite sweet

MrsRedPants · 14/03/2018 21:35

Oh no @GriefLeavesItsMark! I shan't read that one out to him, he'd probably think that system is great!

There’s a huge geeky nerdy t-shirt thing going on. I don’t understand a lot if it - many baffling computer code in-jokes!

Ah he's cute Smile

I get it tho , I wear plain underwear for work , it's not a comfort thing and no one ever sees them . I'd just feel weird wearing my fancy pants 😂

steff13 · 14/03/2018 21:38

This thread made me laugh out loud. I kind of get it; I have red lace underwear and when I wear them to work, I do feel like a bit of a hot potato. Tell your husband he deserves red underwear!

Auspiciouspanda · 14/03/2018 21:38

Throw away all his pants and replace them all with fancy red pants.

Takfujuimoto · 14/03/2018 21:40

The real dilemma now is what socks go with the red pants?

DietCokeGirrrrrl · 14/03/2018 21:41

Cuuuuute

Mrsmadevans · 14/03/2018 21:43

Bless

AthenaAshton · 14/03/2018 21:44

Ohhhh.. Bless him. At least it's not red socks (which, according to Country Life, signify that a man is a Casanova).

tamaraboomdeay · 14/03/2018 21:45

My dh avoids brightly coloured pants.

But that's because on more than one occasion his trousers have split!

So black pants an essential there... Grin

DalekDalekDalek · 14/03/2018 21:46

I was imagining them as being silk ... not sure why ...

Peanutbuttercups21 · 14/03/2018 21:47

He IS Moss from the ITcrowd! Grin

Acopyofacopy · 14/03/2018 21:51

There was me thinking what a hilarious nerd OP’s dh is - and then I realised that I actually have a knicker hierarchy and would only wear my fancy pants to work in an emergency! Blush

SasBel · 14/03/2018 21:52

You can get red boxers —misses point of thread—

PyongyangKipperbang · 14/03/2018 21:52

Disappointed now, I was expecting silk ones!

Anyone else thinking about Adrian Mole and his red sock protest? :o

PyongyangKipperbang · 14/03/2018 21:53

Xpost Dalek!

ginch · 14/03/2018 21:54

DH has different pants for special occasions. I know how special he thought an occasion was when I do a wash.

Aprilmightmemynewname · 14/03/2018 21:56

My dh doesn't wear pants. Every day is #hairyarsecrackday.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 14/03/2018 21:57

He sounds like my DD. Nobody is looking at his pants. 😂

SirGawain · 14/03/2018 21:59

Can't get on with boxers; not enough support!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 14/03/2018 22:00

What's the prime number method? DD's learning about prime numbers, I'm sure she'd find it entertaining! 😂
